About
Winding Creek Golf Club in Thomasville is an 18-hole municipal course that is one of the most affordable rounds in the area. It is a regulation-length layout that measures 6,367 yards from the tips. The design is a true target-golf test that is player friendly enough for beginners but will also challenge more advanced players. The golf course is perched atop one of the highest points in Davidson County. From elevated tees and greens you can enjoy dramatic views as well as some intimidating shots. It's a golf course that will most likely have you using every club in your bag. Though there is plenty of variety, the course isn't too formidable for high handicappers. In addition to the golf course, Winding Creek also has a putting green and driving range that you can use for warming up.

Golfer Reviews
Value
The best value anywhere !!
Greens a little slow but in very good shape. The rest of the course also in very good shape. Super fun layout with a few shot making holes and a few grip it and rip it holes.
But for the price, you absolutely can not find a better course.
Great Value
Best bang for your buck golf course anywhere !!
I’ve played it 20 + times and it never disappoints.
Some grip it and rip it holes, some target holes.
Course is always in great shape. The greens are in very good shape, but always very slow. You need to adjust to the slow greens. Take your time and use the practice green before your round.
Municipal Golf at its Finest
Overview
Traveling to the Winston-Salem area regularly for work, I make a point to play local public courses, but Winding Creek is the track I keep returning to. As an avid golfer who has played worldwide, I value thoughtful design, smart maintenance where it impacts playability, and an accessible atmosphere over inflated price tags. Winding Creek delivers on all three, serving as municipal golf at its finest.
Course Design & Architecture
The course sits on rolling terrain that uses the land's natural contours for an engaging routing—blending wide-open holes with dense, tree-lined corridors that require strategic shot-making without feeling overly punitive. Beautifully framed approach shots lead to smooth, subtle greens where the macro-topography creates clever, deceptive breaks.
Conditioning That Matters
Winding Creek skips high-priced cosmetic perfection to focus its maintenance budget squarely on fundamental playability. The greens are healthy, smooth, and roll at a clean, consistent speed. Tee boxes are mostly level with short, clean turf, and the bunkers offer consistent depth and sand quality from hole to hole.
Surprisingly Complete Practice Setup
While a bit rough around the edges compared to high-end facilities, having a practice setup this complete at an economy-priced municipal course is a massive bonus. It features a full-size driving range that is lit for evening practice, a large multi-tiered putting green with realistic slopes, and a dedicated short-game area complete with a chipping green, practice bunker, and fairway-length lies.
Welcoming Atmosphere
The course strikes a rare balance where golfers of all skill levels feel at home. Low handicappers can go through their pre-shot routines without feeling rushed, while beginners, juniors, and higher handicappers can relax and learn the game. On-course harmony is the norm here.
The Verdict
Winding Creek offers an outstanding layout and a remarkably complete experience at a phenomenal price point. The town of Thomasville, NC has created a model municipal facility that keeps high-quality golf accessible to everyone.
Great Course
Probably the best bang for your buck course anywhere. It’s a typical muni course in that people just don’t fix ball marks on the greens and the greens are pretty slow. But definitely NOT typical muni course when it comes to conditions. The greens and fairways are in great shape. The layout is super fun too. Some holes you can grip it and rip it and some holes take a little more thought and planning.
But overall it’s a great course.
Course was fine....
One of the few times when I've played there where we didn't have to wait on any holes. Of course, it was 97 degrees, so that kept people away. Course was in good shape, greens were a little slow - but they have to let them grow because of the drought conditions here in NC. Good course to play, especially for the price.
Course in really good shape. We got through 14 holes in the afternoon before thunderstorms rolled in. Friendly staff there as well.
Great staff
Course was challenging. Well
Kept. Staff was great.
Best Value Course around Winston
Fantastic price for a great course. Fun and forgiving with some interesting approach shots. Lots of elevation change to keep things fun. The only issue can be it's popularity which may make for a slow round.
Good value
Surprisingly challenging course. Very hilly, several blind shots, greens in very nice shape considering the lack of rain over the last few months. Due to that lack of rain, the fairway grass was dormant, thus many perfect shots simply rolled downhill and off the fairway.
Great course for a budget friendly Muni. A little short but still challenging layout. No complaints, will play again.
