Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Golf cart problem
Golf cart wasn’t work during we were playing. I asked change cart but they didn’t. We had a very hard time.
Awesome
Great course. Great layout. Greens were in great condition. Overall good pace of play until the back 9, got backed up a little bit. Only negative on back 9 the coolers were all empty and our whole group ended the round feeling like Spongebob when he needed the water!!!!
Awesome course. Don’t miss out
Great course but was packed.
Had to combine groups to finish last 2 holes before it was completely dark. Had a pair of guys 3 groups in front of me not let anyone play through and made the back 9 take twice as long as the front. it usually takes me 2 hours to play a round and this round was barely finished in 4. Most of that being on the back nine.
Great track but no amenities
Great track but no amenities . That’s right.. NO CART GIRL. It was 104 Fahrenheit outside and all but one water jug had water in it. So for 18 holes we had no way of hydrating. I’m surprised nobody has had a heat stroke yet!
Highly recommend
I do not think that staffs are changing pin positions everyday because edges of hole cups were not sharp. Irons only at the driving range. But I highly recommend the lake course- challenging. layout, as well as beautiful. Prepare beat-up balls. and sharp your iron shorts. If you pay $40 on GN, it is greatly worth for money.
Fun outing
Played Lakes course early morning- thank goodness because it was hot. Staff friendly. Was told that greens were punched three days ago- not too bad, a necessary evil and reality. Starter friendly and very helpful. Pace of play was very good and greens were not too bad. Some areas of fairways and roughs overwatered and muddy. Very good round overall- glad finished before heat of day really kicked in. Will definitely return when visiting my daughters again in future.
Great course to play in a hot summer day
I like the fact that there are trees and shades in most of the cart paths. It helped very much play and enjoy a round during a very hot day. Fairways were fair. Greens were Ok. Some fairways were hard and I had to be cautious about the distance the ball rolling.
