Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Always Enjoyable
I have played this course a number of times. It is always in excellent shape. They just aerated in a number of area's, but overall this course is maintained like a resort course. This was the first time my friend played this course and he loved it. I was really not pleased with the customer service this visit. Not close to what it used to be. Hoping they were just having a bad day. We'll see next time
Enjoyed the course
Played for the first time and really enjoyed the course. Greens were in very good shape and were most of the fairways. Course is challenging as there are many elevation changes. Price was very fair in comparison to other local courses.
nice track from a picky guy!!
yes, I am a bit of a public course snob, meaning when i pay $50 or $60 , i expect a good value. I am an 11 handicap and play all throughout the mid-ATL. Deerfield delivers. A very traditional layout, tree lined, tight a fair amount, a number blind shots which is challenging, not knowing the course. The greens were fantastic. Approach shots held, rolled out very nicely, quick. Not lightening but quick - fun, challenging to be sure.
i played from the tips, which is short at 6350 but plenty of challenge still
Really only one course criticism - the sand traps were very inconsistent. Some were fluffy, full of sand, others very hard, firm. the firmness killed me on 2 holes, i was frustrated at that, almost hard pan sand.
Excellent Course; Difficult Challenge
My son (25) and I (60), both high handicappers, played Deerfield on a beautiful summer morning. Course was in great shape (except for one tee box), played at a fast pace, and was quite attractive. Course is EXTREMELY HILLY--don't try to walk unless you're in "iron man" competitions. Most holes are "blind" doglegs. The hills make the par fours effectively nearly fives (we played from the whites). It/s a challenging course, but we feel it was worth it--we had a great time. We had lunch in their pub, and it was excellent as well. Price was very affordable thru GolfNow.com.
Pace of play
Waiting on every hole and shot overshadows the condition and setup of this course. When 3 somes hold up 4 somes there's an issue. Overall a nice course to play.
Deerfield
Wonderful facilities and friendly staff. Went there first time for a wedding ( they did an awesome job) so I wanted to come back and play the course. Looks were unfortunately deceiving. The design of the course is somewhat quirky. The biggest disappointment by far, was the greens. The greens should be in perfect shape this time of year instead they looked like they never recovered from when they were aerated
Very happy Father's Day!
Staff greeted us with a smile and pleasant conversation. Golf shop quickly got us signed and ready for our round. Because of it being Father's Day, I am guessing it was more crowded than usual. Pace of play was still acceptable. Course was in nice condition, and a challenge. Had a wonderful round and experience. A return visit is in my future.
Up and down
The course has a lot of elevation changes and you will end up with a lot of side hill, uphill or downhill lies. Greens are receptive and roll at a decent pace. There can be some very challenging chip shots due to the undulation, firmness and speed of the greens. Some holes tended to slope off the back but that is an adjustment you can make for future rounds. The sand in the greenside bunkers makes shots very playable. I wish more courses uses the same type of sand.
Nice course.
It's always fun and challenging to play here. Shot placement is key if you want to score low at this course. The only downside was all of the geese droppings on a few holes - some even on the greens.
Great Shape
Deerfield was in excellent shape and the pace was enjoyable.
Ehh
If you like blind shots allllll day and uneven lies in the fairways, this place is for you!!! Greens roll fast and true but I won't be back.
Tough challenge.
If you like flat lies, don't play Deerfield; but if you want to play a well manicured course with true rolling greens then this is your course. Bring your A game.
Cool Layout and Fun
Played this course many years ago and it is still a blast. Layout is challenging but fun and I would definitely be back. Course was in great shape and feels like a CC atmosphere with the cost. You should check it out!
Loved this course
Played a 3 pm round on a Tuesday, no waiting at the tee box to hit, private club amenities at public course prices
Great layout, good shape
For early Spring the course is in great shape, the the recently aerated greens were a bit fuzzy and bumpy, yet fast. Stay below the holes because downhill chips and puts can get away fast!
A fun day for our foursome
We had a great time . A lot of hills.
Deerfield Spingtine 2016
Weekend round and surprisingly a great pace. Greens were recently punch and top dressed so the roll was average but overall the course was in good shape. Oh yeah, Danielle is the best cart girl in North America.
great course
very nice course, always in great condition. very friendly staff and its always a pleasure to play here
Great January day at Deerfield!
We had a quite enjoyable round as the course was in terrific shape for January and because it was a little chilly there weren't too many golfer out so pace of play was quick. Wish the pub would have been open for a bite to eat, but it's understandable with the amount of business they were expecting. Will be back soon with the great prices from Golfnow! Course is right around the corner from me , so very convenient.
