Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

course conditions
played for the first time in several months. the area has had a lot of rain lately and it looks like the course was flooded. I always rave about the bunkers and the condition when I talk about the lakes course but not on this visit. the bunkers were all full of debris and had not been raked. I know they are trying to recover but they had not been touched at all even after several days of dry conditions. same goes for the rough. I you hit a shot just off the fairway the ball disappeared.
I would hope they recover soon so you might ask the pro shop when you book your tee time.
I had a great hot deal rate but if I had paid full price I would have been more upset.
Thought course if never played
Course has tight fairways. No gps in carts and very little markers on the course. I'd like to see more markers on the tee boxes because the cards weren't close.
Enjoy the courses at Firewheel
Had a physical problem, had to leave after 9 holes!
Lakes at FIREWHEEL
Great challenge and much fun. If only they had GPS. Distances on some par 3 holes from tee box markers is way off.
$25 Green Fee...Not Worth More
First time playing the course and I left underwhelmed. The fairways were terrible beyond just tight lies, it was like hitting off dirt in the middle of the fairway. I found the over growth and non-mowed areas all around the course to be less appealing. Hole 10 par 4 is almost unfair playing from the tips, it forces you to hit a perfect shot with the driver over a creek and in between tree lines. If you choose to layup at 225 yds, you still have 250 yds into the green. However, greens overall were ok, most of them had good pace and rolled smooth.
Old Course
This is the easiest of the three fire wheel courses. Its in good shape for the time of year. Will play here again.
Nice course if the weather was better
Played 18 holes in miserable, sloppy conditions. The course drained decently, but there was standing water in places. The greens played pretty well, however, which was nice.
Bunkers were outstanding, even with the wet weather.
Pace of play was pretty good. However, one group of four rude folks were holding up several groups with slow play, and didn't allow anyone (singles, twosomes) to play through, which was disappointing.
Good course, great value for the price!!
The course was in good condition. the pace of play was excellent and the value for the price was excellent!!
Lakes Course
Sand traps are in top condition, as well as the greens. Some of the tee boxes need some attention. Overall the course is somewhat challenging with the water and sand trap placement.
Wet conditions
Played in a light to steady rain entire 18 holes. Course held up well & played in 4+ hrs cart path only
Great Value
The course was in very good condition. Wasn't the easiest course I've ever played. I played the Lakes course, and there were some pretty easy holes, but there were also some really tough ones that were made even more difficult because of the colder, windy conditons that were out there that day. It's definitely a course that I would like to play again one day.
Very Slow Play
I really like playing the Lakes course because its challenging, however, every time I play it ... The play is so slow .. I can never finish 18 holes
firewhhel lakes course
IT WAS A GREAT DAY IN JANUARY WITH TEMPERATURE OF 80 DEGREES.cOURSE WAS IN GOOD SHAPE with some challenging holes once the wind picked up...My son and I had a great day!!!
Lakes course
Fantastic layout. Lots of great, difficult doglegs. GPS is needed. Will certainly play many more times.
A day on the Lakes
This is the second time I have played the Lakes. I played with my brother we had a great time the course was in very good shape, and the pace of play was very good.
Good course for 20-30 bucks
Had a good time, played with a 3some of older guys. Two were nice, the other was a grumpy old man that was having a bad round and wanted to complain the entire time. There was lots of fog on the front 9 but it was a pretty course. I would recommend but probably not until the grass starts coming in. Greens were in very good shape for winter
Beautiful and challenging
This is a great course for a good challenge. Well kept greens and beautiful scenery. Just have to watch out for rude players behind you! It was hard to relax enough to get part or under because the people behind us were pushing.
Good course
The course is nicely maintained. There a few holes with water on both sides of the fairway. The pace of play was well managed. I really enjoyed the round.

This course has it all: woods, water, sand, high rough. The Golf "gods" will take one if given the opportunity.
satisfied
Was delighted at the conditions and speeds of the greens. Young lady at pro shop check - in was professional and courteous.
