Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Masters
About
The Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club is ideal for golfers who don't feel they are prepared to take on the demanding Legends Course at the club, which has been ranked as one of the toughest courses in North America. The Masters layout is similar to golf courses in Florida, with unique bunkers and scenic ponds that meld perfectly with the rolling hills and wetlands that dot the scenic landscape. Its more traditional layout is considered the kinder and gentler of the two golf courses at Lionhead Golf & Country Club, but there are still a fair amount of challenges. The Masters course requires several long carries over water, particularly on the 16th. This infamous par 5 features a green surrounded by water.

Good all round course that challenges all levels of golfers.
A little less intimidating than Legends, the Masters has something for everyone. Some great views with lots of well placed hazards make an enjoyable afternoon on the course. And some of the nicest staff in the business.
Played in brutal weather but staff made us feel great during our break
Extremely well laid out course. Not so hard that a novice couldn't enjoy them selves but difficult enough for the 20 handy capper.
Drive placement is pretty important but is manageable for someone who has light fade. (shooting right handed)
Greens are fast even in the rain. Bunkers could do with a little work but we played in the rain .... hard to judge this really.
Great time had by all.
VERY CHALLENGING
COURSE IN GOOD CONDITION CONSIDERING THE POOR WEATHER IN APRIL 2013. FRIENDLY STAFF AND GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY.
Course condition was very surprising
Given this is within 1 week of opening (official season starts April 15tH) this course was in excellent condition
Tough but Fair
Played this course for the first time last year, and after hearing how tough it was, was a bit skeptical if I would be up to the challenge. I was...but just barely.
The Masters is arguably harder than the Legends at Lion Head even though the stats say it isn't. Just like Legends, each shot from the tee must be calculated, factoring in the next shot's risk/reward via bunker placements, pin location and it's position on the green etc.... Unlike many other course where you just drive it down the middle, then aim for the green, the Masters requires skill with every club in your bag, consistency and sometimes luck to shoot a low score. I unfortunately did not have many of those things and about halfway through remarked to my partner that it was like I had just started playing golf cause I kept ending up in the bunker or rolling off the greens.
Despite the fact that we got our butts kicked at the Masters we had a great time and it was a fun experience. If you want to play a pristine tough course to test your skill then this is a great place to do it!
When I can find a good price on GolfNow I will definitely be back!
An excellent challenging course !
Great to play such a great course in December!
Course still in very good shape - staff very friendly.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Very Challenging
Even on your best day this course will humble you. From the blues the slope is 139!
Played in the late fall but was pretty good still
Staff not to friendly but do their job
Find them cold
Among the best of courses
Lionhead sets the bar for a great day of golf overall. It may not be as difficult as Legends but the Masters is plenty challenging enough (16th is an terrific and tough hole) and conditions are always great. Not much more to say about the course that hasn't already been raved about.
It was daylight savings the day we played and the staff were amazing to get everyone out in time to finish 18 holes. It's not a cheap round of golf, but I guess it costs for the kind of upkeep and quality this course provides.
very good experience
Course was in great condition, and playing end of November was a bonus. The price to play Lionhead was also a very good deal
lovely view from most tie boxs. well kept course
I have found most high-end/private course staff lack the social skills to provide customers an excellent start to their game
This course offers a variety of holes in its design to present challenges even when it seems benign. The Par 5 island green is a hoot!
Your round will provide the variety and fun that you and your foursome can muse about well after it's over.
pace of place was horrendous
I have called the course to let them know about the pace of play, there was a 2 hole gap on the back 9 that was holding everyone up. we golfed with a marshall from another course and I passed along what they do at his course, would not stop me from coming back.
this review is for the Lionhead Legends course
First we arrive and have the masters booked for the afternoon, we are told they will fit us in somehow. we start our round, cart path only, I have a knee brace on, marshall stops un after the 3rd hole asks how round is going, tell him about knee, he gets a flag so we can go 90% , the only way I would have got the 36 in. wonderful experience.... and the same price as you would pay at some of the ""local tracks""""
Lionhead-Masters
It was a beautiful Fall day in Southern Ontario. The course was being well-maintained despite the heavy downing of Fall leaves all over the course. Beautiful course with many changes of elevation changes and challenging greens. The only caveat was that the Pro Shop would not allow carts on the fairways or even the 90 degree rule from the paved pathways. The course was wet in some areas but that didn't stop the heavy blowing trucks from working on the fairways. There were hardly no issues from speed of play due to golfers taking their time or mismanagement of course play. There were hardly any golfers on the course but this round took 5.5 hours to complete...mainly due to parking cart and having to walk back and forth to find and play shot. If a course wants to protect the fairways, then a GPS controlled cart would have been an asset.
Fall Golf
Had a nice Fall day, Sunday afternoon with a number of slowdowns due to leaves in the fairway etc...course was in good end of the season condition and would rate higher during the summer/late spring....You need to be accurate from the tee or it could be a long day...there are some school buses buried on the greens so you better be on the right side of the flag! Overall good value for $50/w cart....nice track but list price is higher because of GTA, get a deal and then play it....
Great course conditions so late in the year!
I have always loved the layout of Lionhead. You can't just stand on the tee box and know what club to hit, it makes you think. The course is in great shape for mid - late October and the greens were some of the best I've played on all year. I always feel like I'm getting more of a private club experience here and love showing up to see my name on the cart, ready to go.
GREAT COURSE, VERY MATURE, PICTURESQUE, GREAT CONTOURS.
GOLF NOW PRICE WAS INCREDIBLE. $50 I THOUGHT BECAUSE IT WOULD BE FALL RATES, BUT I ASKED REGULAR RATE WAS 100 THAT DAY.
Nice course, a bit on the expensive side
If you want a challenge then this is the course for you.
Great course too slow
Always like this course. A good balance between challenging and playability. Last time were stuck behind some novice players and no sign of marshal to move them along. It was a 5+ hour round.
Appreciate your candid review. Pace of play seems to be a reoccurring theme at this course.
