Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

A course that has gone down hill
THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE STAFF THEY ARE GREAT!! I have played this course for the last 6 years and up until this year it has been a good course. This season the Garland Parks department has cut funding and the Old and Lakes courses have paid the price. Grass is growing into the unmaintained sand traps. The fairways are lacking and bare in many places. The carts are beat up and need to be replaced the putting green has more dirt than grass. The practice area needs to be reseeded and allowed to grow back. It’s so sad it was a great course but the way it is now I won’t be back. Like I said in the beginning this is not a reflection of the staff some of the people in the pro shop have been there for years and have always been professional and kind. Employees like this should be rewarded because they are hard to find and keep. In closing the Garland Parks Dept needs to increase the budget for the Old and Lakes courses and hire enough quality people to maintain all three courses.
This course was pretty good to play on
This course has a great layout and definitely get your money’s worth. I just wish the golf carts had GPS on them. Other than that it was great experience. First time golfing here and course was great. Hole #10 on the Lakes Course is currently under construction but management has done a great job to setup a detour
Great Greens
The greens are great. Because of all the ponds and creeks, choose the right tees and go for the widest part of the fairway and the middle off the green.
what a day!
course is in superb condition, great greens, great fairways, led to an eagle on #9!
One of my favorites
The course condition becomes very nice to play. The green is not too fast nor slow. Fairways are great. The only thing is a construction on no. 10 but that's a long overdue. I had a fun and hope to play here more often.
I didn't want to play Firewheel.
I did not want to play the course, but I tell you what I am sure happy I did. From the driving range, to the practice greens, to the pitching areas which are phenomenal. Then to get out there and play the course, the fairways are in wonderful shape. Me my son and two friends played the course today, it was super hot out and every area that had water containers were full and had ice and cups. The greens are in wonderful condition I could see a little bit more water on them but they are good and fast. I can't wait to come back and play again.
Great Course!!!
I’ve only been playing since Covid and I love this course easily one of my favorites in the DFW
The Lakes Golf Course
My only problem was no cart girl. It’s Friday and busy. And the day is hot. What’s up with no refreshments on the course?
Nice course but needs a marshal
Great course for the money for sure. Greens and Fairways kept better than some courses that costs 2 times more. The staff are very friendly. I only have couple of negatives. 1) a group ahead of us were playing extremely slow and had 3 entire holes open in front of them but there was no marshal available. Ended up playing a 5 hr 15 min round when it should have been 4.5 hours at most. 2) no beverage cart service
Rocks everywhere
Tee boxes are trash. Pebbles/rocks all over the course in very close proximity to fairways and greens. If you want to destroy your clubs because you’re 5 yards off the green or fairway then this is your course. Fairways and greens are in good shape but that’s it. Seriously why would you have small rocks in spots not needed for drainage.
Windy Texas round.
Sustained winds 25-28 mph, frequent gusts of 35-40 mph round. Two brides with one hole out of bunker, up and down seven times one double bogey …Thank you Golf Now for the value. I always recommend your site, especially my clients/ friends…!
