Pelham Hills Golf & Country Club
About
Situated just outside of Welland, Pelham Hills Golf & Country Club offers a parkland-style course that is easily accessible from Niagara Falls. With the Niagara Escarpment serving as a backdrop, the golf course has a rolling landscape covered with large ponds, wandering creeks, and towering trees. The Pelham Hills layout features elevated tees and undulating greens that are heavily guarded. In addition to numerous bunkers there is also strategically placed mounding separating the holes. The front nine has a few demanding holes that require long carries over ravines but there are also many birdie opportunities. Pelham Hills Golf & Country Club's back nine tests your drives more than your shot-making skills. The golf course is a formidable challenge but generous fairways make it more player friendly.

Great fall day
Course was in good shape tee boxes flat fairways in good shape most greens in good shape some patches on some great value for money
a big let down
I read raving reviews of this course on their web site and only found all claims to be bogus.
The clubhouse was very nice but that is the only compliment I can give this property.
You have to park in a gravel parking lot then carry your clubs around the back of the clubhouse to the pro shop. There is no bag drop. Upon registering, the fellow in the pro shop tells you " NO CARTS ARE ALLOWED IN THE PARKING LOT".
We bought range balls and went outside and were puzzled as to where the range was. A sign may have helped.
We found the range and practice putting green were very poorly maintained.
After going to the first tee, we could not find the blue tees as they are poorly identified. Signs for tees (especially for hole number 11 were lacking or gave wrong information). The yardage plates were not even near the tees on many holes.
The fairways were a disaster. Weeds outnumbered the blades of grass. Bare patches were everywhere. I know this summer was hard on grass but this was just plain neglect.
We could not find one green that broke as we read them. There were several greens with dead grass from fungus and hydraulic oil leaks. Very frustrating.
The lack of signage was inexcusable. After leaving the 10th green we did not know where to go because a sign to the 11th tee sent us over the bridge to a non existent tee holding up the group behind us who were very vocal about the delay. Some of the signs on the tees were facing the wrong ways, you should be able to read the signs before you get to the tee not look behind. Many of the tees are shared with other holes which is not only a distraction but in some cases potentially dangerous.
There are very few cart paths in decent condition. Potholes and ruts were more prevalent than the wood chips we needed to drive on. Often we had to walk back to the blue tees because you cannot take your cart near the tee.
Overall this course was in bad shape even though there is potential for a nicer course. I was tempted to hop on the bulldozer parked on the last par 3 and make a few changes to the course.
Even the snack bar was a bust. We had very tasty hot dogs but the condiments were still in the fridge somewhere and we had to wait 5 minutes to put the cold relish and mustard on our now cold hot dogs even though it was noon.
I am sad to report this course was not worth the $10 greens fee.
Will not be back
Everything I have to say has already been said, wish I would have read the reviews first. No marshal, the started had to tell a group of four to move out of the way to let the 3 groups waiting to start go ahead. EVERYTHING was as dry as a desert. Although it was a rough summer other courses were able to keep amazing green courses. Needless to say, with the amount of choices in the area, I will not be back.
Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking to improve course conditions and take your comments very seriously. Look forward to having you back soon and making up for this experience.
Course conditions need improving
Have played course multiple times in the past and thought course provided good value. That was until yesterday. While greens were in good shape, with a view exceptions, the fairways were rock hard and in need of repair. That also goes for the rough.
We apologize for your experience and assure you this is not the standards we strive to meet. We are constantly working on course conditions and hope to have you back in the near future.
Worst conditions ever
Would not recommend going here. The conditions are so poor, its like playing on concrete. Half the time you will be hitting out of dirt because the course is so patchy. When the ball lands on the fairway, dust clouds appear because of how dry the course is. The grass on my front lawn is in better condition than this course.

hard fairways
I have played this course approximatley one or two times a year since it was called Highlands. The fairways usually dry out in summer but this summer was harder on the fairways then most. The additional roll was nice but the hard ground made the second shots a little more difficult as it was hard to get under the ball, There was no marshal on the course and we were stuck behind a slow foursome that would not let anyone play through , played the first 5 holes in 25 minutes and took 4 hours to play the last 13. The greens were in good condition and the putts ran true, they were a little hard but gave enough to hold your ball , aside from the slow foursome who showed no golf manners at all I had an enjoyable round because of the nice weather and a lovely couple I joined up with

You would have to pay me to play this course again
Staff are friendly enough, but not enough to make up for the horrendous condition this course is in. Holes 10 and 11 are the goofiest holes you will ever play. There's literally no break in any of the greens (except for when your ball hits a bald spot, which is often). As my title suggests, I wouldn't even play this course again if my round was free. 5 hours (yes, terrible pace of play) wasted.
We are sorry that your round was not what you expected. We are always working on increasing course conditions and take your feedback very seriously. Thank you for coming out to play. -Pelham Hills Management
Wonderful experience
Very friendly, competent reception when checked in. Carts ready/waiting for us. Course was in good shape considering the difficult weather this year. The back nine was actually green ....which means lots of work by course staff.
Didn't spend much time in the club house, but washrooms were clean.
Will definitely be back. Can't beat the prices.
Thank you for a good experience.

