A classic in great shape
I used to play San Dimas Canyon all the time in the 90’s, but hadn’t played it in 20 year after moving out of state. It was exactly the same challenging but fair, target-golf course I remembered, but in much better condition. Greens were well kept and fast. Guys in the shop were very friendly. Only knock... they sell Foot-Joy merch but for some strange reason don’t put the SDC course logo on it? On all the other brands of shirts/jackets, etc. Would have bought an FJ polo to rep a favorite SoCal course back in North Carolina, but not to be...
Sloooooow
Course is challenging and fun but the pace of play was horrendous. It took us 6 hours to play 18. We were waiting on every tee box with multiple groups. Seems like they over booked it.
overall review
for the price it was a good deal. Fairways sometimes a little rough but overall a good deal
SAM DIMAS
COURSE WAS IN CONDITION AND REALLY ENJOYABLE HOWEVER THE STARTER WAS RUDE AND NEEDED TO
BE A LITTLE MORE FRIENDLY TO THE PAYING CUSTOMERS BUT OTHER THAN THAT WE HAD A GREAT TIME ON A FUN CHALLENGING COURSE
Slow slow slow
Golf is a hard game, but when you have to wait 10 minutes to hit a shot from the fairway, it tests your patience and makes it harder. The POP here is terrible. 5 hours is ridiculous. With that said, if you can catch this course on a quiet day, you'll enjoy it. Tee boxes could be better, the fairways are decent, the greens are good with the exception of many un fixed divots. Come on folks, you know who you are, fix them and a few more, you have time at this place. The sand is average, hit and miss, and the layout is a bit odd on some holes. The scenery is great and there are few deer to take pictures of while you are waiting to tee off. Don't play here on the weekend, but give it a shot during the week. And for God sake, don't bring a 5 some. Leave the odd man out at home.
Great round of golf. Course was challenging, but fun at the same time.
Course was in good condition!
First time in awhile. Started a little late, they let 5somes out on Sundays. Pace ended up good though 5 hours...
Course in good shape! Staff was friendly. Susan the beverage cart lady made a fantastic Bloody Mary.
Price was ok for a Sunday Morning in SoCal...
Good once in awhile course..
Morning Value
Played for $34 on a Friday morning, which I consider a great deal for this course. They also have a good twilight rate and it’s all even better if you’re an American Golf Player’s Club Member.
The greens are in great shape right now. Not the fastest I’ve ever seen, but very consistent and true. Bunkers and tee boxes are in decent shape. Some areas of the fairway and rough are patchy on a few holes, but not so much that it would ever detour me from playing here!
Layout plays pretty short (about 6400 from blue, 6000 white), but is still a par 72. Several holes play narrow from the tee and you can easily be shooting between, under, over, and around trees.
I’ve also seen deer here many times!
Slow play
For the second round played in 35 days, the pace of play was ridiculously slow. There was a course marshal, but never spoke to the fivesome playing multiple balls on nearly every hole. Took my group nearly 6 hours to play this course.
Decent Course- Pace way too slow!
We played at 7:56 on a Friday morning. Too many large groups playing together and a few 5-some’s. Why does any course allow this? Long waits on every tee box the entire round. No Marshal around to help keep pace of play. No cart service- considering how busy the course was this is not a good thing when it’s over 95 degrees. No water stations and many ball washers on tees missing or empty and unusable. Nice course in decent, not great condition, but we may not play here again based on how painfully slow it was to play.
Never finished
Was put between a 5, and 4 some. Pace of play is as bad as the reviews warn.
Marshall’s and Staff don’t care!
They seem all organized Trying to get you off to the first tee box but that’s about it. 3 groups in front of us all 5 somes. Marshall’s didn’t push at all. Tee time was at 8 we finished at 2. Greens were in decent shape. Some fairways were patchy missing grass.
Memories at this course
Seems like a lot of hackers play here now which is a negative and pace of play was horrible. Staff seems ok but seems to just go through motions. Seems like it has lost its underated feel and has gone down from past memories. On a good note, there were deers on the course. White Lady in office near the balcony is very rude and seemed very unhappy with her life. She may need some friends because she has a very snappy attitude for no reason. She looks lonely and mean.
How to destroy a Sunday
I arrived at the course and checked in. Easy enough. I walk out to check in with the starter and get a cart, as I look at the 1st tee box, a fivesome. On the 1st Green, a fivesome. I check in jus as my buddy walks up and the starter informs us our twosome has been paired with 3 singles, making, yes you guessed it, a fivesome.
Pace of play is horrible here.
No marshal to help the pace of play
always launching fivesome
The course is in decent shape and a pretty good layout to challenge your game but not destroy you.
But if you want to trash a Sunday, play here and watch the day slide past as you wait on every shot from the first tee box to the last green...…….
Decent Conditions, Terrible Pace
This course would be much better if they’d focus on making pace of play a priority. Tee time was 7a on a Saturday, only about 40min after sunrise so not many groups in front of us.
Total round took about 5.25hrs. 1st hole, someone started walking backwards about 50 yards from the green and almost got hit with our tee shots. Then we almost got hit with a drive from the group behind us on the 17th, even though pace had been slow ALL DAY.
If you play here, the course is in pretty decent shape, but expect to wait about 3-5min every shot. They stack groups on top of each other, they send out 5-somes even though you can’t book them online, and every hole is so close you’re almost always in the line of fire from somewhere.
Won’t be back.
Excellent Value and Challenge
Greeted immediately by the friendly helpful staff
Fairways and greens in excellent condition
Can’t wait to play again !!!
