Legacy Hills Golf Club
About
Legacy Hills Golf Club opened in fall 1996 and immediately gained the respect of the central Texas golf community. Designed by Greg Cash and Billy Casper, the course blends in beautifully with the natural terrain, featuring rolling hills, old oak trees, ravines, and numerous elevation changes, both in the fairway and on the greens.
Berry Creek runs through the layout, and is integral to the signature par-5 18th hole, where you'll have two options off the tee. One side offers the more conservative lay-up, while the other option involves clearing the creek but gives you the chance to get home in two on this 520-yard hole. Fairway bunkers loom ominously, and the long green is extremely prone to a three-jack.
Before you get to that one, though, two par 3s stand out on each side. No. 4 plays 171 yards into a pond and a rock-guarded, three-tiered green. No. 16 goes 216 yards into another multi-level green guarded by water and sand on the right.
Legacy Hills Golf Club's ninth hole rivals the 18th as the signature -- it plays 357 yards uphill, with a creek along the left and fairway bunkers waiting for your tee shot. The approach involves a waterfall, but it's actually more scenic that it is difficult since a good drive leaves you with a short iron in.

legacy hills
Course needed some green work slow moving groups not move able would not let you play through seen no Marshall on course three coke machines water cans could use a couple more on the tee boxes. Had a enjoyable round with friends rough plenty of water with us.
Excellent course for all abilities
Well layed out course that offers makeable shots to the high handicap golfer and risk/reward opportunities to the longer/more accurate hitters. Very well groomed greens, bunkers and fairways. Adding this one to my favorites list.
Nothing to Like
If you want to pay money to have the staff treat you poorly, argue with you, then yell at you, then this is the place to play!
When the tee time was purchased it said it included range balls but when I arrived, Bob the pro shop manager told me it did not. When I showed him on the website that balls were included, he sternly said it did not. Again, I said that balls had already been purchased to which he then yelled at me and said "golfnow knows that's not true! If you want balls you will have to pay for them."
Following that, when we got on the course the greens were absolutely horrific. About seven of the eighteen greens had been roped off on the corners because of the extensive damage done to them.
Also while on the course, the pace of play was well over five hours. This was because the course had, in succession, a single/twosome/single/twosome/twosome/single/twosome instead of pairing them together on a Friday afternoon. In addition to that, the members who were playing out there behind us had no problem pulling all of the way up to the tee box while we were teeing off. Each time the following group pulled up within five feet of our cart, sometimes while I was standing over the ball preparing to tee off.
I have zero intentions of ever returning to this golf course and would highly discourage anyone else from doing the same.
The worst greens in central Texas
Picture the worst muni you have ever played and multiply it by two that is how bad these greens are. Bumpy bold spots you name it. NOT worth twenty dollars they should close it for a while and work on the greens.
Good value for the local golfers.
I see reviews from previous month about sandy greens, and some of the greens were still sandy now. Not sure why, but greatly affected the putting, especially on the front nine.. Other than green conditions, the course would be a good value, as it was crowded with regulars.
Greens are lacking
First time playing this course this season and the greens lacking. Played here several times before the last couple of years, but this time around the greens were rough. Patches of sand on them and the ball never really ran smooth. The fairways and bunkers were tip-top shape though.
What's up with the greens
Another course with bad greens. First Morris Williams now Legacy. I also heard White Wing had temp. greens. Many bare spots and bumpy. Otherwise fairways were great. Glad I didn't pay full price.
The greens are TERRIBLE!!!
I've played Legacy Hills many times, though prior to yesterday it had been a couple of years since I'd last played there. In the past, it had always been well-maintained, and it's a fun and reasonably easy layout.
Right now though, the greens are as bad as any I've ever played - just really terrible; it would only be a slight exaggeration to compare them to my driveway. I wish I'd thought to snap some photos.
I've been playing golf for 30 years and I understand that nearly every course will have some issues with course conditions from time to time - there are too many variables that are beyond the control of the course maintenance staff.
So I'm not annoyed that the greens were an absolute disaster; what irritated me is that the course makes no effort to inform you that the greens are a disaster. When your greens are this bad, you need to tell people, when they call to make their tee time, that your greens are in bad shape, and then let them decide if they want to waste a lot of time and money to come out and play an enormously disappointing round of golf on your bald, bumpy, rock-hard greens.
