Marshall Canyon Golf Course is nestled within the scenic foothills that overlook La Verne. The course is seemingly short at 6,110 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The hilly terrain provides more than enough uneven lies and blind shots. The fast greens are also some of the toughest in the area but they are nicely balanced by wide, player-friendly fairways. The hard-to-read greens have subtle but tricky breaks that get easier once you've played the golf course before but even then, they still present some challenges. Marshall Canyon is a local favorite not only for the challenging round but also because it's a good value with great scenery. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and will often catch a glimpse of the many deer that roam the course.

Tough day at MC

Let me start by saying I always enjoy coming to Marshall Canyon. It's my home course so I'm a bit bias. The course is in decent condition , and it looks like they are doing more work to improve it, which is great. I know the course well, but today I figured out why the round was 5 hours. It's when the pins are placed in tough spots on multiple greens. I average 32 putts per round, and today I had 36. Downhill putts ran completely off the green even when they were just tapped. I had 2 uphill putts that made a u turn and came back further than where I started. It was not enjoyable.

MC putting is always tough, but this was unfair and slowed the pace of play substantially. Everything else was great. Make the pins more accessible, have more fun, and play faster!

Challenging

If you’re looking for a challenge this is the course. The course as a whole isn’t too bad but the greens are hilly, sloped, and have multiple breaks that are really difficult to spot. I’m sure it’s a fun challenge for some, I just found it frustrating.

Wide open

This course is very open. Putting is hard here, as it seems every green is slanted. The hills and wait time wore me completely down by the 18th. Grass and rough are consistant. The Bacon cheeseburger after the ninth was also great. I’d come back again.

Fun Course, need to monitor pace of play

I’ve played this course many times and enjoy playing here. But I waited near 30 minutes at the par 3 tee boxes and on average 5-10 minutes at each other tee box. I could only play the front nine even though I teed off at 1 PM. I didn’t get to the back nine until 4 PM, and at that point the sun will set in about one hour. The pro shop really needs to monitor the pace of play because it’s unacceptable to pay for a full 18 when you realistically will only get through 9.
