Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Recent Aerification
Aerified and sanded the greens on Monday 6/25/18. Course is in pretty good shape, but GolfNow did not have an aerification notice. Other than that, no complaints. Greens are extremely slow (long grass + sand)
Pleasantly Surprised
I got a Hot Deal from GolfNow to play Roy Kizer on Monday so I jumped on it.
The weather was predicting some chances of rain, but it didn't hold me back. Possibly the threat of rain and it being Monday made the course wide open for play at the time of my tee time.
The fairways and greens were in great shape (compared to next door course, Jimmy Clay) with wide fairways, a goodly amount of water and bunkers to negotiate and make it more challenging, and really good shaped greens that were fairly slow for easier play. Only one green was in poor shape, but the challenge of the hole made up for it.
My only complaint about the course was the marking of distances to the pin. Oh, it had it's requisite markers of 200, 150 and 100 yards on the cart path and on a few holes, but for the most part, I was merely guessing the distance to the pin.
I suppose I'll have to buy a distance spotter.
But, I really was pleased with my outing and will definitely come back again with a friend next time.
Putz in The Pro Shop
I showed up at 12:40 for a 1:12 time in the rain. No one around. A dozen players out on the course. The sour puss in the pro shop tells me that I have to wait to see if his other 1:12 shows up. "I'll call you - just don't leave until you hear from ME." says the big-shot.
All to save a cart. Of course, the other guy doesn't show - the rain is steady now. So I slog around 18 holes in rain growing heavier by the minute. 2 hours 50 minutes. It would sure have been nice to have those extra 32 minutes at the beginning of the round.
Fun course! Easy layout and great sI would love to! I’ll bring a bottle of wine. Rudy’s in Houston he may or may not be back hape . I will go again .
I would love to! I’ll bring a bottle of wine. Rudy’s in Houston he may or may not be back in time but I want to catch up with you guys
Good track good layout in very nice shape but the greens are too slow
Roy Kizer all the time so really good golf course they keep it in good shape but they do not know how to cut greens they are slow!
Fun round, course in nice shape
We had a very enjoyable round. Our green fee was great, being a GolfNow Hot Deal.
Interestingly enough, for 1 pm on a Sunday, there was no one ahead of us, so our pace of play was really good, until the last 2 holes.
The course was in very nice shape. The tees were good, the fairways and rough were very good, and the greens were generally very nice and smooth, with only an occasional bumpy surface.
I've always enjoyed the layout of KIzer (and it's neighbor, Jimmy Clay). It is not particularly hard, but is laid out nicely, in terms of presenting what appear to be daunting water carries. If you just hit a decent shot, however, all is well.
I definitely look forward to going back.
Kizer is a links style course; plenty of room to miss. Greens were in decent shape but many of the tee boxes were in poor condition. Fairways were playable; sand was soft. All and all a good day on the links.
Solid course and value.
Absolutely no issue checking in with the GolfNow.com email and confirmation number. The greens are in very good condition and the course ilooks really good. A bit warm starting at 12:01pm but the pace of play was good and steady. No rushing and no waiting for holes to open up. Overall a great time, course and round.
concessions below average
Holiday weekend and no on course beverage cart. The course was in great shape, greens could be a little faster. I play at this complex weekly and since the city changed vendors, I have stopped using the course concessions due to the over priced poor quality service. Love both courses but will not purchase concessions from this vendor,
Great Course
Course is looking good. The green on a few holes were a little patchy and pace of play was little under 5 hours but sill a great course. Will definitely be back.
Need a sledge hammet
Fairways in excellent condition greens were another story due to recent work they were very bumpy and slot of extra effort to get the ball to the hole overall a great time and highly recommend
Great
Kizer never fails to impress. They airated it a few weeks ago, in another week or two it’ll be perfect greens
Good muni.
Course is in great shape. Kiser and Clay always seem to be in good shape. Great course for the money. Excellent value.
The greens were punched & sanded which was disclosed by Golf. Now ....the ground work was well done & still made the greens put worthy ...
Staff is always cordial
Favorite course
Love this course. Always in great shape. My favorite course in Central Texas.
Great Shape
Course was in excellent shape and greens rolled true. Pace of play was rapid. New practice balls and a big, lush practice tee.
