We put Asheboro back into our "rotation" during the late fall/winter. Vast improvements over the last several months. Kudos to them! You can tell by the number of cars in the parking lot now. Course was in very good shape, although we only got to play 9 holes due to thunderstorms on that day. Course is really coming along.
Asheboro CC Surprise
I'm originally from Asheboro but haven't played Asheboro CC since high school. It was always a private course (I had a friend who was a member). I had heard that the course had been in decline for several years, confirmed by the other guys we were paired with. The course was in great shape! Greens rolled true, fairways were clean, bunkers had sand! Rough was a little shaggy in places, but it's rough. The pace of play bogged down a bit on the back nine, but not too bad. Staff was extremely friendly, and we met the owner. What still needs improvement: Carts are on the older side (gas) and have no in-cart screens. Golf shop is bare minimal, small fridge for sodas, etc...hot dogs on a spinner, couple of racks of shirts/hats/etc. Not much for snacks. No driving range or warm-up area except for a small putting green.
Course is in great shape despite the lack of rain. You can tell they are really trying to “spruce” up the course. We play there very often and can tell the changes are taking shape.
Not worth more than $30
Granted I know there hasn’t been much rain, but the fairways are terrible, it looks like it’s just close mown crabgrass. Some bunkers were completely trashed and unplayable, especially 16 it looked like a pond that had dried up. The greens rolled good but were harder than concrete. I hit the ball very high and I wasn’t leaving a ball mark and my wedges were jumping forward 3-4 feet (I can usually spin it back about 5 ft give or take) again, it’s been dry so I’ll give a slight pass, but it was very difficult to hold any greens with any kind of half shot. Lastly is the course layout. Holy crap it’s easy to get turned around. It took me 5 minutes to find hole 4, things are not marked very well. I also hit into the wrong green once today because it just looked like the hole set up perfect to go to that green. It could have just been me today, but I was very unimpressed. For a $30 hot deal it’s not bad, but I wouldn’t pay more than that, and for the current conditions, I may not be back unless I hear it gets better
Pros: The course is in good shape. Course knowledge is key to score low. Greens are running pure and true.
Cons: no driving range. Small putting green(no chipping). Clubhouse is small. No restaurant (19th hole).
Worth of money i paid
Less than $40 on weekends,
Yes sir it worth what i paid.
Back again? No sir.
Course is really improving. Greens are excellent and they have started "cutting away" some of the brush/weeds, etc. Looking very good. New pro there is very customer friendly. Keep it up, guys! Just a little slow, as Wednesday was first really warm day and lots of tee times.
Coming back
We used to play this course all the time years ago but it got in less than desirable condition.I always loved the layout. I am glad to say it has improved a lot over the last few months. The greens are in excellent condition. They run true, fairly fast without being unreasonable. Of course the fairways are brown this time of year like everywhere else. I would highly recommend giving them a try. I am so glad to be able to play it again.
It’s back
For the price and conditions it worth it!! Greens in good shape. Rough was rough but can’t beat it for the price
Nice to have this course back.! Greens and fairways are in good shape. Rough needs some work as we hunted for balls on many holes that ended up in rough. But course is in good shape and new pro is very friendly.
New greens are very nice
Played there today for the reopening of the course with the new Bermuda greens and they were awesome. It's my first time there and I will definitely be back. Everyone at the course was nice too. It's a great layout with many scenic views. There's also a nice breeze around the lake holes. A nice challenge but plenty fair with the plush fairways
