good hilly course
Greens had been punched recently and let to grow out, so were very slow but held line ok. Neat course, challenging and very hilly,no houses around and out in the wilderness, kind of cool.
My favorite public course
Tilden has been and continues to be my favorite course in the East Bay area. The beauty is incredible...I actually saw a deer grazing just below the 14th tee.
FIVESOMES??????
Yesterday we played at this beautiful golf course. The first 8 holes were wonderful.
On the 9th hole we finally caught up with the group in front of us and it took THREE HOURS to finish our round.
The group in front of us told us there was a FIVESOME in front of them that was holding things up.
On hole 11 it got really bad. They had 2 holes open in front of them and made no effort to let anyone play thru or speed up their play. At one point the group in front of us hit into them and they started yelling at each other. . At one time there were 3 groups on a tee box. YOU ARE LUCKY YOU DIDN'T HAVE A BRAWL OUT THERE
I finally called the pro shop and was told "American Golf now allows fivesomes. We are short handed today and have no Marshall. Sorry. There is nothing we can do."
At the end of the round I went to the Pro shop to complain. There were 2 young men there. The same ones who checked me in. They apologized but again repeated that they were short handed and there was nothing they could do. The Assistant Manager WAS TAKING INVENTORY!!!!
Couldn't one of them jumped in a cart and gone out there??? The Assistant Manager couldn't take 15 minutes out from TAKING INVENTORY???
In this day and age of slow play fivesomes SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED.
By making one group happy you made alt least 4 groups VERY UNHAPPY. And who knows how many behind them.
Unfortunately, I will not play this beautiful course again until I hear that you have removed this ridiculous rule of allowing fivesomes. And after talking in the parking lot with the group in front of us and the group behind us, they will not be coming back either.
good conditions, friendly staff
the course was in good overall conditions, but a bit soft and wet for some reason. lots of watering I guess. The 2 ladies in the pro shop were very nice, as were the restaurant personnel.
Interesting layout.
Having played at Lake Chabot all my life, gave Tilden a try. It's not as up and down as Lake Chabot and the drainage is a lot better (greens roll really fast).
Layout was interesting as multiple holes bisect each other. Length of the holes were pretty long compared to other Bay Area courses.
Weather was hot and humid the day I played. Pace on front 9 was fast, but got really slow on the back.
Difficult lies, slow-sloped greens, mature trees, few flat landing areas
Always challenging, fun to play, and in better condition than in years. Still some fairways and greens could use more attention.
Beautiful Course at a Great Price
A must play in the bay area! The elevation changes are amazing. Well maintained and great greens.
Perfect for intermediate
I have played Tilden park numerous times now and have enjoyed it every time.
It can get fogged out in the early mornings, but the greens are above par and well kept.
The course layout is challenging with blind shots and elevated tee's.
I would recommend Tilden Park to amateurs and intermediate alike.
Classical course
It is nice to play at an "old" course where lots of trees with right yardage for older folks to enjoy the game.
Slow start on the back
Pace was slower than last week, plus had to start on back 9. Otherwise, love the course!
Nice course to test your game.
Nice quiet, challenging golf course. Elevation changes are awesome.
One of the best public courses in the East Bay
I've been playing Tilden for 10+ years and always been one of my favorites. It was a very soggy course back in the day with drainage issues, but within the past 3-5 years they have updated the drainage and it is probably one of the best, if not the best, public course in the East Bay. Always a tough opening hole, as I've been told my many people, and they've said it is the toughest #1 hole in the Bay Area! This is a course that is probably best to leave the driver in the bag for a majority of the holes, although some of those holes (#3 especially) where you really want to bomb a drive but laying up is the best bet.
Amazing 3 tier driving range, beautiful scenery on every hole, and the East Bay sunshine make this a top pick anytime!
this course is not long but some fairways are quite narrow, hilly and lots of trees
I've always enjoy playing tilden park, its in great shape most of the time. The greens are well maintained. It can be foggy in the early mornings. Its also protected from the wind.
long wait every hole. was hit with goflball by group behind us
course is in good condition. greens are great. beautiful course with trees, but the layout is horrid. I was hit by a golf ball in the chest. I must have heard the word fore about 50 times. Parallel fairways. Tee boxes right next to greens. Balls whiz over your golf cart as you park at the green. My 2nd time playing here. I'll never play here again and it should be taken off golfnow. My teetime was 248 pm. I quit the course after hole 10 at 6:15.
greens have really improved.
The work they've put in the last two seasons on the greens have really made a difference. It was a really foggy morning but we enjoyed it none the less.
Very nice setting in the hills.
The course was overbooked due to a shotgun tournament blended into regular play. If they are going to charge full price a marshal should be onsite to monitor speed of play. We waited at tees for as many as three groups to play. I watched several players hit 2 and 3 shots from a tee until they got one they liked. There were several twosomes and a couple of fivesomes which added to slow play. Overall it was a very frustrating expeience as we quit after four and one half hours at the 13th. hole!
Fast play ... slow greens
We played early on a foggy morning and the greens were painfully slow, however the good pace of play by all the locals made the
round fly by. The amount of play the course gets is evident in certain spots, and overall the maintenance of the course was so so. It was fun to play a tight course with some smaller greens.
Great value
We started early and followed a slow group for the first couple of holes but they sped up; we barely waited all day and finished in good time. The greens had been recently sanded but were very playable. Fairways were in good shape and the price could not be beat. Good day, great weather.
The course is in great shape.
Unfortunately the day we played it was overcast and foggy. The course though was in great shape.