Practice Facility Only
After reviewing some recent reviews by fellow Golf Advisers, I decided to visit Pelham Hills to work on my putting.
I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of their putting green. A nearby course has been ravaged by the lack of rain and intense heat, but the practice green at Pelham Hills was healthy, and a pleasure to use.
Although the putting green is small in size, I wouldn't hesitate to return. Thank you Pelham Hills for properly watering your green and ensuring it's alive and well.
To be clear, I only used the putting green and did not golf, so I cannot comment on the condition of the course. But if you want to hit the driving range and then use the putting and chipping greens, I would recommend this place.
Excellent treatment
Second time I've play this course and I would definitely come back. Lots of length from the back tees to challenge me. The gentleman at the proshop is super friendly and accommodating. We had the same wonderful treatment our first time playing this course and that's why I would keep coming back.
Slow play
It was my first time playing here and loved it. Challenging yet fairly forgiving(some holes).Tuff season being as dry as it is. One thing though the greens are burnt and fairways dry and cracked. It would've been nice to see a Marshall to help pick up play . But I look forward to playing there again.
Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoyed the challenge! Look forward to having you back in the near future!
This is a friendly gol course
Needs more watering because of drought we've had. Dry course
Will return to Pelham Hills
One of the best values in the Niagara Peninsula
Fun course and the reception demonstrated
that the folks at Pelham Hills know how to
treat the paying public and have some fun doing so
Given the extreme heat of recent fairways and
greens still in very good shape
Will return to Pelham Hills
Thank you for the review! We're glad you enjoyed your round despite the extreme temperatures. We are looking forward to having you back!
very good course for the $
very good not rushed
due to the weather the course was dry however they seemed to maintain the greens in very good condition will book again for sure
Thank you for the review, Gordan. We are happy to hear you had an enjoyable day with us and look forward to seeing you next time!
a nice course
Pelham Hills is a nice course excellent for beginner to intermediate golfers particularly. The 11th and 15th holes on the back nine are nice looking challenging holes with water on the 11th and a long playing 15th par 5 . I definately recommend the course it's affordable and the staff are very friendly.
Thank you! Those are some of our favorite holes as well. Many of balls have found water on the 11th. We're glad to see you enjoyed the value and we hope to see you back soon!
Greens and bunkers need some work
I've played this course a couple times over the years before at full price (about $60) and have had mixed results. Usually it tends to be very dry and hard. I decided to give it a try again for a cheaper rate with an online deal. It was about 34C when we golfed so it was hot and dry, which is to be expected with little rain lately. Though it made it hard to get a ball to stick on the greens because they were rock hard. On top of that, they did not roll true at all. They were lumpy all over and everyone's putts were taking weird and sudden turns on the greens all day long which was frustrating. It seemed as though they had not been watered or rolled (at least not well) in some time. Tee boxes were nearly impossible to stick a tee in and the bunkers were more like concrete with a layer of dirt sprinkled on top.
It was brutally hot out so we had to try to stay hydrated as best we could. I was disappointed to learn that there is no one serving beverages or food during play on the course so the only time to get those things is before the round or after hole 9. Additionally, there are no bathrooms anywhere besides the clubhouse so if you have to go while playing, too bad!
I would only play this course again after some rain and only for a discounted rate. If you have a weak bladder, or you like purchasing food and beverages while you play, I would recommend golfing somewhere else with better amenities and service.
We appreciate your criticisms GT86golf. We will look to improve in areas that you believe are a concern, but our staff works to ensure every golfers experience is a great one. Please contact us at pelhamhillsgc@outlook.com to discuss your round in greater depth. We will never discount any golfer's opinions, despite how varied they may be, so we hope to have you back for a more enjoyable experience next time.
Shot Makers Dream
Very enjoyable course to play because it is challenging but not unfair to the average course. There are a lot of "risk/reward" type holes. Lots of places where you have to choose to either go for the gusto or lay-up and play it self. Therefore, I would define this as a shot-makers course. It was fun to think about club choice and then challenge yourself to make the shot. Overall, an interesting and enjoyable round.
Thanks Bobby! We're glad you enjoyed yourself and we're pleased to see that you enjoyed the challenges we had to offer. We hope to see you again!
Better Than Expected
I had heard a few years ago, that Pelham was nothing more than a glorified cow pasture. BOY, were they wrong! I began my round with a visit to the Pro Shop where I was welcomed and processed right away. I was happy to see that he addressed me by name, and made sure that I had everything that I needed for the round. I was handed my key to the cart and off I went to get my clubs ready for the round. The course was in surprising shape to what I was expecting. There are some pretty challenging Par 5's on both front and back. I was able to finish the round in under 4 hours and really enjoyed the day. Thanks, and see you again this year.!!!
Thank you for the review! The staff has put in a lot of work over the off-season and we are happy that you appreciate it. We look forward to you coming to see us again!
Worth the money?
Well, let's start by telling you that we paid $11 to playa this course. For that alone, I consider it good value....especially this early in the season. The course has some interesting spots along the way , but, for the most part, is a pretty basic track. The greens have a look that reminds me of watching the Blue Jays play at Tropicana field(blotchy, patchy, etc.) They play true enough, but are mostly flat and uninteresting. The fairways were a little hairy and the rough was, well, rough. I would return again for $11...or maybe $15 in the summer, but, I would not pay much more as there are so many better tracks in the area. The practice area is decent as well. Staff were nice and the club house is quaint. Best of luck on a good season at Pelham Hills!
We appreciate your criticisms FrankRoy. We look to provide a value to our golfers and our staff is constantly looking to improve the course. We hope you'll come back for another round and have a different opinion on course conditions the next time.
Great condition
Brad and the crew have really spruced up the course this year!
The issues on the greens have been fixed, the fairways are great, and many trees have been removed. You can tell the crew worked hard all winter.
The course is in great shape, great job by the Pelham Hills crew!
Chris8631155 - Thank you very much for the 4 star rating! We appreciate you taking the time to write a review and we look forward to seeing you back soon!
