Golfer Reviews
Lost Its Luster
Overall course conditions have precipitously declined over the last few years. The rough on this course is now dirt and parts of the fairway resemble what you’d find in a front yard that’’s devoid of water and maintenance.
Additionally, pace of play on this course is worse than sitting on our 91 freeway in rush hour traffic. We completed 13 holes after teeing off at 12:50. The pace was so slow, I could’ve kept score for those in the group in front of us.
I will not return ever again.

Great Course
Course plays long and tough. Greens are fast and in good shape.. Fairways are average. Pace of play was great all day.
Hurry up an wait
Been here many times and love the course. Joey inside the pro shop is always welcoming and friendly as is the female Marshall (sorry I don’t know her name). Today the course was backed up more then ever and it was a hurry up and wait scenario, but the weather was so nice we weren’t as annoyed as slow pace usually makes people. The greens were super fast today but the tee boxes were inconsistent in their grooming. All in all, it’s always a challenging course to play I will be back!
Golf Outing
The course was in good condition, had a great outing with family and friends.
Neglect
What was once a great course is now just a profit center for someone who cares little about maintaining a golf course. Tees and fairways are miserable.
They have nice greens but that’s not enough, it’s sad.

Terrible condition!!!
They are not maintaining this course!! It is beyond repair unless they put a large amount of $$$ into it! I wouldn’t recommend it to any golfers, no matter how much they might discount the price. Too bad, because it used to be a decent course.
Hello David and thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve, and we are working towards getting things up to par. Thank you for playing The Golf Club at Rancho California. We hope to see you again soon.
Poor management
We had a Tee time of 2:30, but when we got there they informed us they were just finishing up a tournament, but we would make our time. Well that was off; we didn’t get on for over an hour later than our scheduled time and then groups in the tournament were going around us on the course. Because of the backup, we didn’t finish, so my friend spoke to the Director of Golf Larry Werner and he said he would have to speak to the owner and call back. He didn’t call back so, my friend called him. He said the owner would not comp 9 holes. This was complete BS since it was their mismanagement of the tournament and lack of honesty on where they were with the times. I decided to call myself to try and get the owner info to give them the opportunity to make it right before posting a negative review, but the person (very friendly and professional) did not know who the owner was; although she did give me the General Managers name. When I called back to speak to him, Larry answered the phone and told me the GM was no longer working there. When I asked for the owners name, he said he would ask the owner to call me. Golf is not cheap and when a golf course screws things up, it should be no problem to comp the 9 holes we didn’t get to play. Very disappointing to say the least.

Ok course
I probably wouldn’t play here as often if it wasn’t so close to my house. Course isn’t in great condition and seems to be always under some repair. Needs some major TLC
Over Priced
We played in about 3 1/2 hours. No one in front of us or behind us. The fairways are in ok shape. Off the fairways could use some help. The greens ran nicely. Two weeks before that as a twosome we played in 2 1/2 hours. I think the reason for the pace of play is because of price. It’s way over priced for the conditions of the course. It’s hard to pay around 50 bucks to play with COVID-19 and no work right now. Especially when I have the PM deal at Cross Creek and can play 3 to 4 times a week for 15 dollars. We tried to buy the deal here but were took we were a day late. I guess the course already has enough money coming in.

Fun Day
We had a good time as always. I was a little disappointed at the water levels on several holes as it took away from the beauty of the course offers. It’s a good track
need attention
Course has possibilities, but needs work. Greens have been hit with virus and very patchy. Nice to play in just over 2 hrs

Nice course, Bad Customer Service
The course layout is challenging but fun. It’ll test all skill levels, and the course conditions were in good manner. The staff was very unfriendly though. I brought a spectator and the lady at the front desk rudely demanded that I come inside and pay the spectator fee instead of asking nicely. Also, the lady inside the Bar/Grill was rude too. I ordered a burger and told her I wanted just meat, cheese and bacon. And they brought me a burger with everything on it and then she proceeded to say she “Never heard me say that” and I know I did as well as my girlfriend. But she proceeded to be rude about it. I know I sound picky and needy but it’s the little things about the staff that can make peoples visit enjoyable. I would play here again and recommend it to others but would definitely not have any interactions with the staff besides just checking in. Also, pace of play is horrible here. There was no starter so it was just free reign on going to the first tee box.
It's gone downhill, but still pretty fun
The course used to be in much much better shape and the staff appear to really have let it go. However, it's not the worst course in the valley and still plays pretty hard. The Marshall could move folks along a little better too. Overall, it's still behind Cross Creek and Temecula Creek Inn here in the valley, but it's better than Redhawk, Temeku/Legends, and Menifee Lakes.

Don’t waste your time
This place is poorly run, in bad shape (though I will say the greens are ok) and criminally overpriced.
Temecula Creek Inn, CrossCreek, Hemet Golf Club, Seven Hills and Summerly are all much better, especially when you factor in the price. It’s a shame too, because Rancho Cal has a great layout. They just can’t be bothered to run it properly.
To the Rancho Cal employee who responded to my review:
I sent a long and detailed message regarding my issues to your online submission form. I also gave two weeks for a response with zero response before I downgraded a 4 star yelp review to a single star.
Please review that information to see my concerns.

5 hour round
They had a Friday Skins event in the am. I had a 1:23 tee time. They had a 5-some that teed off on one in front of us. 3 hours to play the front 9. 2 and a half to play the back.
Sand traps are filled with rocks....not small pebbles of sand, fist sized rocks.
The service in the restaurant was friendly, but super slow.
Hi, Jim. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. Fun course
My dad and I really enjoy playing this course. Lots of fun challenging holes.
Tough but Super Fun Layout for $
I have played this course many times in the past...yet it had always been mid-week & very early. My new job is a 9-5 which means higher rates & more crowds on all courses. This specific location the course was built upon, begins on top of a big hill/mountain, which then weaves you through a never ending up down golf game that makes each holes scenic & unique. The course does a phenomenal job of spacing out tee times and groups, for example, enabled our foursome to keep a pace just under 4 hours, never having to wait mid hole/on tee box for slower groups ahead. Icing on the cake...under $50.00 @ 11:00 a.m.
