Find somewhere else to play in the Bay Area, especially in the winter
Course staff totally unorganized, no idea of who was teeing off or when for the first 3-4 foursomes in the morning. Starter was talking smack to my friend on the first tee because he shanked his drive to the left and we were playing the blues. Zero golf etiquette, he was literally talking in his prep and when he was at address.
Nobody behind us all day, they next group was 2 and 1/2 holes back, oh and by the way on the first tee the blues add like 5 yards.
Course retains too much water and was like playing in a mud puddle.
It's a good looking course and plays much better in the summer, but with the poor course management, I won't be returning.
Quiet little gem in the Berkley Hills
This course is a great challenge for any golfer. I've played here several times and will continue to come back. Well maintained greens and fairways. Highly recommend playing here.
Beautiful course
After playing Tilden, it instantly became one of my favorites. It's in a beautiful setting, very scenic, very interesting and challenging. The weather was perfect for us so that added to our experience.
The course was maintained very well, with the only knock being that it doesn't seem to drain well. The fairways were very wet even though we hadn't had rain in several days. Otherwise though, excellent experience. Will definitely take out of town guests there.
Scenic, difficult course with considerable elevation change
This is a beautiful, but challenging course. The fairways are very unforgiving and the hills are brutal - definitely not the right course for a beginner (I'm not a beginner, but my partner and I ripped up our scorecard around the 16th hole...). The constant elevation changes can be challenging and the Back 9 is a tight squeeze - be prepared to yell Fore quite a bit. The course is well-maintained and the snack bar is awesome. I'm not sure what the usual rates are, but we got a great deal on GolfNow.
The course has a beautiful setting
Except for the fog on this particular day we really enjoyed the course.
Distractions and crowds abound on tees, greens & fairways
If you don't mind carts going by and people talking in your backswing, this is the course for you. The high, hilly scenery lined with trees will remind you of the Sierras, but the layout is so tight you will get to know several other groups on the course. The tees and greens are in clusters, so Fore! has people ducking throughout the round.
Tough course for a non-long hitter. Hilly with some tough lies.
A course on which I seldom do well. First hole is a par 4, but probably should be a 5. A very scenic course.
Spoiled!!
10 minutes from my front door and I can be far far from the maddening crowd. Take Tilden way too much for granted being it has always been in my backyard so to speak. Only when we bring the occasional visitor due we fully realize what we're blessed with. A beautiful tranquil course where you can hear your thoughts with the toughest 1st hole. Period!
Hilly, but a beautiful course.
Enjoyed playing Tilden; will play again soon. Greens were well maintained and ran fast. Deer everywhere!!!
Not long and a bit hilly but still fun.
This course has one of the toughest opening holes in the bay area. The pace of play can vary and in the winter it does not drain well. That said this is a fun challenge for most golfers. Greens are fair and the scenery is woodsy.
That's a hilly course!
Very interesting layout with SERIOUS elevation changes. Not your leisurely walking course, but thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately, the greens had just been recently punched with no warning in the golfnow listing. Conditions affecting play should always be identified, but it's probably the fault of the course. The morning was foggy and lifted to blue sky by the third hole. That fact and that the extensive tree cover shades much of the teeing ground and even fairways, made for some very wet (winter-like) conditions. I regretted wearing my summer spike-less golf shoes every time my feet spun out on a swing. I would play here again without good spike shoes.
We had no issues with slow play and there seemed to be a fair amount of players on the course. Never saw a marshall or cart girl, but there is a very convenient snack shack at the turn--literally at the 10 tee box.
Good practice facilities--range, putting green, bunker and chipping green. My only complaint was an operational issue. Because we booked the day of play, the starter did not have our tee time on his sheet. As a result, he let three groups with tee times after ours tee off ahead of us. Long uncomfortable story (he blamed us for not checking in with him earlier, in addition to the pro shop), but we eventually got off and had a great time. They need to revamp their operations. There was no excuse for the problem. The starter stands 20 yards from the pro shop and he carries a walkie-talkie.
We'll be back, but not during the rainy season.
Excellent challenge for slope play and un-level lyes. Beautiful course.
What a location...excellent weather...and it brings back some old memories. The course can be difficult in some areas...but, the reward is worth he effort.
