Located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club offers some of the best Santa Clara golf deals. The course is within walking distance of California's Great American Theme Park and a approximately 40 miles from downtown San Francisco.
The Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club was designed by Robert Muir Graves and was opened 1987. This 18 hole course (par 72) covers 6,722 yards from the championship tees. The course has a rating of 72.3 with a slope of 119 on bent grass. The course is well kept. The course has several water hazards, many strategically placed sand traps and sloping greens. In the afternoon, the wind can become a factor as the greens dry out becoming very quick. This course offers plenty of chances to make golf shots.
When your are ready to make Santa Clara tee times, you can ask about Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club discounts offered on a daily basis. Reservations may be handled online or through the course starter. Amenities include a large nite-lit driving range and practice facility, a pro shop, cart and club rentals, 7 lighted tennis courts for rent by the hour and a restaurant/bar.
Players rave about the practice facility. The driving range is large and the hitting mats are very good. The course is well maintain.

Very slow play
Took 5 hours to play 15 holes, left after that as it would have been another hour to play last 3, I know this place closes next week but no Marshall, no beverage cart.... nothing, very poor !!!!

Thank you for the review and feedback. I checked and saw that you booked a full rate fee on GolfNow. There were discounted rates available so not quite sure what happened re: the fee.
We have had issues with the fertility of the greens and are treating them every day.

Now what I expected
I hate to give negative reviews, but I choose to try this course because of an earlier review that was not consistent with my experience. I played this course many times many years ago and wanted to play it again before it closed. Unfortunately I do not believe the course is in good shape. Many greens have large areas with no grass - just dirt. Hole placement attempts to work around the bad areas, but the greens are not in good shape. Unfortunately the pace of place was also a problem (5 hours 25 minutes). There were two groups in front of our group as we arrived on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th tees. Holes 5-9 the pace improved, but the entire back-9 we were behind a very slow group of 4 young men who were enjoying a few too many beverages. There were 2 open holes in front of this group by the time we reached the 14th tee. I wanted to like this course again, but unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience.

The slow pace was unacceptable and our ambassadors should have been encouraging the slow group to drink less and play faster.

There are six persons in front of me plying together, the rule s shouldn’t allow. Too slow!

Thank you for the feedback. Our ladies group had it's final event the day you played. Several of the managers played 2-3 holes with the groups so there were a few holes with 6 players. We were aware of the 3-some behind and were monitoring and managing pace. All of the groups played in under 4 hours and 30 minutes. I apologize that the pace was not faster and appreciate that you allowed our club to have a fun, final event.

Play It While You Can
Be advised, this course is going to be closing down sometime in October of 2019 so book your round while you can.
For a course that knows its life is coming to an end, the conditions are still pretty good (on par or a little above what you would expect from a typical muni course in the area). Most parts of the fairways have nice green grass. Most tee boxes are in good condition but some have bare spots or are slightly crowned. Most greens are in good condition but a few have some recovering areas and they are slower than I remember in years past.
Played Saturday afternoon with a tee time of 12:37 and the course was mostly empty. A few singles or twosomes here and there. Not sure if people stayed away because of the football game at the stadium nearby that was later in the evening or this is normal for a Saturday at the course. Finished the round as a twosome in three hours thirty minutes.
**To save you some time driving around, if you play on a day when there is a stadium event, you must enter from the First St/Tasman Dr. route as the Great America Pkwy/Tasman Dr. route is blocked off. Also, follow the signs for the pass holders and just tell the people you are going to the golf course**

Very slow pace of play
Slow pace of play and no marshals around to help speed it up. Groups were jumping out of sequence and a twosome was using one set of clubs? No bueno!!

Thank you for the feedback. I apologize that your experience was not up to expectation. It appears you must have been stuck between slow groups as the longest pace we recorded for that day was 4 hours and 30 minutes with most groups averaging 4 hours or less.
We did have marshals out monitoring pace and guest actions. We try hard to control non-conforming behavior to ensure everyone has a good time. If you see something or have a concern with pace, please call the golf shop at 408.980.9515 ext. 0. We will come out and address any concerns.

Horrible
Bad greens slow pace of play no one to regulate
No drinks or food other then water or orange Gatorade

I am sorry to read that you didn't enjoy your experience. I will investigate the slow play as the tee sheet was light that day so you should have had a quick round. My apologies that is was not.
We don't hold the food concession but David's restaurant is along the 18 fairway and is available for food with a full bar.

Very long day
We were late starting, regular occurrence in my experiences with this course, would avoid on weekends as we topped the previous 4.75+ hour round with a 5.75+ hour round today. No beverage cart service, no onsite food, needed to go next door. Staff was friendly, just to many golfers packed into short time spans.
