Old at Firewheel Golf Park
About
Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

Great course
Relatively new to golf still. This course was great! Had some challenging holes, but overall a great for weekend golfers.
Best Value in DFW
For $45 on a weekend afternoon, you can’t beat this and the other Firewheel courses. Always in good enough shape, a fun layout, and they tend to keep pace up pretty well here.
I hope this review doesn't make it harder to get a tee time.
The old course is a fun and challenging round that encourages you to go for that shot you've pictured in your head a million times. The conditions are fantastic. The course drains very well and hasn't had any standing water during any of the rounds I've played, including a round I played in the rain. I play from the Blues and feel that distance offers challenging yet achievable shots that make for an exciting and enjoyable round of golf.
M U D
Played this course literally 100 times over the yrs. MUD in places you would never think mud would be. In my headcovers, cart wouldn't steer for all the mud on the tires. Worm holes, WOW, almost completely covered the fairways, tee boxes(no grass) but covered in mud.
Moved the ball around to avoid golf ball completely covered in mud. Shot 75 from the white tees, decent player here but will not go back, maybe dries out this summer, maybe
Good for the money
For the price , it’s a fun course, good layout , staff is great , laid back and relaxed. Fairways have a lot bare spots , greens are in good condition . But for what you are paying , worth it !
Avoid Firewheel Old Course
Course waa in horrible condition. Green sanded and wouldn't hold anything. Tee boxes that were all dirt. Fairways had little grass. Very disappointed. Not certain if I'll return this year.
Fun Course
It’s a fun course.,My only complaint was the condition of the fairways. In horrible condition
Sad
If you like dirt and sand in the fairway and on the tee boxes then this is the place for you. Used to be a good course many years ago. Looks like most of the upkeep goes to Lakes or Bridges. Not sure why greens fees are the same for this course. Should be half what we paid.
Great history, but lacking presently
Greens reasonable for the winter. Fairways were horrible. Many without any grass at all. Have to master hard pan off dirt approach shots. Clubhouse under construction.
Entirely too dry
It has been many years since I last played this course and it may have been that long since it was watered. The fairways were so hard and dry that it was no benefit to hit into them. Not interested in playing it again anytime soon.
