Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sequoyah National Golf Club is surrounded by mature oak and fir trees. Owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee, the course is routed through flowered valleys that provide a colorful complement to the surrounding mountain views. It feels peacefully secluded but it is conveniently located less than an hour from Asheville. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the layout. The rolling terrain guarantees a range of different elevation changes but there are also some flat holes. The golf course is a tough test, offering several forced carries over water and severe dogleg fairways. The sloped greens are no easy feat either. Proper club selection and accurate approach shots will be generously rewarded. Sequoyah National also offers an expansive practice area with a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

Fantastic Course

As mentioned in other reviews the driving range is irons only so no warmup with driver prior to tee off. Thankfully I made great contact and put the first tee shot in the fairway. There is a small chipping and putting green near the clubhouse. Also a nice putting green near the first tee.

Fairways were all in excellent condition and were nice to hit off. Greens were in great condition except for ball marks some players decided not to repair. Greens rolled true and had some challenging slopes on them.

The other players I was to be paired with did not show up so I joined a foursome for the first 2 holes. On the 3rd hole we were greeted by the Starter and I was told they do not allow more than 4 players per group so I would have to play by myself even though there were no players in front or behind us. We were easily keeping up the pace of play.

One of the carts in the foursome I was playing with broke down so they let me play through. A few holes later I caught up with a group. After waiting on them a few holes I the joined the threesome. The rest of the round was enjoyable and helpful after joining them since one of the players was a regular.

Front nine was a little more difficult than the back. Pace of play was good with 4 players but would have been a pain playing as a single on a course I had never played before. Ended up shooting 44 on the front with all the problems. Shot 36 on the back with 3 birdies including one of them on the last hole!

Just for reference I was playing the silver tees. Longer hitters may want to move back for more of a challenge. The silver tees were just right for my game. Round took 4 hours 5 minutes. Would play again if I'm in the area.

Very Rude Staff

Enjoyed the course. But, wow, what a rude and surely starter along with maintenance folks who keep barking “ninety degrees” (we were). Pace of play was far too slow.

True mountain golf

Played after 5 straight days of rain,. Course was overall in great shape. Test your carts brakes before you head out! Extreme hills up and down. If I had to point out one thing it would be the greens, some were inconsistent due to numerous old ball marks. Need to move hole locations more. Would 100% play again. Very unique course and even with cart it was taxing as the only flat land anywhere is the tee boxes. Incredible views and elevation change is off the chart

Challenging but fun with great mountain views

It's a challenging course with few blind tee shots. Greens and fairways were in excellent conditions. Staffs were also friendly and professional. Views toward Smoky Mountain ranges were awesome.

Great track

Course was soggy but no one's fault there... guys ahead of us were painfully slow but it being cart part only didn't help. No complaints whatsoever about the course just other golfers. Tip... play behind the group in front of you, not in front of the group behind you! I.e. don't lay on your belly reading putts for triple bogey.

Overall one of the most beautiful courses in the area. Tees, bunkers, greens, and fairways were gorgeous. Hat tip to the staff.

Great Golf Course

Beautiful views of the smokies enhance the experience, but even without that this is a beautiful track. The young man outside that greeted me and brought a cart to my car couldn’t have been any nicer. I was a single that day and was paired up with two of the nicest guys I ever met. Just a really, really great day. The normal price is a little steep but I got a great deal on GolfNow. Highly recommend adding this one to your list.

beautiful surroundings

Very nice course in the Smokey Mountains. Huge elevation changes, and way too difficult to walk. Nice fairways and greens, but we had wet conditions so it was cart path only. All carts have GPS

Excellent course

I really enjoyed the challenge of this course. I am average golfer and did not know the course, so it was a bit unnerving hitting to greens that are elevated and hard to see the layout.

MY big complaint is all of the ads on the GPS system. We spend way too much time trying to get the GPS back to golf so we could hit. It was a major distraction and actually had our group upset. When someone puts that many ads on their system, they must be really desperate and not someone I would do business with.

Incredible layout

Absolutely one of the most beautiful golf courses I've ever played and we loved the tee markers with the stories behind the name of each hole.

The staff were very friendly, when we played it last year the man at the cash register would not give us a small bag of practice balls because we had used Golfnow to book are tee time, this year we got a smile and golf balls. Also, when we drove into the parking lot the guy in charge of the carts and also doing the job as starter drove a cart out to our car. It looks like there must have been a new general manager! Thanks Bob Gornick
