refreshing and interesting course design
If you focus on the cart paths (gravel in some areas) and the current state of the greens on the front 9 (alligator texture) you will miss the beauty and challenges of the course. Back nine greens were great and I hope that when Spring rolls around the front 9 greens will be similar. Good winter golf outing. I look forward to returning to this fun course later in the year.
Great course.
Play if you like a very scenic, very hilly course with an amazing design. If you like wide fairways and no penalties then you know what to expect so don't give a bad review because you lost 8 balls and scored poorly. This is an amazing golf course.
Greens need work
Front 9 greens need attention. Back 9 greens were great. Awesome layout.
Showing effects
I live 45 minutes from this course and have played it 8 to 10 times over the years. I am a 12 handicapper who has played more than 30 years.
The course is showing the effects of neglect. Several greens on the front have bald spots, many cart paths are in bad shape and you can look almost anywhere and see signs of low capital investment.
The great views and great course design don't change but you just have to weigh the value against other good courses at this point. It may be a good opportunity for someone with deep pockets to step in and take over.
Fantastic
18 unique golf experiences, I live 100 miles away and played it 6 times this year. It is totally worth the trip to try and try again. Take plenty of balls till you learn your way around
Fun Course Layout
Most of the greens were pretty rough…Short course, but accuracy is key! I definitely want to play again when the course is in better shape.
A mountain course in the forrest
Amazing course. 18 unique holes, that you will never forget. Just wish it was not 90 minutes away or I would have played it more than the 5 times I did this year
Unique Layout
Very beautiful course with a very unique layout, conditions were very good for the fall. Some greens have false fronts or multi levels. Hitting to the wrong spot of the green can result in a difficult recovery.
Want to play in the summer to see it in full green.
Hard times for a Mike Strantz design
I have played this course several times over a 7 year period. Unfortunately you never know what shape it will be in !?!?
May 2020 it was in great shape, in Nov 2021 the front 9 greens were unplayable and several tee boxes are nothing but sand. I wish I could blame the late season but it is clear the damage has been around for a while.
Amazing design if someone could figure out how to maintain it consistently.
Tot Hill
The course is usually a beautiful course to play as I have played it several times. The greens were in terrible condition with sand, no grass, just overall bad shape. The fairways were in very good condition
Overpriced for the conditions
I played 11/7/2021 and the conditions were pretty bad. Many of the greens on the front nine were under repair but the cost was $64/18 holes. This seemed way overpriced for the conditions of the course. Also, the 14th hole had an illegal pin position. The ball needs to be able to come to rest next to the hole but this hole was more like putt putt. I chipped about 5 ft past the hole (from right side) and my ball came straight backwards past the pin and off the green. I later tried to position a ball next to the cup and the ball would not come to rest, it would immediately go off the green. This is not acceptable for any course!!! Either they need to fix the green or position it in a better area.
Sooo disappointed
Heard how great this course was for years. Finally got to play it back in the spring and loved it. (That's the only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 right now.) Fast forward to November... Wow, how fast it has fallen to just another hacker's course. They completely lost their greens (mainly on the front) over the last few months. Some were unputtable. Our group decided that it was an automatic 2-putt if the first put didn't get lucky and fall in. Some tee boxes were not great either, but fairways were still decent. I really hope I find out things are back to normal there next year, but it definitely isn't worth anywhere near an hour's drive as of right now even at discounted rates.
Great layout!!
Tot Hill Farm has a great layout in a beautiful setting! Will definitely play here again!!
Needs some help.
The fairways were the best I've seen them, the traps needed attention, several greens were rough. The pin placement on no. 12 was unplayable. There are like maybe 2 ball washers and the cart paths need help. If they don't pay attention to some of the details and get the greens in shape they will never sell the place or stay in business. The course can only ride so long on it's past reputation and that is nearing an end. I love the place and hope they can pull it out.
Another Fun Round
Introduced the course to two new playing companions. They thought the course was beautiful but challenging. They're not in a real hurry to play it again. Played from the yellow tees for the first time which made the round more enjoyable for me. I have always played the whites on previous rounds. Some of the pin positions were unfair given the speed of the greens. Several greens were in bad shape with large bare spots. Didn't detract from the overall experience as far as I was concerned.
Tough greens
Several of the greens were not in good shape, and they were fast enough that if you were on the wrong side of the hole, you were dead. I still like the challenge even if the greens cost me 5-10 strokes. Not your typical round of golf.
