Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Bad greens
Greens in horrible shape, fairways were great. At the turn they had no hotdogs or sausage wraps? So I had a taco, bad idea!! I saw the beer cart once on the 2nd hole, that was also the last . Did I say the greens were horrible!
Greens
Greens still bad , but better than my last round. apparently to get them to grow they we cut high so besides the issue with the greens they were very slow and still bumpy.
Great course not so great greens
This was a great course from tee to green. Only once on the greens the conditions were poor. Lots of bald spots and very slow.
Review
I was disappointed very much in the shape of the greens. they were really bad. Fairways good but because of the greens I will not come back and play until they imporove.
Roy Kizer
The fairway was fine. Greens were absolutely horrendous. The joke of the day was that there weren’t any greens. Definitely will pay more for another course before playing here again due to the terrible green quality.
Greens were surprisingly bad
I know what to expect at this course. I've played it a few times. Was disappointed in the greens. They seemed to be in pretty bad shape.
Greens pretty sad
I've played Kizer many times and it's just sad to see the greens in such poor condition. Everything else is really good so it's frustrating. The green fees have gone up but the greens stink and if you don't have good greens it really hampers the enjoyment and the ability to score. I won't be back until I hear definitive word the greens are in at least decent shape
Nice Day to Play
We were the first to tee off in the afternoon after a high school golf tournament. Greens are still trying to come in with the Bermuda, but certainly playable. It's a fun course!
Good Shape
I played on Sunday with my family and we had a great round. The fairways were as good as anywhere in town. In fact, for a daily fee course, they were excellent. The greens, unfortunately, had not fully come in so I would rate course conditions no more than an 8 out of 10 overall.
Cart Path Only Not Necessary
Because of Wednesday’s rain, the course was cart path only. The problem with that was the course was completely dry. I never saw standing water, never saw saturation of the ground. It was ridiculous to not at least change to 90 degrees by 12:00 or 1:00.
Greens very nice right now
Kizer is my 4th favorite layout amongst the munis in Austin but since most of the others have been aerated recently I figured I may as well give it a go (I actually showed up hoping to play Clay but it was too busy). The greens couldn't have putted better. Very nice! One weird thing though was the fringes were overseeded too, so they are pretty long and thick, while the surrounds are a more bare, early-season bermuda. That isn't the case at Lions where they also overseeded. It makes bump and runs tough right now and I had a few of them.
I'm guessing it'll be really warm in a few weeks and greens will transition back to bermuda, and there are no trees out there so shade will be at a minimum. So walk Kizer while you can.
Awesome
Awesome condition and layout from Tee to Green. Going back real soon
