From the practice green you can see parts of over half the holes on the front nine. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/15/2017
One of the best courses in the area. Always well kept. Vetu enjoyable.
Best Value Around for the Dollar
Course is worth the scenic drive. Right now course is in great condition and pace of play is always reasonable; never mind the great rates!! I'd def recommend & will be plyn again soon!!
Tough Course, Great Condition
July weather in the DMV area separates the great golf course maintenance crews from the good ones. Hot, humid weather with dry spells and occasional downpours really tests the playability of any course. So it’s this time of year when Bristow Manor GC really shines.
The greens, fairways, and rough are all lush, green, and smooth, with no signs of burnout or overwatering. The day I played the heat index was well over 100 degrees, yet the course played beautifully. The fairway grass was a bit long, but I’d gladly trade that for burnt out areas or soggy spots. The greens here are medium speed, but have enough undulation to be challenging without being frustrating. My only complaint about the conditions is that many of the bunkers were only thinly covered in sand, although there were no rocks or washout gullies in them either.
The layout of the course is quite attractive as well. Some holes have a links style to them with wide fairways and fescue with few trees but there are still plenty of hazards to watch out for and not all of them are easily seen. This course will demand your best game (which I didn’t bring with me this time) or it can leave you a bit frustrated but there’s no gimmicks and you’ll never feel cheated by the course’s design.
The staff did their best to accommodate my desire to tee off early despite having a Hot Now tee time (be ye warned: they want you to go off when you’re scheduled if you get a discounted rate) and kudos to the lady behind the bar who was among the friendliest bartender I’ve met on a golf course or otherwise.
The off-course amenities are pretty good with multiple putting/chipping greens, practice bunker, driving range, and the aforementioned inviting clubhouse restaurant. Pace of play was excellent the day I played due to the extremely hot weather but this course is rarely if ever over-crowded.
Considering I paid just $30 for my round and those rates are available just about every day on GolfNow, I highly recommend this course as a great challenge and a great value.
It was good
It has been little long time I play this course, but it better than most of the golf clubs around my area. I enjoy it. I will be back
Course is in great shape. Greens are excellent. Layout is nice with LOTS of water features. Price was excellent for the value. Only critics are the tee boxes were not level and they could hire a better bathroom maintainance crew but I those are minor flaws and the excellent playing conditions far outweight them. Another plus is the grass driving range.
Rain
It had rained all night and day. We teed off after the rain stopped. The course played like it never rained. It drained extremely well. The greens rolled perfectly. We will play this course again very soon
Tough course if your not in the fairway!
The course was in good shape with the greens exceptional. The rough was very tough! If you don't hit in the fairway off the drive your lucky to find your ball which was frustrating at times. The rough isn't that tall but is difficult to get your club through. If your looking for a challenge this is the course!
Return to Bristow Manor
I returned to play a course that has not been on my radar for several years. Overall, the course was in fair to good shape. Tee boxes were okay, fairways had a few bare spots. Greens were in good shape and true, if somewhat medium slow. This is probably due to the early season and they are ready to be mowed to optimum playing length. Pace of play for the two of us was good - well under four hours. The rough had been cut once but is still US Open length (a common complaint at many courses this time of year). The highlight of my day was the eagle I made at #10. I jarred it from 140 yards out! The only downer - with the green being elevated I did not see it. I will return during the season.
Nice Track
Really enjoyed this round. Not a terribly long course from the black tees - 6300 or so. Fairways were well maintained, and the zoysia grass was nearly greened up for the season. Rough was challenging, though not overgrown. Greens were on the slow side, but immaculately maintained with no brown spots or sand.
The creek that runs through the entire front nine is an interesting obstacle, and ties the holes together. Trees planted alongside fairways were in bloom, and bring strategy and angle of approach into play.
Excellent
This course is always in great shape. The greens are fantastic. The course is challenging and fun. The staff is always friendly and professional.
Great Course
First time playing in 8 months, and should have hit the range first.
Front 9 is good, well laid out, with little crossing of holes, definitely not a postage stamp course. Par 5s could use a little more dog leg and challenges. Par 3s had excellent greens for putting.
Back 9 twice as good as front 9. Liked the 14 thru 17 hole span, challenging and inviting with landing areas and challenging greens.
Good course to play, just warm up first, unlike me. LOL
Enjoyable from tee to green
Great Staff in club house were very talkative and Friendly. Course was in good shape little sandy greens from aeration and slow in Am. They allowed us to walk which was very pleasant in a nice 60-70 morning in April. My complaint would be lay out on par 5s. I'm not a long hitter and ran out of fairway and or into hazard area. It forces a lay up off the tee to be followed with another always making the par 5 a 3 shot hole. The rough is lush and thick. Wedge it out is my advice. Pro shop lacks products. Needed a glove and only had one type, theirs at 20$
Nice track
Nice layout. Course in really nice shape for this time of year. Greens run true and hold well. It would take a while to get bored of this place. Grass driving range is a nice change from most places. Will be coming back
Not bad for February
Better weather than we could hope for in February! Made the effort to get out and play and thought Bristow would be a good choice; zoysia/bermuda fairways were in better than shape than I thought they would be, greens are firm and tough to hold, but it is February! All-in-all, great band for your buck and I am looking forward to even better weather and course conditions as the weather continues to improve!
For mid-Feb course is in nice shape!
We enjoyed our round at Bristow Manor. Course was in good shape for mid-winter, the layout was interesting (except for one section of the back nine where greens, tees, and fairways are too close together so you hear FORE! a lot and balls are coming from all directions), and the pace of play was ok (once we skipped ahead of a slow foursome). The only negative was the attituded of the staff. From the guy taking money in the pro shop to the starter it seemed like they all took grumpy pills that morning.
Course was in great condition for a winter month
Course played well for a winter month. Greens were true and on the fast side and pace of play was excellent for a weekday...friendly staff. Experience was topped off by an ace on the 13th by my playing partner.
Last minute golfers
I arrive at the course check in with the pro shop and was out on the course without incident. Due to the time of the season it was cart path only. We still was able to finished our round under five hours. I like the layout of the course and course was in good condition do to the time of the year. I got a great deal through last minute golfers . I think the course is overpriced and I will only play there by using the golf discount ., Etc.. Last minute golfers or CN
This course was good
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Sorry, but this course has gone down hill considerably over the past couple years. Played on 4/12/17 and the sand traps might as well been filled with cement- no sand in them to speak of. The fairways in the region took a beating last summer but it appears they have done nothing to work on those problem areas. The golf carts do not appear they have been washed in a very long time. All were muddy and filthy. Tthe men's restroom was a disgrace. The pro shop is almost empty. They obviously have cut back on help and if not they need to get some new help there.
