Picture perfect day at Spanos Photo submitted by Tem23powtfgj on 07/06/2013
Veterans Day
I enjoyed the day, the weather was perfect and the course was in great shape and the greens where fast, but true.
Great track!
Pace was too slow. On the 6th hole there were 16 golfers. I called the Marshall who helped move it along.
Great
I have played this course a number of times over the years. Today I think the course was in the best condition. I have seen it. The fairways would run and the greens ran true. I would guess they running at a 10 to 11. Definitely wanted to be below the hole. Staff was friendly and the cart girl was going around. For the price this was a nice round.
Beautiful Course, too slow pace of play
Gorgeous course, true greens, nice layout. But when they allow 5 players in a group, your round will go 5 hours and 30 mins. Ridiculous! Fix the pace of play and I’d say it’s the best course around the Central Valley.
The fast n the furious
A great course, pretty open and not to long. But long enough that you’re gonna have to play placement golf. Only thing is the greens are as fast as they come and does not forgive aggressive attacks. Pace of play is less then desirable. Overall a great fun course. I recommend.
wonderful course
The course was in perfect shape with some of the best rolling greens around. One of our favorite place to play in the bay area. The small attention to details really shows the amount of care and pride of the management.
Great golf day!
This is a wonderful facility from clubhouse to course. Played at noon on a Tuesday with a threesome, finished at 4 and never had to wait for one shot - perfect. Course conditions were very good with very subtle but tricky greens. They were very true and slick - stay below the hole of you can!! The course is very fair, starting off very straightforward then increasing the difficulty as the round gets into the back nine. Most holes require driver off the tee - maybe some more bunkers well placed in landing zones would require more thought. Speaking of bunkers, I know it's fall, but many bunkers had zero sand and were soaked by watering into hardpan or concrete. Tough to play out of that and expect to hold shots on the slick greens. I drove from San Francisco - 1.5 hours but totally worth it for a $18 fee with cart on Golf Now!
Spanos
Course was good. Greens seem like they were recently punched with pin holes. Although greens were rough they still rolled fast and true. Certain fairways had really soggy areas.
beyond expectations
really nothing to complain about. An 80 degree, sunny, windless day on a links style course that is extremly well maintained. Forgiving fairways, immaculate greens, well conceived holes...tough enough to challenge, multiple tee's but not so hard as to make the rounds longer than needed becasue holes are tricked out. Played as a single with a twosome who were nice and competent players. This was a very enjoyble round.
greens are hard and fast
great improvement from last visit. greens are fast and conditions are great.
First time playing, neat course, concrete greens
First time playing, drove a bit over an hour to play here. Nice setting..
Okay so my last few reviews the course didn't have what I would call an acceptable driving range. However, this one does. It's big, it's wide, it's long. Prices are fair, flags with 10' or so circle for a green, so you can see if the ball settles in the area vs just aiming at a green. Note: the area we were hitting from and the 2-3 areas in front of that were rough. They probably needed to move this all back another spot before we arrived at 11:00 (was really chewed up).. But solid driving range, lots of space, so A- :)
Carts, good quality electric carts, good places for your playing balls and tees and beverages. Electric etc..
Course, it's nice it really is, has some width, so you have some room to work the ball, sand traps (luckily I only ended up in 2, (one fairway and one green side), but they had actual fluffy sand, well maintained etc.. No real information on the score card, so you are kind of on your own, if you just wanted a basic layout of the hole! :)
The areas where water would come into play, def made you consider your shots. (I put 2 in the water from the drive and one that rolled over the concrete greens into the water (no rough or tall grass to stop it)..
Greens, are fast and then they are not. They really feel like concrete (really hard) and should be fast and sometimes they are and sometimes you scratch your head like WHAT?, I think if you play here enough, you would be fine, but we played 54 holes in 3 days at different courses (so totally different greens, these were def the hardest), I think it rolled fine, and the greens gave you a challenge (even if this is your local course (I would assume))
I hear, that it can get windy (like 15mile per hour winds coming off the Delta). There was very little wind on this day so it was really nice. But I can see it being even more challenging at other times.
OH!! 2 porta-potty on the course so if you can't wait for the turn, you are in luck!! (they seem to be tucked back in there and are not eye sores (sorry didn't use so can't say anything about nose sore). But they are def handy.
Hotdogs at the turn were good (same as the previous place but better steamed). A bit pricey $7,.88 for a dog and chips, throw in a $35 soda for that amount come on!! :) They have a full bar as well, but we quickly ran in for some grub and since we were waiting all day on the 4 walkers that played from the tips ALL DAY!, we had some time.
We finished the round in about 4 hours and if we didn't have the wait we would have done it in 3.5 hours (recommend time is 4 hours and 20 minutes (per the cart plaque).
Good course , It was our 2nd favorite of the 3 courses we played, however I'm guessing it would have been our 3rd, had we actually played Saddle Creek..
Great Track
Maybe the best public course around.
Great design, very good condition. Fast and firm.
Nice people.
Great course for the price
Very nice course, not too hard but has its challenges. Greens were glass fast. We had a great time!
Booked a tee time online. Arrive at the course an hour early to find they were hosting a scramble tournament. I asked if I could get out ahead of the tournament, which did not start for another two hours. He told me he wasn’t going to let me out onto the course and there was nothing he could do about the tee time being available online. Extremely rude about it as well.
Smooth greens
Some areas a little wet but the greens were smooth and fast. Great day, lots of fun.
