About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Greens are slow and furry
This course is abused. It gets a ton of play but the greens have been neglected and are extremely slow on a stemp I would say a 6 at max. There are spots on the greens where it’s dead. The fairway bunkers have weeds growing in them. The city of Garland has let this course go. They put all their money into the Lakes and Bridges course but the old course is just the forgotten step child. I won’t go back until these things are fixed. If it’s the only place you can find to play I guess go but look real hard before you drop $60 to play here

Really good course compared to what I’m used to in West Texas.
SLOW greens and bumpy tee boxes
The greens were so slow, that it really started getting to our entire group. It was reallly hard to judge how far a ball would roll out from off the green, or how far it would go when putting. It was never consistent green to green. Also, they had new sod on a lot of tee boxes and it was very bumpy. So it was hard to get a solid flat stance with both feet.
1st timer
Play a friday after work 3pm tee time, was my first time here and was a very fun time. Wasnt too busy at that hour so we had a nice easy relaxing game. Challenging and fun! Definitely recommend playing.
Good track for the $
Nice course. Greens were beat. Everything else was in good shape.

Booked on Sorry as crap Golf Now did not include a golf cart! Was not clear when booking!
No drink cart for Walking only course. Overall good shape especially for $20
No drink cart seen in 18 holes. Common sense to have a drink cart on a WALKING only course especially on a hot summer day.
