Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Great time
Great time and great round. Shot 84 first round at Firewheel. I will for sure be back.
Tough Greens
Most greens were really tough, with difficult cup placements. Not sure why staff is upset with the golfers as they actually keep the courses operating. Placing a cup on a slope is just horrible, lol. Greens were super-fast, and the course was in good shape.

Needs Work
The Old Course at Firewheel needs work. Fairways are trash compared to there other 2 courses. The Lakes and Bridges Course are worth playing but would stay away from The Old Course. THE only thing positive is that the greens are good.
Decent Shape
Decent shape for the time of year in Dallas area and the number of rounds the course gets daily.
Good value
I did the Golf Now hot deal, so the price was great for the condition of the course. The fairway aren't bald like many municipal courses and the greens were actually quick and true. The carts are in good condition with GPS. We waited on a few holes, but pace of play wasn't bad. There was cold water at the water stands, and the cart girl made it by several times. Overall no complaints.
BEST BANG FOR BUCK
I can not recommend this course enough. I have been playing in the DFW area for about 10 years now, and this is the best bang for your buck of a course you can get. Pricing is amazing for this area, course is quality, and customer service is great. This is one of the most laid back, but professionally run courses I have ever played. Will be making this my home course.
Nice Sunday Round
We teed off just after 8a which was great because it was going to be a hot day. Finished just after noon. Fun day!
Great muni
Course was in good shape. Like most munis in summer there we spots that needed help, but its as good as any municipal course in the area.
