SaddleBrooke Ranch Golf Club
About
Located in the North Tucson area, SaddleBrook Ranch Golf Club borders the Santa Catalina Mountains. The course meanders through the high Sonoran desert, incorporating natural washes into the design and providing stunning mountain views from almost every hole. Abundant desert flora and fauna further enhance the rugged, gently rolling terrain. The golf course offers a mix of challenging holes and player-friendly features, resulting in a layout with several interesting risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to low and high handicappers equally. The player-friendly fairways are generous, allowing beginners to feel comfortable with ample room off the tees and rewarding thoughtful play. There are also carefully placed mounds, hollows, and bunkers along the large, receptive greens that provide opportunities to recover an errant shot. The golf course is made even more versatile with five different sets of tees.

Poor condition
Have played this course several times. There is always at least one hole closed and one par 5 that has been shortened to a par 3 because of fairway issues. The practice putting green is always closed or in poor condition. I understand the COVID issues but even in normal conditions there are no amenities on this course. Pace of play is slow usually and nobody lets you play through. Typically the greens are in great shape but around the greens the grass is patchy at best.
No notification
I like this course.
However there are too many communication breakdowns in the management of this course.
This time there was no advance notice that the back 9 holes were closed. Also #7 on front 9 was shut down.
Will probably keep this on my list to play, but will definitely call for update before making a tee time.
A good start to better promote this course would be to replace the Superintendent of this course.
Good Track, Needs Work
Saddlebrooke Ranch has been a solid course for many years. Biut has become a course in need of maintenance. Fairways had bare spots, green collars were dirt and greens spotty.
Thin fairways and entire 9 holes closed without notice at time of booking
Course is in a very stressed condition with fairways with limited turf.
Good track, overall worth it
Worth it for $25. Layout overall is open with a couple tighter fairways here and there but even the desert miss can be found since it’s short brush in many areas. Both front/back are open, however, #10 (Par 5) is under serious repair and is only playable from about 120yards in (temporary tees are set up and it plays as a par 3). Other than that, fairways are a bit drier than most courses but playable. Greens are in decent shape and roll pretty well. Played in 3h:40m with a couple groups in front of us (slowed down on the last few holes).
Affordable Course in Great Shape
They only have the front nine open so you play it twice but we’ll worth the money. They keep the course soft and it is pretty forgiving for high amateurs.
Windy but FUN!
The aerated greens have come back and were rolling nicely. In another week they'll be back to near perfect condition. Course is starting to dry out in places which is to be expected in the Arizona desert! Really windy day as the course is quite exposed but makes for some challenges. Pace of play was right at 4 hours.
Very poor fairway conditions
For a proclaimed professional Golf course, this course needs a lot of work. Greens and tees are in good shape . Two or three years of good care needed to bring it up to where it should be.
NEED FAIRWAYS WORK
This has been one of my favorite courses for a long time. But I am presently bothered by the shape the course is in. However, there are a number of fairways that are in very rough shape with thin grass in many areas. The 9th and 10th in particular. Also the 4th. The fairway grass also is cut too short. Greens are in fairly good shape.
Good round!
Course is getting a lot of work but still in good condition. Well- watered as always. Pace of play was fast and uncrowned.
Not hardly
The practice green has been shut down for over a month. The back nine was out of play today
There is one place to get water on the front.nine without disposable cups
This place does nothing for the CUSTOMER above what is absolutely necessary
Summer Conditions
A bit burnt, but compared to others this time of year, better than most. Pre-monsoon courses show browning, here too. Greens slow, plugged a week ago and sanded, but playable. They hold well, putt OK with some force added.
COVID enforcements but not overdone. Overall like this course for it’s routing, openness, high desert temperatures and some attention to detail. Will return as good value and experience.
First Time, Last Time
I was looking forward to playing my scheduled time at Saddlebrooke Ranch for the first time. I had heard lots of great things about the course and it's friendly players and staff as it's a golf community. I was lied to. I knew that booking a solo play I'd likely be grouped in with others. The "others" I was grouped into were very disrespectful and told me they already had a foursome and played anyways. When I asked at the next hole after assuming they were the group in front of me if they were the 1120, they said yes but play ahead of us because we are full. There was a group ahead already and the group after my original time was extremely pushy about me playing with my correct tee time group despite what I told them. I went back to the proshop to let the staff know about this issue since my golf time was obviously not important to players who added additional players on and I felt this was extremely unfair to a paying guest. At the proshop, I was not offered any sort of apologies or alternatives and had to settle for a refund, minus my range bucket fee because I had already used that to prepare for my tee time. For a game that has a culture of upstanding compassion and sportsmanship, this course's staff and players I encountered held neither of those factors. I would never recommend this to anyone not in a group since you are clearly just a source of revenue and not valued as a potential returning guest.
