Almost no maintenance at this course
The staff seemed to be friendly and the layout seemed decent. However, everything else was lacking. Absolutely no maintenance of the course. The fairways had almost no drainage so were a risk to walk. The greens were the worst condition I have played at in the area (I golf usually many course and every weekend). No drainage on the greens and looked like players didn't fix any debits.
There was no official on the course or any cart lady. People said course is better I summer when there is no rain.
It was my first time at the course but I won't take another risk and won't be back.
Course was pretty beat up especially the greens. Still nice afternoon at Tilden.
Get a cart unless you want a workout
5.5 miles and 45 floors later... beautiful and tranquil course setting with stunning views on the drive up no matter what way you come. A lot of opportunities to lose balls here and the putting surfaces were not consistent hole to hole and were in needing a rolling and tighter mowing. Nice patio and good beer selection. Overall a good place to play if you can get a deal!
Hacker
Every hole has its challenge, which is why i went back for a second try at it. The course was dryer this time, and made it for easier play. I would recommend this course, to anyone who wants a challenge. Not a beginning course.,
The course was very Hilly And sloppy with mud everywhere
The course was very sloppy with mud and the greens were full of holes and Divet’s. There was also fallen limbs and timber all around. Very hilly
Fun and challenging
Great layout. Leisurely pace of play. Course is in good condition despite uptick in golf popularity due to COVID. Greens have seen LOTS of play. We’ll be back.
Course is in bad shape.
I've played Tilden hundreds of times. This was probably the worst condition the course has ever been in IMO. Dead trees all over the place (clearly clearing out dead ones?). Barely any grass on fairways. VERY DRY and HARD. Greens, spongy and bumpy. So it's hard to really try. At best good for a practice non-scoring round. I don't expect it to be like during the summer. But right now, it's not worth much more than what I paid.
Lots of positives!
I like Tilden, it is a very challenging course! Greens were on the slower side this day but still had a great time!
Beautiful day!
Played in 4 fours which is great for a three day weekend. Course was in decent shape but had drainage issues throughout, and there’s been very little rain recently. Typical public course where nobody fixes their ballmarks on the greens. Felt like you were putting on a minefield. But all in all, a good day on the links.
Can be this bad really
Too wet. 12:49 sunshine and the place is a big bog. I’m on the course as we speak. Greens so wet too. Other courses in the area better. Need rain gear on a sunny day had not rained in many days and when it did there was little. We are in a drought and if they are watering this course Shame on them.
Horrible golf conditions right now
Rolly Polly Affair
Tilden is a study in extremes. Almost every hole is a steep uphill or steep downhill. Not terribly long but requires some precision to keep out of the trees and lined up for the green. Played during a light mist and the course was extremely muddy so better to wait for spring or at least not after a rain. Did I mention muddy? Interesting layout and depending on the tee can be a test for anyone.
If it rained within a week of playing just avoid it
This course is in a great location with some pretty cool scenic views. However the bad seemed to outweigh the good.
First off only walk this course if you are in really good shape. I got a cart half way through which ended up dying on me 3 holes later. There are some really steep hills that will gas the average person. The layout is ok with some challenging holes and decent greens. However like many muni courses the fairways can get really barren.
My biggest issue was the course was a swamp and should not have been played on. During the winter it gets very little sun and turns into slush. Overall I ended up quitting after 13 holes due to my cart dying and the fairways being mostly unplayable in my opinion. To add insult to quite literal injury I slipped in the mud on the fairway and hurt my knee.
You can get some really cheap deals so if you want to play golf for cheap it can be a good option but would definitely suggest playing in good weather if you do.
Dark, Wet and Narrow
There aren’t many redeeming qualities of this cold, damp and cavernous golf course. Set back below Grizzly peak above Berkeley, the course doesn’t get much sun and it felt like we were playing in the shade the entire round. Of course this can be beneficial, except that the fairways were literally mud and as many as 4 tee boxes that I recall had driving range mats to hit from because there was only wet dirt where the grass should have been. The course got rain 4 days ago by the time we played but because it gets so little sun, tee boxes, fairways and greens were still soaked and balls were plugging on the green aprons although the greens were okay. Course layout is also an issue as many holes are quite narrow requiring subtle but necessary awkward draws or slight fades off the tee. Elevation change is also an issue as there’s quite a bit of artificial distance on this course hitting at greens way up or down hill. Pace of play was problematic as it took us more than full 5 hours to play the round.
late tee times
did not get to play more than 9holes due to the time of year. (it gets dark around 4:00 PM. My tee-off was around 2:00 PM
