Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

A fun day, not crowded, great pace, greens nice; good speed for this time of year.
Plenty of grass on fairways
A few hard pan areas where grass did not grow because of overhanging limbs( move ball to grass)

Awesome. I found a “hot deal.” Amazing bang for the buck.
Quick & Easy
Anytime you can play 18 in 2hrs 20minutes as a single, there's not much to complain about. Greens were aerated and sandy. But rate was good so didn't mind too much. I do wish folks would publish that sort of info though.
Old course
The course was beautiful and enjoyable. The only beef I have is that they didn’t say they air rated and sanded the greens which made putting difficult. I would love to golf the course again with the greens in better shape. Got a great price on golfnow.
overall enjoyable
Nice course layout. Greens in good shape but a bit slow. Some fairways very crusty and not much grass. Hope this improves after all the rain we have had. Staff very friendly and accommodating but clubhouse for the Old Course a bit old and could use some update. We did have a good time.
Good Time
It was an enjoyable time. My buddy and I had a blast. We were paired with two slow players, but once we split from them, it was golden. I appreciate the nice staff. Great value. Thanks.
Good golf day
Enjoyed playing Firewheel Old Course. Usual Spring conditions with fairways not grown in but the greens were pretty nice. Overall in pretty good shape considering all the rain. Will definitely play here again.
Fairways Need Seeding
The fairways need seeding. Grass is sparse in the fairways. Greens were ok, but not great. Pace of play was great. Surprised there were not more players on the course.
Friday outing
Paying $20 is Worth the cost. The greens where in good shape but no grass on the fairways. We were having to play winter rules on about every hole. They need to do a better job with the fairways for sure.
Great Value
Good track. Great price, especially after 2pm. Fairly easy layout.
Great pace of play
Signed up for “hot deal” on golf now. We had a friend that walked up with us and paid half price at course. Awesome for him, but it stung a little for us who got “hot deal” price. Overall course was nice. Good greens even though it’s still early in the season.
Poor Course Conditions
This was the first time playing this course in about 3 years. Course was in terrible condition. Really disappointing.
