Osprey/Heron at Okeeheelee Golf Course

About
With a name meaning 'quiet waters' in the Seminole language, Okeeheelee Golf Course is situated amidst lush, rolling hills that overlook the sparkling waters of Clear Lake. There are 27 championship holes that are divided into three nines and can be played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Osprey, Heron, and Eagle nines are named after the various wildlife that can be seen throughout. Each golf course offers a different set of challenges and scenery. Okeeheelee's Osprey/Heron Course features a variety of elevation changes. There are scenic views from the elevated greens but don't become too distracted since there are many elements to contend with including towering trees, strategically placed bunkers, and deep rough lining the fairways. There are also plenty of water hazards coming into play.

Hot and Slow
From the start, stacking group every 7 minutes doesn't help when your group is sitting on the tee waiting for the four groups in front to even clear the hole, while already having the next group show up and wait for 10 minutes so we could tee off. It seemed from the start we ended up waiting on every hole for between 5-10 minutes, never did see a players assistant anywhere on the course to help keep the pace of play moving. Also in over a year playing on this course it always seems one of the 9-hole courses is always shut down, versus alternating tee times between the primary 2 - 9-hole starting tracks (Eagle/Osprey) finishing on Huron. In 5 years, I've have only played Eagle one time. At this rate I won't be back to play again until the player time gap is fixed or extended to 10-12 minutes between groups. My recommendation would be to have the players assistant on the first tee to coordinate with the starter to give groups teeing off at least a 5-7 head start before the next group even hits the tee, or at least have another assistant in the area between the 1-3 holes to track and better manage the pace of play to prevent group stacking of 4-5 groups on Par4-5 holes. No computer algorithm is going to plan for that.
Nice golf course
Tees, fairways are in very good condition. The greens are good. It’s time for some aeration they were very hard. Enjoyed playing the course.
Great Conditions
The course is finally back to it’s old quality which is a good thing. Tee boxes were a little narrow on certain holes but overall the fairways and greens in excellent condition. The starter even put us on another 9 at the turn than which we were supposed to go to just to speed things up since we were a twosome. That was very cool of her since we finished the round in just over 3 hours but if we stayed on the back nine we were supposed to it would have been 4 hours easily.
Great course
Always fun at Okeeheelee. Usually I am single and never had a problem with who I was paired with even though I'm a beginner. Officially my "home" course.
beatiful course but the green are slow in down slope and the ball stopped often
it explains the average rating for the course but you can
improve this,I'am sure
Nice track, great shape, greens are hard and hard to score on
First time playing here and played the Blues. Came out the gate strong with back back birdies, then I ran into the elevated sculptured greens and struggled, had 4 doubles on the day and hit the green every time. The greens are very hard, do not hold well and roll off the green into a deep waste area, where the grass is very tight and hear to hit a flop. But overall the course is a great track, wonderful condition, just need to know the layout and I was a first time player so it go a bit frustrating at times. Still shot 83 and had a good day, playing as a single with 3 other singles.
Very friendly and accommodating staff.Great value for such a nice golf course
Nice Find
Was a single and hooked up with three players and got out earlier than scheduled…the greens were in great shape…course layout was challenging….water and doglegs on almost every hole so choose your clubs wisely….great practice facilities…driving range, putting greens and sand bunkers to work on your game before and after your round. Will play again now that I know what they offer.
Very nice, great value
Course was in great shape, staff very friendly. Pace of place was 4.5, so a little slow but not terrible.
Golf now hot deal was the way to go.
Great course but a little pricey
Everything was very good...just a little pricey for out of state players
Challenging, but fun
Lots of well placed hazards and elevation changes to give the course a good degree of difficulty. With that, sadly, comes a slower pace of play for newer golfers. I am a beginner myself and had a challenging 18 but spent most of the time waiting for the groups ahead of me to play. Maybe out of season I will give it another try, still had a blast tho
