From the practice green you can see parts of over half the holes on the front nine. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/15/2017
PACE Of Play
PACE OF PLAY IS HORRIFIC.....Management does not seem to be taking this issue seriously. I really like the course but I find it difficult to convince my golfing club to include Bristow in the rotation because of the pace of play. It routinely takes 5 hours to get around the course even with a cart.
Always Enjoyable
Enjoyable round. Fairways and greens were in good shape, but there were quite a few ball marks on the greens. Fixing ball marks should be stressed at check in. I recommend a golf course attendant drive around at the end of they day to fix ball marks that rude players don't take care of themselves. Sand traps were a bit rough, but not horrible -- think I saw burlap or something in one. I always enjoy playing the course and will do so again.
Nice layout and in good shape
Have played here often over the years and the staff and course mgmt are always top notch. Starter put us off the back which saved us an hour so kudos to him!
Great Value
Nice people, great course layout and in GREAT shape. Met some really nice people. Only thing was we were a foursome and had way to many twosomes go through us. Slowed our round down! But still had a GREAT time! Will go back!
The course is in excellent condition
Fairways and greens are in the best shape I've ever seen. The guys I played with kept saying how the greens rolled true. Also, the pro shop was well stocked, I bought a Cutter and Buck Nat's golf shirt that I haven't been able to find.
Great Course
When some other courses in the area are suffering badly either from weather or lack of paint/investment this is a gem.
Bristol manor
Everything was very good except the golf cart makes too much noise and there is no marshal to force the players on time.
Good course on a nice day
Weather was terrific and course was in good shape and layout makes you think before hitting your shots.
I like this course more every time I play it.
I've only played here a couple of times, but every time I do, I come away really pleased with the greens and the fairways here. It looks like they put their effort into quality course conditions rather than upscale amenities and that suits me just fine. My only gripe is that I didn't see a beverage cart once. Overall, it is a good value.
Looking Forward to Returning
The course is in great shape compared to many top courses in the area. Plush fairways, fast greens, consistent bunkers, playable rough, a few blind shots and a great price! I will return.
Bristow Manor
While most of the courses in the area are suffering from poor conditions do to excessive heat, Bristow Manor's zoysia fairways are perfect!
Great value
It had been 15 years since I last played here ... The course has really matured nicely ... Course was in very good condition and the greens were in great shape. Played the Gold tees at 6700 yards and it was very challenging ... Go play it!!
Unfriendly starter cost them a star
As other recent reviewers noted, the fairways and greens here are in excellent shape! Those zoysia fairways - pure perfection. Never an excuse to miss the green after a good drive. And the greens were very, very good. Reasonably quick and mostly true. #4 was an exception - maybe just the low area where the flag was on Sunday happened to be a bit chewed up. And even their worst green is better than the best green on most public courses.
Being a relatively flat, low course, I find this course is in it's best shape when it's dry. Current conditions would bear that out. With lots of rain, it gets a bit swampy and the rough becomes almost unplayably thick.
The rough now is generally fair, with some exceptions around the greens. I was just as likely to find a decent lie in manageable bent/rye rough as I was to find one in a thick, weedy bermuda strain (or maybe just a weed?). The latter I found to be extra challenging.
Bunkers were in excellent shape. I love how the fairway bunkers have firmer, grainier sand in them making them more manageable to play from and less affected by unraked footprints.
I think all the talk of the hurricane kept the riff-raff away. There were obviously several open tee times in front of our time just before noon. The pace of play was amazing. I think we finished in under 4 hours! On a public course! On a weekend! On a beautiful day! Never been done before.
Now for the starter. Not a friendly fellow. As we were waiting for our sandwiches to come out of the kitchen (as prepared by the very friendly bar/kitchen staff) about 15 minutes before our tee time, the starter runs in and starts hassling us to get to the tee so we can tee off early. Hey, I"m all for teeing off early but you could have told us you moved up our tee time oh, I don't know, about AN HOUR AGO when we arrived and checked in to get some extended warm-up / practice time. It was too late now to rush us. Long story short, he gave us grief as we scrambled to get ready and sent the 2-ball we were to play with out ahead of us, telling us we needed to catch them. Yeah, smart move. That 2 ball ignored us through 2 holes and played through the 4-ball ahead of them on 3. We never saw them again.
As it was, the course moved so quickly that there weren't many extended wait times, even as a 2-ball. It was delightful.
Hate to complain about such a petty issue, but I've played hundreds (maybe thousands) of rounds at area public courses over the last 30 years and I don't recall a more rude starter. So, bravo dude! That's quite an accomplishment!
Anyway, go play the course. Just get there early and laugh if the starter is this same guy. You'll know. : )
Great VALUE
Best Value in the area! Front 9 can play a little slow if it's a busy day. But for $29 it's a steal! Greens were in super shape! fairways in good shape. Tee Boxes were so-so...but again...$29!!! I'd play here any time!
US Open Rough
I've played Bristow 25 or more times. I like it so much, we even had our wedding reception at the Manor.
Tee boxes, fairways and greens are generally in good shape. The ball sits up nicely in the fairways and the greens seem to putt pretty true.
My one complaint has always been the rough. It's way too thick. A decent shot that just misses the fairway results in a lost ball. A slightly off target approach shot into the green, often results in a penalty stroke for a lost ball. Not only is it frustrating, it negatively impacts the pace of play. If I lose a ball into the woods or a hazard, I look around for 30 seconds, max and then drop a ball and take my penalty stroke. If I lose a ball in the rough within a couple yards of the fairway, I'm looking for 3-5 minutes before I drop.
If you want to increase the pace of play, shorten the rough.
Good overall...beware of bunkers as rocks can damage clubs
Experience overall good. Fairways and greens in good conditions. Apart from some patchy spots, fairways in very good condition. Layout is just average…has always been…can’t change that. Biggest problem are the bunkers…it is a shame…there are too many rocks that can be harmful to the clubfaces…not worth the chance of damaging your clubs…about 75% of the bunkers were in this poor condition. Carts are also gasoline powered. But let’s not focus on the negatives…overall experience was good.
This course has a very good layout
Overall condition of the course is very good. The fairways are in very good condition. Missing fairways will penalize you since the secondary roughs are tall - perhaps all it needs is frequent mowing. Too bad other golfers don't take the time to fix ball marks on the greens. The speed and condition of the greens are very good. When compared to other courses in the area, Bristow is not a bad deal.
Great deal
As far as weekend tee times go for the money this is the best deal around. Solid course, reasonable price.
Bristow Manor........aahhhhhhhhhh
Course was in excellent condition as always ! Course staff very cordial!
Slow Play at Bristow Manor
The course is nice, the staff is friendly but pace of play is horrible. I have played there at least 5 times this year and it takes over 5 hours on average to play 18. Today I teed off at 09:11am and we finished at 2:20pm. Management doesn't seem to be bothered by the slow play. The Marshalls do not enforce pace of play. My group called the pro shop twice to report the slow play. Nothing was done to remedy the issue. I had been warned by other golfers that stopped playing Bristow Manor because of slow play. I am now convinced that I should have listened.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
You are a better person than I. At some point I will force the twosomes behind me to match up and be foursomes before I let them thru. If they can still push my group as a foursome, then they can go thru. The courses really need to do their best to pair up smaller group to prevent all the twosomes as best they can.
