Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

This course is very challenging
I love the layout...it has great bunkers wide open fairways nice soft greens, it's a beautiful
course and I will play it again for the price I pay on Tuesday
Thanks,
Kevin
Decent
It's a tough course I admit but the bunkers could've been better greens had a lot of debris on them. Overall it was decent but needs some work
They have let the course go to he..
Greens had not been mowed today so they were extremely slow and bumpy. Most sand traps had no sand and were grown over with weeds. No monitoring of pace of play. We played at a rate of 20 minutes per hole so my friend and I had to quit after 13 holes because we were over 4 hours into the round and had to go to work. I would not recommend this course to anyone.
Firewheel lakes
Course was in pretty bad shape this time out. Fairways were like hitting out of the rough and the rough might as well have been OB. On a course that's alread pretty tight it made for frustrating day. Whole group had a lot of shots that seemed playable only to never find the ball. I understand that it's the middle of summer so the grass needs to be kept a little longer, but this was like hitting out of the bush. Number 10 is still the hardest hole in dallas a lot of fun to play.
Aeration
Course was fine considerering the recent floods. Traps are still a work in progress. However the ones that were repaired were in great shape.
I was pretty upset that the greens were just punched last week ... Makes for a pointless round if you cannot putt.
Horrible conditions
Bunkers unplayable. Greens recently airrated. The $42 price was overpriced for condition of course
Thick Rough
Wish they would mow the grass. Lost a bunch of balls that should have been playable but couldn't find them in the thick rough. Overall greens should be in good condition in another week since they were just punched recently.
Nice course
I've played the Bridges Course several times, but this was my first time playing this course. The fairways were cut low, course was in nice shape, and the greens were soft and fast. I'm a 6 hcp and I shot 77 from blue to give you an idea of the difficulty.
My only complaint was pace of play, a lack of marshalls, and the cart girl came around once in nearly 5 hours. Also, some of the holes are so close together that there is often an issue with people hitting into you.
Good, could be better !!
Bring a lot of balls. They aren't cutting the roughs short enough and you will lose a lot, a lot of balls!! Wasn't that way 1 or 2 years ago. If you can always keep it in the fairway, ok, otherwise expect problems.
The grill ain;t as good as it used to be !!
Handled heavy rain well
Played less than 8 hours after a heavy rain storm and was impressed with the course condition - a few soggy low-lying areas but in general not as bad as expected.
Great and Challenging Course
This was a great course and would highly recommend it. However, my only complaint is the grass outside of the fairway was somewhat high and thick and VERY difficult finding you ball. We lost MANY balls due to not being able to locate our balls and spend quiet a bit of time looking for them as well. That was a complaint by many other golfers having the same problem. Otherwise, great time!
course conditions
played for the first time in several months. the area has had a lot of rain lately and it looks like the course was flooded. I always rave about the bunkers and the condition when I talk about the lakes course but not on this visit. the bunkers were all full of debris and had not been raked. I know they are trying to recover but they had not been touched at all even after several days of dry conditions. same goes for the rough. I you hit a shot just off the fairway the ball disappeared.
I would hope they recover soon so you might ask the pro shop when you book your tee time.
I had a great hot deal rate but if I had paid full price I would have been more upset.
Thought course if never played
Course has tight fairways. No gps in carts and very little markers on the course. I'd like to see more markers on the tee boxes because the cards weren't close.
Enjoy the courses at Firewheel
Had a physical problem, had to leave after 9 holes!
Lakes at FIREWHEEL
Great challenge and much fun. If only they had GPS. Distances on some par 3 holes from tee box markers is way off.
$25 Green Fee...Not Worth More
First time playing the course and I left underwhelmed. The fairways were terrible beyond just tight lies, it was like hitting off dirt in the middle of the fairway. I found the over growth and non-mowed areas all around the course to be less appealing. Hole 10 par 4 is almost unfair playing from the tips, it forces you to hit a perfect shot with the driver over a creek and in between tree lines. If you choose to layup at 225 yds, you still have 250 yds into the green. However, greens overall were ok, most of them had good pace and rolled smooth.
Old Course
This is the easiest of the three fire wheel courses. Its in good shape for the time of year. Will play here again.
Nice course if the weather was better
Played 18 holes in miserable, sloppy conditions. The course drained decently, but there was standing water in places. The greens played pretty well, however, which was nice.
Bunkers were outstanding, even with the wet weather.
Pace of play was pretty good. However, one group of four rude folks were holding up several groups with slow play, and didn't allow anyone (singles, twosomes) to play through, which was disappointing.
Good course, great value for the price!!
The course was in good condition. the pace of play was excellent and the value for the price was excellent!!
Lakes Course
Sand traps are in top condition, as well as the greens. Some of the tee boxes need some attention. Overall the course is somewhat challenging with the water and sand trap placement.
