Very Nice
What a great experience. Got my round for $32 on GolfNow. Haven't played this course in almost 2 years. Still some wetness from all the rain in the last month but overall the course is in great shape. Grenns were rolling pretty true and well manicured for this time of year. I will definitely be playing this course more this year. Get out and treat yourself.
Wonderful course
Had a great time. Staff were amazing and the course was in great shape considering the weather they have had so far this year. Would definitely return.
First Outing for 18 this Year
Beautiful day to play with my buddy. We enjoyed our time on the course immensely.
Course was wet and cart needed to stay on the path. It makes it like walking 18 since Avalon is no small course. Ball cleaners were mostly out of water as well.
Maybe another day.
The course was challenging
I golfed with two very good golfers that had the same tee time through GolfNow as I did. The tees and greens were in great shape. The speed of the greens varied from fast to slow, it did not matter where sun was or if you were putting uphill or downhill. The golf carts were in excellent shape and were equipped with gps that warn you of a crosswalk, distance from the pin and control you cart speed when descending a hill. I look forward to golfing at Avalon again.
Decent course but greens a bit chewed up
The course is hilly and is cut along the side of hills, given that it is central Tenneesee that is neither surprising nor a problem. However the greens are a bit chewed up. It appears to be a combination of players not repairing marks, but a lot of water and tear too. Plus there seems to be some agronomy issues as well. Stay in the fairways, if you get in the rough you can get buried in the rough.
Overall a good value. We would play it again.
This Course has always been challenging with character but..
Today’s game was Brutal in in the mid 90’s, the slow play started at the beginning of the round and got worse as we played. It was too hot to stand around and wait on every hole. I do know that the 3 some in front called the pro shop but they were let thru at the turn. We played with 2 nice singles. The greens were a little disappointing in some areas, and unfortunate that they put a couple of the flag holes close to the bad areas. There are other courses closer to us for a better price so don’t know when we will go back, but not writing the course off.
Outstanding course
We had a great day at Avalon. From the bottled water at the driving range to the cold towels offered when we were in the 8th fairway. The course was in good shape. The greens rolled great even while being aerated. Pace of play was as expected for Labor Day. We will definitely be back.
Thank you for your kind comments. We are working hard to bring Avalon back to what it was 25 years ago. Those details that you mentioned above symbolize our renewed commitment to excellence.
My favorite course in Knoxville
I have played Avalon many times over the years, and have always enjoyed it. My family and I recently joined and really enjoy the renovated clubhouse and pool. The food and drinks are great, the staff is fantastic. I really like the new bunkers and golf carts. We highly recommend Avalon!
Great Course
First time playing Avalon. Golf course was in great shape. A few rough spots on some of the greens, but it has been a rough summer. Will recommend and will play again.
Challenging
I've played this course several times. It's a good course with lots to offer. It's been a while since I last played and was looking forward to playing it again. Price was steep compared to other courses in the area. Must be to pay for the new golf carts. Beware you'll need to pay extra to use the GPS on the carts or any other features. I have never played a course where they charge a extra fee to use the GPS.
Slow Slow Slow
The pace of play was very slow, took at least 1 hour more than it should have. No rangers monitoring pace of play, or doing anything about pace of play. The staff is nice but I guess to nice in this situation. The one time we saw someone from the course and said something they drove the other way rather than going to address the problem foursome.
Thank you for your comments. We were blessed with great weather this Saturday and virtually every tee time was booked. We apologize for the pace of play, and will look at ways to improve. Appreciate your feedback.
Great fun
This track is one of my top 3 I’ve ever played & I’ve been playing for many years all over the south east
Well worth the money
Thank you for your kind comments on Avalon. The management and staff is working hard to elevate the course to be one of the premier courses in the Knoxville area. As you noticed the sand traps on the front nine are complete and Billy Bunker is in process of complete rebuild of the back nine. We anticipate a pre July 4th completion date. Again, Thank you for your comments. Hope to see you back soon.
Thank you for playing. Hope you will come back out when the bunkers on the back nine is completed.
Great to see the improvements!
