Fast play ... slow greens

We played early on a foggy morning and the greens were painfully slow, however the good pace of play by all the locals made the
round fly by. The amount of play the course gets is evident in certain spots, and overall the maintenance of the course was so so. It was fun to play a tight course with some smaller greens.

Great value

We started early and followed a slow group for the first couple of holes but they sped up; we barely waited all day and finished in good time. The greens had been recently sanded but were very playable. Fairways were in good shape and the price could not be beat. Good day, great weather.

The course was in good shape

A typical layout for a "hills course" . The course was good, the play was very slow. The worse $6.00 polish sausage I ever tossed in the can.

This course is always extremely slow

If there is a Marshall, they are never doing their job. I have never finished a round in under 5 hours here and I am an above average golfer. When I played here yesterday, there were literally 4 groups waiting at the 4th hole tee box. They are obviously booking more tee times than they should in order to make more money. One time I golfed here I had to wait for 45 minutes after my tee time to tee off. If you're hungry and golf in the afternoons, don't expect the grill to be open after 5:30 ON A SATURDAY! I only come here when my buddy insists. If you really want to play at a great course with an incredible value, play at Bluerock Springs in Vallejo. They have two 18 hole courses and the speed is pretty good. Look for great deals on Golf Now, as I can sometimes get in 18 holes for $24. Tilden is very pretty, but the overcrowded course ruins your round as you can't maintain any sort of tempo.

If you like hills you will love this course

Course is in a pristine location on the edge of a large park with lots of beautiful scenery everywhere you look. Most holes have are either uphill or downhill from the tee box, some with doglegs. Really gives you a chance to try all your shots. Play is a little slow as tee times are booked fairly close so plan on a short wait on most tee boxes, but it isn't excessive. The surrounding hills protect this course from the coastal winds and fog.

Challenging, but very enjoyable.

Great course; well groomed and reasonably priced. I will definitely be back. Beer prices are more expensive then a Giants game however... let's check into that.

Last time

This is my first review on a course thru Golfnow considering I have played >60+ courses the past 12 months. Having said this, my experience is awful. Way too many people that were booked. If you are familiar with this course, then you would know that this is hilly to say the least. I have nothing against people walking but it forces the pace to be very slow. With this, you stand on being hit by balls as people get frustrated. This leads to temper flaring which worsens once game. Then more bad behavior. I did not see Marshall the whole time. There was a cart lady. I can understand not having a Marshall...kill messenger.

Course in good playing condition.

Typical slow play for a Sunday afternoon round. No starter or marshall on duty. My twosome using separate carts was stuck behind 4 walkers. Many thanks to the drink cart lady for providing advice on skipping a few holes to go around the slow group. Played the skipped holes after completing the 18th.

Beautiful day in the park

Tilden GC is a tight driving course with generally long rounds. Elevation changes make pulling the right club difficult at times, especially if the wind is up. Greens were in good shape. Beverage cart was present a few time. Although the course is not long overall, the long par threes make up for the short par fours. Drainage is a problem during the wet months.

This is a fun course in a beautiful setting

Since moving to Berkeley a couple years ago this has become my defacto home course. I really enjoy all of the fun tee shots (many have large elevation gains, require placement for approach to the green or necessitate playing the slope of the fairway. While many holes are adjacent, large trees do a pretty good job of defining the holes. Greens are only ok, but otherwise the course is in pretty good shape. Don't expect to get a 4 hour round in on an afternoon weekend, but I can often get up there in the evenings on weekdays for as many holes as I can get in before dark.

Hour delay from start time

It took 6 hours from the time we were supposed to start to finish our round. Worse than that, the staff did not even care. I think this is a beautiful course but I am highly considering never going back there again.

A must for those who like scenery while golfing

Very nice course with more than suitable conditions. A couple of the fairway literally run parallel to each other and right next to one another. The scenery is gorgeous! If I had to give them a markdown for something, it would be some of the tee boxes. Several were very muddy and difficult to find a good launching spot. Overall I would have to say "give it a try".

Great course if time is no issue

If you have all day (at least 5 hours on Saturday), this course is well worth the effort to find it and play it. Fairways were superbly mowed and greens were in remarkable, if not perfect, condition. Because of the type of grass used on the greens, they ran slow and broke hard. Made putting the most difficult challenge. Beautiful vistas, elevated tee boxes, and fabulous BBQ Bacon Chicken Wrap at the turn.
