Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Great location
Great round!
This was a great course to go with a bunch of friends.
Good Times
The course was in great shape, plenty of roll if you stay on the mostly wide fairways, beautiful big greens. Some obstacles (water, high grass) but usually a way out. I prefer Roy Kizer over Jimmy Clay (dame location)
Links golf in texas
Wide open golf course , some fairways need work ... but overall a neat muni
This course was great.
This course was great. Nice layout with challenging hills and bunkers. Not bragging but I birdied the 7th and 8th holes. Hole eight was out of the sand. Ok, so yes I am bragging. Lol had a great day of golf at this nice course! I recommend this course to anyone.
Fast Round
Played in a twosome and course was fairly deserted. We played 18 in less than 3 1/2 hours. Greens were shaggy but putted well. Fairways and boxes in great shape. I enjoy this course.
Getting in better shape
The course was airiated very recently - they greens have pretty much grown over the holes, but they aren't back to a normal cutting schedule yet we played on what appeared to be 2 or 3 day old greens - not the end of the world but not ideal. Should be fine in a few more days.
$5 discount given based on recent maintenance.
Otherwise the course is in very good condition given the extremely hot weather over the past 2 months.
I noticed some of the previously rock-hard bunkers have been tilled and were noticeably more 'fluffy' which was nice.
Greens
As usual the staff was friendly and the course reasonably challenging Fairways were in good shape for the middle of summer . The only negative was that the greens were being seeded and where sandy . It would be nice to know so we might have chosen Jimmy Clay or Pllum
Overall great experience
Course is in great shape overall. Greens were smooth and fairways were well trimmed. We even had an extra ride along last minute causing us to have more carts then we were supposed to but the staff was more than fair/friendly and agreed to let it slide. Will definitely be back
Pleasantly surprised
It was my first round of golf here in Texas since I moved from Southern California 3 weeks ago. This course is in a perfect location between where I work and live, so I have been anxious to give this course a go. The course has a great grass driving range and affordable bucket prices to ensure you're properly warmed up before a round. I had been informed the course experienced fungi on their greens recently and had to re-do several. The greens were obviously recovering, and I have been told have come a long way. They'll keep getting better and once they do this course will be fantastic. It is not a very hard course., but it is fun, it has enough yardage to force you to hit a variety of approach shots. It has some water hazards that also makes things more challenging. The greens are small, and the tucked pin positions make your targets even smaller. Where the layout may not offer big challenges, the small targets make up for it and require your ball striking to be in good form. I really liked the course, and look forward to coming back!
Fun course!
I always like this course.
I have not been here in a while because green was not in good shape.. but it’s recovering nicely.
I will play again .
Greens need attention
Great deal on GolfNow. Course in overall good condition except for the greens. Several had bare, sandy spots. Had to move my ball on one occasion to have a puttable path. Overall though, like I said it was good experience. I will be back. Tomorrow as a matter of fact. another good GolfNow deal!
Should have let us know
Greens were in rough shape. Staff said GA knew. They should have posted and given us a better rate. Not the end of the world, still had fun.
Kizer in great shape
Course is in great shape. Fairways excellent and the rough has grown nicely to add challenge for missing fairways.
Kizer
Greens are chewed up a bit and are pretty shaggy. Still love the course tho
broken hearted
I absolutely love this course ... however I will not be back anytime soon and that is sad. The greens are shot and they used to be some of the best around. I don't know what has happened to the muni courses around Austin but they are all suffering some kind of neglect. It is a shame and whoever is in charge of this needs to be replaced with someone who cares it is not the weather go see Star Ranch it is perfect. Please make Kizer great again we miss it!!!