First time I’ve played here in maybe 3 years. Condition was very bad the last time. Had heard good things recently so triied again. Big improvements, very pleased. Bunkers on front side have been redone. All that needs to be done now is backside bunkers and this course will once again be my favorite course in this area. Great layout and deserves to be top notch!
Avalon in late May
Greens are in great shape, putting quick and true. Fairways are fine overall, many bunkers are GIR for maintenance.
Good value, good golf.
Thank you for your feedback and comments on our greens, fairways and bunkers. FYI.....the Total reconstruction of our bunkers are completed on the front 9 and work began on the back 9 started on Tuesday. The investment $300,000 in the new Billy Bunkers with its crystal white sands should bring Avalon up to the standards the you should appreciate for a long time in the future.
We have played this course in previous years and enjoyed it. Not o this time! The bunkers are under repair and were totally unusable. The fairways were scalped and not watered, so very dry and little grass to hit off of. The tee boxes were so dry you could barely put in a tee. We should have at least been advised of the bunker situation ahead of time. We will not be playing this course again unless we see some reviews that show vast improvement. It's a shame, as we like the location and the layout.
Course Under repair
I had the chance to play Avalon Golf Course for the first time yesterday. I took off work to play as I haven't had a chance lately to get out on the weekends. The staff in the clubhouse were friendly and I took off on the first tee only to find that the bunkers were under construction and being dug out for drainage and loaded with gravel. I understand that they're upgrading the course from previously poor bunkers, but was not given notice from the clubhouse about the repairs or that the hired subcontractors would be driving all over the course with tractors and dump trailers hauling gravel and sand. For the first 6-7 holes I had to wait on the workers to move and finally just hit away as tractors were driving right by me. I would not have paid $35.00 for a twilight fee (not a hot deal) had I known this fact.
The greens were recovering from being aerated and were in decent condition and the fairways were coming in nicely. Had the course been in better shape or had I been warned about the conditions my review would be higher. I would caution you to call ahead and see if any renovations are currently underway. Also if you want to stop for a bite to eat at the turn good luck finding anyone in the lounge. I waited for 10 minutes and saw nobody but the kitchen workers in the back before heading to the 10th tee.
Jody, thank you for your feedback and your patience on the total reconstruction of our bunkers. We completed the front nine last week and began work on the back nine this past Tuesday. I have addressed the service in the grill, which is something we definitely focus on and take a lot of pride in. Avalon CC looks forward to hosting you in the future as we complete the enhancements of both the course and to the clubhouse. Hope to see you soon.
Fun and challenging course
I really enjoy playing this course. Course can be as hard or forgiving as you allow it. Multiple tee boxes allows you to pick your difficulty. Golf carts are great with on screen GPS for shot distance. I didn't give it an excellent rating for conditions due to the fact the course has not grown in well and many tee boxes were suffering and the greens were recently aerated. The costs should be a bit lower with current course conditions and the recent aeration which lead to the less than perfect overall rating. By June the course should be in excellent condition.
First of all, thank you for playing Avalon and your feedback. We strive to get better every day. Virtually every course in the area has suffered through and unusually cold and wet April. Thank you for the comments on the new Club Car carts. We were the 3rd course in the country to have the Shark Experience Multimedia GPS screens. Also, we began work on March 8th the total rebuild of our bunkers. Thank you again for playing Avalon and look forward to seeing you back soon.
Layout great - course needs lots of work
First time playing (from out of town) with friends.
Very friendly staff and club house conditions.
Very hilly, challenging but fun layout (blind shots, lots of lost balls).
Too much money to pay for current course conditions (all bunkers under repair and got free drop, many greens and tee boxes bare/crappy, fairways decent but not great). Told bad spring impacted conditions, but seems like more work ahead to get back in shape.
Thank you for playing Avalon and we love to host out of town visitors. We greatly appreciate you feedback. Yes, we had a tough winter, cold and wet weather in March and April didn't provide the much needed conditions for our Bermuda to refresh for the spring. Major renovations started on May 8th and I think you will be surprised a the difference if you are in the area again. Thank you again for your feedback.
Thank you for your Excellent rating. We have recently completed an overdue rebuild of our bunkers as well as many other investments in course and building. The staff has a renewed commitment to customer service and are making efforts to simply get better everyday. Look forward for you coming back.
