Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club is one of the oldest courses in the Tampa Bay area. In fact, it's the only 18-hole golf course in Florida that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's the centerpiece of the Temple Terrace community and it's much loved by locals. At 6,443 yards from the back tees, the golf course is short by modern standards but what it lacks in length it makes up for in other challenges. The layout has a traditional design with small greens and tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. Several strategically positioned bunkers also come into play along the greens. There are some tight spots and a fair amount of tricky holes, but overall Temple Terrace is player friendly enough for all skill levels.

Horrible pace of play
As the title says, it was a horrible pace. I was on the tee at my tee time but a single stepped up with the tee time after me and said the pro told him to go off whenever he wanted to. He was a beater too, never really trying to play through the VERY deliberate 2some (horrible man-woman duo). I gave up after 6 holes and just drove in. No way I would’ve finished 18 holes before dark, even with my 2:30 tee time.
Very poor pace of play
The weather was perfect today and there was a deal on golfnow to play here, and it's pretty close to my house so I took the deal. I wasn't paired with anyone and there was a single ahead of me. I thought of joining him but he was a pretty back player and I was playing the back tees. I waited on every shot for 6 holes. The par 5s were especially painful as the group that was 2 tee times ahead of me (a really, really bad female and a male who wasn't much better) wouldn't let the single in front of me through, but why would they? He hit multiple balls every shot and even though his tee shots barely went 200 yards, on the par 5s, he (very serious) waited for the group to clear the green before he hit his second shot, usually to around the 150-ish mark. After 6 holes I just drove in. I noticed that there was a 4some in front of the male/female group (a full hole clear) and they were all in the trees on both sides of the fairway. There was another 3some in front of them, but they were over 1 1/2 holes clear of them. My tee time was at 2:30 and the single asked to go ahead of me (said the pro shop told him he could). There is no way I would've finished 18 holes before dark at the rate everyone was playing.
Classic golf course
This place was a blast. Understanding the course is almost 100 years old will make its layout make sense. The greens were just thatched and still rolled true. A gem in the city.
Picturesque
Inviting fairways lined by massive oaks. Some greens have been sanded. Always fun and challenging.
Painfully Average
My first impression upon driving into this course was that I expected more. Door being a country club that offer a member for a day rate, this place is really nothing Special. I felt as though the conditions were average to slightly above average compared to the rest of the courses in the area. Tee boxes were nice, The Greens rolled okay (although I felt a little inconsistent from hole to hole), But the fairways were very average with some bare spots here and there. The layout was okay but really nothing to write home about. I did enjoy my round but can’t say I am dying to go back considering the relatively steep price. Also, I was a little off put by the fact that cash is not accepted at the pro shop.
Fun round but a bit expensive
I live close to Temple Terrace so it's convenient. However, I don't play here often because of what they charge and the condition of the course. As another reviewer mentioned, there is crab grass all over the fairways and the greens are just okay. For close to fifty bucks, I expect much more and usually get much more from other courses.
Not worth it
Greens not consistent
Fairways have crab grass growing everywhere
Feel like they have don’t have the money to take care of the course,
At $54 a round it’s not worth it.
Nice course but over priced.
Rated high, so was excited to play this 1922 built course. Staff friendly. Mostly members playing. Very sandy. The tee’s were average at best. Course layout, was nice. Fairways were very sandy. Average condition. Greens, best part of course conditions. Fast and rolled true. Disappointed, drove 45m and was disappointed. Ok course, overpriced in my opinion.
Too long for average player
Liked the course, though muddy conditions and length of holes led to discouraging results. Par 3s and 4s very challenging for the average player.
Decent value for the money
Greens we’re in great shape. Staff was super helpful and welcoming.
Rough was patchy and inconsistent. Fairways were also patchy and very thin, almost seems like they haven’t overseeded in some time.
Fun old Florida style course nonetheless.
Decent value for the money.
Great Course
Played this course for the first time and it definitely won’t be my last. Course in great condition as were the greens. Shorter course but excellent layout.
Sand
Greens rolled true and good speed. Nice experience except that bunkers have NO sand. That cost everyone in our group at least a few shots each.
Very nice track
I play there a few times, it is nice, the greens are always good, fairways are also good.
They do not have a driving range, but they do have net you can hit too, enough to warm up, they do have a putting green.
The greens are raised most of then which makes it more fun .
Hope it helps
Beautiful course
Beautiful course. Excellent pace of play. Friendly atmosphere. Pace of play well managed.
A Hidden Gem but no practice range.
This course is a good value ($35 on a monday). The greens roll true and are firmer than I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise! The course overall is in decent shape in terms of bunkers and fairways. My only complaint is the lack of a driving range. Having to tee off without getting any warmup with a full swing is a bit unnerving, took me a few holes to get into a rhythm. Otherwise it’s a pretty easy track, not much defense except for a some green side bunkers and water on one very short par 5. The course is very short, 6300 from the tips.
A rare find
This course is a rare find played with my son and two friends and we were amazed at this beautiful golf corse. Not very long but very narrow. Had some nice challenging holes.
It’s set in a very nice historic area of Tampa. If you get a chance to play this course do it you will not regret it.
