Springfield Golf Club

My husband and I are members of Leroy Springs Golf and our home courses are Springfield Golf Club and Fort Mill Golf Club. We are avid walkers and rarely ride in carts. We both are employed during the week so weekend play is the norm. We booked a round at Springfield yesterday. At arrival, I checked in at the clubhouse. I was greeted by Aaron, the manager, who informed me that Springfield was adopting a new policy that would only allow walking after 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. I told him if Springfield reduced the playing time then we should receive a dues credit. He said "that will never happen". He also said it was "about business" and if we didn't like it we could "go play somewhere else". I asked if I could pay the cart fee and walk the course and he said no. Aaron made it clear that members are unwelcome at Springfield. Members book tee times that could be used for the public who pay market prices. Springfield is willing to take my dues on rainy days and winter months when the public does not play, but they are unwilling to accommodate dues paying members when the weather is nice. This recount of the conversation can be corroborated by the other clubhouse worker, Walker, and the starter who overheard the conversation. We are deeply disappointed in the treatment of club members by Springfield.

They need to set this up better. Love the challenge of tough pin positions Monday-Thursday. But when you set pins difficult on the weekend, the hackers will slow the pace of play to an unbearable standstill. Hope they read this and look into changes. Or educate the super....

The fact that there is not a cart for each player is ridiculous especially since it’s a $100 per round. I’ve played at less expensive courses and they take more care in the players safety with a cart per player!! Not acceptable!!

This is a great course and absolutely worth the price. It a good challenge, with greens shaped in a way where it is hard to attack some of the pin locations. Greens roll faster than most Charlotte area courses right now. A tough course to play without prior knowledge, when in doubt off the tee, don't hit driver. Also, you might want to take a cart. Have been trying out many charlotte area courses over the last few weeks, this ranks among the highest. Will be back!

Course was in great shape. Bunkers are deep and in great shape, I tested several of them. Overall layout of the course is very fun. Not overly difficult but will take some thought to score well here, the greens roll fast and true and are pretty hilly so positioning is very important.

I walked it but the front 9 was hilly and some holes are spread far apart. Take a cart! Had a good round going but ran out of steam and finished double, triple on 17 and 18.

Course is in private country club condition and extremely observant of the required social distancing requirements.

Everything is simply perfect, with the understanding of the guidelines the club is required to operate under, i.e., no rakes in bunkers, etc.

The staff could not be more hospitable and I felt safe & welcomed.

The shade across the fairway and dew still on the grass, we teed off for the first round of the day. The crisp spring air after a rain the night before made the morning absolutely perfect. Our round lived up to the start! Walking is a challenge, for sure, but it also puts you right on the course, and this is one of those courses you want to be on. The greens felt a little slow, but the rain the night before was probably the reason. It was that nice! Great staff are happy to serve you and make your round a joy. My only complaint....the round had to end!

Greens were just a bit sandy and rolled slower than expected. Great shape considering this was the first weekend being open due to Covid -19

This course offers challenging shots or safe play ... it’s your call!

It’s the reason I love playing here , makes you play the ball instead of scattering balls like a covey of quail flying all over the place.

Other than bunkers, course is in fantastic shape. That’s even taking into account the course was hit with heavy storms a few hours before we played.

Springfield is one of the best in the Charlotte area, love getting out to play it. Staff is always great and pro shop and grill have everything you need.

It was a great time playing but the pace of play was terrible. I don’t understand why they would let anybody walk this course at 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon so that slowed play a lot.

Due to wet conditions I have been walking the front 9 on Thursday afternoons recently. I love the course layout and walking adds a whole new dimension to my golfing enjoyment. I play in the Senior Scramble whenever I can and have gotten to meet some really great people when I sign up as a single. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Course had tough winter but is coming back very well. Tough course when damp and roll is limited. Pretty hilly in portions making it tougher to walk than some other courses in the area.

Beautiful clubhouse! It really feels like you are walking into a country club . The practice facility and course are always in great shape. The course is one of the more challenging courses in the area. I would definitely recommend this course for those looking for a good challenge.

My only gripe with this place is they are always running behind on the tee-off times. I've played here 4 times over the past couple years, and I have not once teed off on time.
