Cardinal Lakes Golf Club - Heron Course
About
The Heron Course is one of two 18-hole courses at Cardinal Lakes Golf Club. It is the club's newer championship layout, designed to complement the original course, the executive-length Sparrow. It is 6,765 yards from the back tees but it feels as though it is considerably longer since many holes play into the prevailing wind. The golf course combines elements of classic links, parkland, and Carolinian courses. The generous fairways are guarded by bunkers and the large, fast greens are gently contoured and surrounded by trees. Water is a prominent feature throughout, coming into play on all but four holes. The layout saved the most challenging for last with its signature 18th hole, a par 3 with a tricky island green.

Pay a bit more and play somewhere else.
First off we had to tee off 35 min after our scheduled tee time due to some stag night tourney.
The course was so wet we had to only drive in the rough. This led to a golf round that took over 4 and a half hours.
Range was also closed so we couldn’t warm up or kill time as we were forced to wait.
Links Style
Fairly open style with a number of water features to keep you honest. Greens were true and in good shape, but you should beware as they were quick with undulations to boot!!
All in all a good place for an outing.
Excellent Course
Had fun but I broke a hundred, upwards that is. :-)
Good value
Course was in good shape considering no rain for weeks. Greens were in great shape. A little slow, but tolerable.
Fast greens
Challenging course, lots of water and sand traps as I found many of them.
Club champioship
Best time of the year to play with club championship coming up. Greens too fast for me but beautiful. Going again soon.
Deceptively Challenging
1st time playing and got Hot Deal. Well worth it. I was surprised by the challenging and some long holes from the blues. Slope rating of 130 is bang on. Green were nice but slow. Will play again and I highly recommend this course and Sparrow course.
Dry. Hidden water hazards.
Very dry. Dusty parking lot so don't wash your car prior to coming. No course layout map on the score card and no hole layout markers on the tee blocks so tough to play without losing balls into hidden ponds. Maybe the Sparrow is better but I won't be rushing to play here any time soon given the many golf options within 20 min of here. Staff was friendly.
