#5 approach shot. Cool shot with the mountain in the background. Photo submitted by ryantjeerdsma on 09/24/2013
Rates 5 stars without the power lines
Great layout, Excellent turf and greens, 31/2 hours on Sat. morning and the best staff I can remember.
Only the power lines above diminish the overall experience. We'll definitely play again.
Winter Golf
Course in great shape, and fun to play. Too many power poles around.
Very enjoyable
Nice secluded facility with very freindly and helpful staff. The course was in excellent condition and well maintained. We were paired with another twosome and really enjoyed our experience on this course. Highly recommended.
Hidden Treasure
Have played here many times now with new owners the course has become a even more enjoyable time.New club house is first class and the staff is great.
Awesome course
Great course to play - I have played all over the valley, and this is one of the best I have played. The electrical towers were not an issue.
Great under the radar course
First visit to the course and ultimately played 2, 18-hole rounds that day. The club house is in excellent condition having been refurbished in the past 2 years. The pro-shop is well equipped and quality of food & drink very good - you could rendezvous with family / friends after a round quite nicely.
The practice green is indicative of the putting challenge - which is quite complex. My father is a lifelong golfer with a low-teens handicap and he struggled with the greens.
Still, the course is fun and at the current price point (below $100/round) worth including on a Scottsdale itinerary.
We played a second round after stopping for lunch and pace of play was a lot slower. A lot of larger groups of older golfers slowed things down and had to push to complete our round in twilight - so if you have a tight itinerary - go out early as a priority.
Over rated
Charge for range balls puts this into lower class of courses.
Did not have enough golf carts for all golfers-how can you run a golf course and not know the number of carts you need?
Great scenery if you like power lines.
Only play this course if you get a decent price.
Where's the marshall?
We were late starting and the starter encourage us to stay close to the group in front. We didn't see a marshall after the front nine and it was very slow. The cart girl had no sandwiches, only chips and nuts. Otherwise the golf was good and the course in good shape
this a very good challenge course
we appreciate this course and will be back next year
McDowell Mountain - Go Play!
Great pace of play for a warm pre-holiday round. Got paired with a fun twosome from Canada who had never played the course before.
The course was in wonderful condition, the staff was friendly, and well worth the greens fees! A challenging layout with links-type desert feel.
SLOW play, and poor customer relations.
Outside staff was extremely inattentive, leaving my bag at the bag drop for over 15 minutes until I asked them where my clubs were. Then, they did not have carts available. Then, they blamed Golf Now for overbooking them, and thus I was delayed 40 minutes from my tee time (the people I got paired with were delayed over an hour from their tee time.) They had the nerve to blame the delay on frost, it was in the mid 40s and NO frost. Claimed each nine would be played in 2 hours, what a joke, took 5 hours to play. I have booked with Golf Now many times, and have never had any booking problems, yet their staff blames their problems on Golf Now.
Great Course, I would play it again.
Course is in great shape, greens are true but a bit beat up but still nice too putt on. The course design is fantastic but the only distraction is the the power lines that run through the course, but worth $70
Fair golf course not hard from the regular tees
Average golf course for the money but you have to pay for the range balls. most courses that we played give you range balls to hit.
I will not play this course again because of the extra cost for range balls.
THE COURSE WAS CHALLENGING AND FUN TO PLAY
THE WEATHER WAS GREAT AND THE COURSE WAS CHALLENGING.
THE COURSE NEEDS TO HAVE A BOOK TO SHOW YOU THE HOLES BECAUSE SOME ARE HARD TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO HIT.
This course played long due to recent overseeding.
I played the blue tees and found it too much with my driving. Moved to the white tees and had a lot more fun.
Play it forward !!!! Don't let your ego ruin a great round of golf.
Comparable to some municipal courses
Booked high dollar tee time for visiting guests, making sure there were no restrictions on course after overseeding. The day before play I find they are in fact "cartpath only". I used a Rewards benefit so I couldn't get anything back and cancel. First course I've played costing over $100 that doesn't include range balls. First course I've played where marshall hounded us to speed up play because "members" behind us were calling and complaining #we played front nine in under 2 hours#, only to run into groups on back nine that had us waiting on every shot. Bunkers had more rocks in them than most munis. All in all a very disappointing experience that guarantees we will not return.
Good value for a Scottsdale course
A good value for a Scottsdale course. Friendly staff greet you at the bag drop. The course was well maintained. Lunch at the grill after was good. Once again friendly staff making the whole experience enjoyable.
Nice course, rocks in some bunkers. for the price it should be in better condition
Course is in good condition considering it's just back from over seeding. Bunkers could be in better condition with more sand and less dirt. Some bunkers had rocks in them. Pace of play was good considering it was cart path only. Club house is very nice with good food. Cost to play seems a little high for this course.
Nice course
Given recent overseeding, course was in good shape. Pace of play was ridiculous. Marshall set expectations, that we were to be finished in four hours. This marshal was long gone when we finished in just under five hours.
