Roy Kizer Golf Course
About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Great Shape
Course was in excellent shape and greens rolled true. Pace of play was rapid. New practice balls and a big, lush practice tee.
It’s a great course! Wide open fairways with forgiving greens. Great staff and great food! Always a great place to play!
Dog track!!!!
First I want to say the staff is super friendly and the food at the snack bar is really good too. The course was okay and it would be good to get a quick round in. Some of the greens were not in great shape. My biggest problem was the dog owners. I don't have a problem allowing dogs on the course, but there were two tee boxes and one green that had dog poop on it. Come on man!
62 years old gone wild
We were informed that it was going to be a long round..they are all 62 years old at least. We made the turn at 2:40...pitiful...why do they get a pass for being biblically slow?
Always a Pleasure
Course is immaculately appointed. Even a very windy day cannot diminish the natural beauty of this course and its well maintained condition. A marshal would help pace of play for the pokesomes. Roy Kizer is the gem in Austin's crown golf course. Always a pleasure.
Immaculate Greens
This course is protected by the wind and the winds were doing their job blowing at about 30 mph. Offering a challenge.
The greens were rolling great though and this made for a great time.
Greens in GREAT shape!
surprised that there was hardly any anybody out today playing. sun was out a little windy which made it cool, but greens were dry and fast. just looking how well they were maintained during the cold you can see that when everything starts to grow out both courses Kizer and Clay will be in excellent shape. looks like they found the right blend of bermuda just waiting for the spring.
Poor pace of play
The course was in great condition, which may explain the number of people playing. We had to wait on every hole, but thankfully it was a nice day so the wait wasn't so bad.
Kizer is addicting!
I live over 30 miles from Kizer and will bypass many other good courses to play here. It’s one of the very few in Austin area that offer the wide open links intermix of sand and water. Just has a calming effect on your game & mind. Definitely different from the typical Austin live oak fairway layouts. Great opportunity to recover on follow up shots. Plus, the staff is highest on my list in Austin. They are definitely tops out of all the municipal courses. My thanks to y’all!! See you soon.
Before the ice
Woke up on MLK day with the day off. Saw ice coming and cold the next day so got on golf now and found this. Was grouped with 3 gentleman that were a pleasure to spend 4 hours with. Course was in good shape and the greens were in great shape. Could have been a faster round but the group in front probably playing from the wrong tees.
Golf experience
As nice as the golf course was the carts need windshields on them it was a very cold and Misty day we had to cut our round of golf short we left after the 11th hole not to mention for safety reasons all cards should have windshields the staff had when she was on theirs
Absolutely my favorite courses in the Austin area. I love Falconhead but I can play Kizer here for a fraction of the price and, with the water and habitat on Kizer, I think it is a more alluring course.
