Nice local course
I've enjoyed playing with my son on this course. Awesome summer rates. Hot but still fun. The course is in great shape considering the heat.
Very Average Course
Overall the course was average. Challenging with narrow fairways and good course layout. The greens were very soft, spongey and slow. The fairways were in ok condition and the rough was very very thick. The course surroundings were not taken care of very well, so the views were not that pleasing but that didn’t effect the actual play. Houses are very close to the fairways which adds a little pressure but it was a nice challenge. The course was not busy so pace was perfect, no waiting and no pressure from behind.
I usually don’t have a problem with green fees but I do think that $50 was a little steep for this particular course. I’ve played courses with similar conditions and they are usually around $30-$40.
Overall I would play here again but it wouldn’t be at the top of my list.
Golf can be a challenge
I love the attitude of my grandson, just starting golf, 10 years old, but had the greatest time of his life. Course has a ton of trouble if you slice and several obstacles to hit over, (water and barrancas). These things don't brother a 10 year. The greens are in great shape.
Hot and windy
California Oaks is a short, par 70 and 4800 yard, relatively flat course. Greens were mostly in good shape, fairways and tee boxes less so. We started at 2pm, 97 degrees, sunny and windy. This course is good for beginners and would be walkable in cooler weather.
This course takes a bit of knowledge and practice but is always a great course to play.
Always a great time at cal oaks
Course could definetly use work, and lots of it.. there’s no denying that.. but sometimes it’s about the other factors like your crew . And the overall experience leaving the rough conditions as they play.. there are birdies and eagles to be made out here.. I understand people’s gripes to an extent.. but go shoot par, then I feel like you might have a tiny bit of room to talk crap. Instead of on a review board online. Staff is always friendly and helpful to everyone. Thanks Scott, and crew ! It’s always a pleasure !
Worst Course in the IE
Made a goal to play new courses this year and this course is definitely not worth the money. Paid $40 for a course that isn’t even worth $20. I should’ve known when I checked in and the guy in the office apologized for it being my first time there. Tee boxes are practically non-existent, fairways are rougher than rough, and the greens are beat to crap with fungus growing everywhere and mushy. Needless to say, I’ll never be golfing here again.
HOA Where's the love?
Its been a year since I last played this course and it's obvious that nobody cares or has the cash to keep this gated community course alive. It's on life support and I'd be shocked if golf is still being played here 12 month from now.
Fun with friends
Had a 2pm tee time and course was pretty wide open. This short course is very challenging with skinny fairways on some holes. Love playing here.
This course looked like it hasn’t been taken care of for a very long time. You would think that because it’s in a gated community, it would be exceptional. Not. Dry patches everywhere followed by long grass. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to come play here, especially for the price.
Sad because this course looks like it has potential
I don’t like leaving negative reviews but have to with this course. Worst bunkers I’ve witnessed since I started playing golf, weeds and gofer holes/mounds every hole, greens were like carpet and others had dirt spots on them and the worst tee boxes I’ve ever seen. Just look at an aerial view on google maps and you’ll understand. It really is a shame as the course layout has potential. Can’t believe it’s a part of a gated community and accepted by the hoa!?. We played on a hot deal and still was in disbelief even for a cheap round. I would be furious if I had to pay regular prices!
Pretty good for the cost
Golf staff was friendly and helpful, pace of play was okay. First 9 was a little slow, but last 9 went fairly quick. Lots of water and sand traps, greens were rough. Overall worth the cost.
Won’t come back
No course maintenance. No food. Only one staff member for everything… carts, check in and everything. She didn’t even know what a putting green was. When asked, she directed me to the driving mat. All around poor experience
Great Lay Out
This course has a ton of potential and a great layout. The score has a perfect length for finishing up within 3 hours And the obstacles were nicely set. On the day of our play the greens were not cut. Very slow and bumpy. Certain holes were like rolling a ball across a Chinese checker's board. We played at a discounted rate so I was not too disappointed. I would definitely play here again at a discounted rate that is comparable to a couple of buckets of balls.
