Slowww but decent shape
Course is in good condition but suuper backed up. Drivable par 4 followed by long par 3 followed by reachable par 5 on the front made for excruciatingly slow round. Group of slow college kids backed up the course by letting another slow group in front play through, no marshals to be seen. Layout also is super weird. Lots of blind shots, course is tight, several forced carries, not great for beginners yet only beginners come play here! Would not return.
Great course, but in the pro shop ....
Tilden Park is definitely one of the biggest challenges in the Bay Area and it did not disappoint. It made you feel good when you did something good on the course. And the walk was quite an endurance. However, I used my driver's license to rent a pull cart and after the round, the people in the pro shop lost my license. It took them 30 minutes to find it so not a good finish to the day. But I survived the course and that's something good to say.
In Very Good Shape But...
The starter announcement on thePA messed-up my start time. I ended up one group behind where I was supposed to be. Because I was a single they asked me to let a four-some ahead of me. The staff tried to penalize me by letting other people go because I was a single?!?!?
Who is in minding the store?
I guess it is the COVID Wild West. Young high school and college kids running the place. Tee time was 15 minutes behind schedule. Group ahead was organizing a 5th friend to join them on the 1st tee until I stepped in to object. A 5:10 tee time should of easily been enough to complete 9 holes before it got dark. Finished 6 holes with sunlight and a 7th too dark to be safe. Will not return to a course I grew-up on, but hadn’t played in awhile.
A difficult course that needs better arrangement
Tilden Park is a very challenging course with many hills and sloping greens.
The layout has a number of holes too close to each other.
The worst thing was pace of play was very slow.
Tilden
The weather was extremely beautiful. The course was in fairly good shape There was some drainage issues as there was some very damp areas on the course. There was a shortage of carts we had to wait quite a long time for a cart. Looks like they needed a few more workers.. Other than that it was a great time out
Always a Tough Test
Only 9! Pars, no birdies and four doubles. I thought I’d play well by couldn’t really get off the tee. Play Tilden when you think you have you’re game together.....walk off and realize you’re an amateur!!!
Fun course
The course was in great shape. Fairways well watered and manicured. Greens held approach well. Fairly wet in the early rounds though. Will play here again.
Play it only if only choice
Be ready to double bogey the first 2 holes... I am an 8 HC and that is typically what I score... they made two holes where there shouldn’t be any.... there’s not a single spot on the fairway that will produce a fair lay. After that start, be ready for either muddy or super hard ground through 90% of the course. Greens are slow and it seems like repairing a ball mark is a lethal sin (there are way too many ball marks), greens are slow, bumpy, muddy and give you this feeling you’re playing on play-do. It is the closest course to the city and reasonably priced so expect all the hackers of the Bay Area to flood the place after 9:00am. If you are a serious golfer and a true lover of the game look somewhere else for a good experience.
