The Golf Club at Mattaponi Springs

The greens of the majority of holes were reminiscent of the face of a pubescent 14 year-old. Everything else was great.

Greens were very nice compared to other nearby courses who had let their course conditions slip, only tiny patches of dead green.

Everything seems very well kept here at Mattaponi. Everyone was very nice as well. No houses is a nice plus with plenty of space between holes. Just feels like a park!

While the Bentgrass greens at most courses in the greater Richmond area have taken a huge hit over the past month or so, Mattaponi Springs greens, minus a few spots on a few greens, were in excellent shape! This, given their Zoysa (perfect lie every time) fairways, along with the tranquil house-free setting, and this is a wonderful course to play! If it wasn’t 55 minutes from me, this could be my go-to.

The course is always a lot of fun to play. The layout is great and offers a very good challenge. The course itself was in very good condition. It did have a few rough spot on the edges of some of the greens but nothing that was going to effect your game.

I like everything about this course! The check-in process is quick and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. The course layout is great. I love playing this course, it's a good test of golf skills.

Nicest public course in the Richmond area. It easily rivals independence.

What a place, just beautiful. The greens had a few spots where foreign grass was noticeable but the greens rolled true. Shame on the golfers that did not repair ball marks. Wonderful experience.

Absolute gem of a course! Worth the 1 hour drive to play and will definitely play many more times!

This course is in the middle of nowhere but well worth the drive. A couple of the greens were rough, but it is the middle of summer in Virginia! Otherwise, the course was immaculate and that zoysia grass is wonderful. The clubhouse and facilities are well kept and you feel like you're playing a private club. Lots of interesting terrain - if you like hills, this course is for you.

Golf courses in Virginia should strive to be more alike Mattaponi. Great facilities and a beautiful club house with friendly staff that makes you feel valued club member. Some greens had issues but that was due to the excessive rain in VA.

Well maintained, with only a few spots on the greens (near high spots and edges) that need attention. You will have more side hill/uphill/downhill lies than most courses. I’m convinced that the only flat lies are the tee boxes. I personally enjoyed the extra challenge.

Great venue ..first and second timers will be lost on a few holes but keep coming back and you’ll get the layout and playing with shorter clubs off some tees will lead to lower scores around MS.

Visisting the area, found this course on Golf Now. Based on the ratings we gave it a try.

Wonderful challenging layout. Very good conditions. They have a Saty and Play option.

We are looking into coming back for a 3 day golf getaway.

Just finished the front 9 when the sky opened up and it started pouring sideways. Went into the clubhouse to ask for a raincheck and they said they “don’t do rain checks. 60 people were standing in there soaked. Worst part was their wifi was out so I couldn’t order or pay for my lunch. I was too hungry so I left and lost money. Great course but terrible staff and policies.

Some club amenities (water mainly) were knocked out due to a storm but staff worked hard to keep the course open. Overall condition was very good. There were a few small bare spots on a couple of greens but mostly out by the fringe and didn’t hurt our putting. Layout is tricky and challenging but there are gettable holes. Not a fan of the few blind shots but that happens on a mountain course. Worth the drive if you are looking for something different and fun.