There are plenty of better-maintained courses in the area - if you're thinking of playing Legacy Hills right now, DON'T. Wait until they get their greens fixed (don't hold your breath though - in this climate, greens are often at their best right around now; if their greens are this bad in late April they might very well be a disaster for the rest of the summer).
So, so, so disappointed.
Fun trek
Other than the greens were over sanded, this course has a nice layout. Not too punishing for a bad shot but rewarding for a good shot... Like it so much we have already gone back...
Great Course!
Very satisfied with my experiences playing Legacy Hills. Although about half the greens are sanded, course conditions are near pristine for this time of year. Staff is very friendly and willing to stay past normal hours and into the night to ensure you can finish your round. On that note, pace of play can sometimes be an issue, however, that is the case with our game nowadays. The downfalls to this course include no chipping area and no food or beverage sales on site.
Nice course but
This course was well kept but the staff was poor. From the check-in to the non-existent marshal. I felt from the beginning in the clubhouse that I was an outsider and not really welcome. This feeling was magnified when I got out on the course following a group of "Residents". They were purposely slow and the group I was with had to wait on every shot. They had holes open ahead of them several times but we never saw a marshal all afternoon. We started play 15 minutes late as the group ahead was late and then with the slow play we did not finish by dark 4 hours and 25 minutes and only played 17 holes. This is not the first time this has happened to me at Sun City course. I was told once by a marshal that the group ahead of me would not let my twosome play through because they knew we were not members because of the rental cart. Most residents have their own carts and therefore know the guests use rental carts. If they do not want guests then you should take them off of Golf Now. Otherwise treat guests as you would any other golfer., with proper golf etiquette.
Good retirement atmosphere
I liked the layout of the course. It is winter so it was tough to rate the condition. I was a single that got paired with another couple. They were very helpful and friendly
Good Varities
Excellent subdivision course with reasonably generous fairways. Good variety of hilly features, turns, and convulated greens.
Legacy Hills in Winter
Greens need a ton of work, lots of what should be ground under repair dead splotches on all greens. The first tee requires a spot on exact pinpoint drive to get between trees. Don't forget they DON"T SELL BEER HERE. Stop and bring your own before unloading. The practice area was in good shape even though you are required to hit off astro-turf.
Slower than normal, but course in nice shape
Had an 11:08 tee time Saturday. Arrived at #1 on time only to find 3 groups still waiting to go out in front of us. Finally teed off at 11:35. Front 9 took 2 1/2 hours, but pace picked up on back and we finished just over 4 1/2 hours total (though nearly 5 hours after we were supposed to tee off).
Marshal said they were surprised that the 8:30 tourney they had played so slow, but I think we all know that tourneys play slow! Just need to do a better job of managing the tourney pace and not booking additional tee times too close after that you can't keep.
I just LOVE this course!
I love everything about this course, including the course conditions, the greens are well maintained, the staff sees to it that the pace of play moves along, and the nature trails are amazing throughout the course.
Best in Sun City
This course challenges all part of your game. Some holes you have to bomb it. some you have to play to position, and the par 3's are all strong. The rough around the greens is penal, to the point of practically losing balls just a few feet from the green.
The rate for fees, cart and range balls is tough to beat.
And being able to bring your own food, etc is nice too.
Great layout with good mixture of holes!
Loved playing the course. Great mixture of holes as related to degree of difficulty.
A good course but, the greens need to heal before I would play it again.
I generally like the course layout. The back nine is long from the back tees. All the par 4's except number 17 are over 400 yards long from both the Gold and Black tees. The course was designed by Billy Casper and the placement of the fairway bunkers are located close to overhanging limbs making it difficult to advance the ball towards the green on several holes if you are in the sand. The greens are not extremely contoured but were in poor shape due to a verticutting process that went bad. I would wait until the greens have time to heal before playing the course again.
Good Value and fast pace of play
Friday afternoon tee time, we were done in 3 1/2 hours so no problem with pace. Course was in very good condition considering the relentless drought. However, several greens had been damaged by some sort of mechanical equipment and were not playable where damaged. Overall a good golf experience with better than average course conditions for the area
