Challenging
Phenomenal Conditions. Very much enjoyed this round. Andy and staff spot on. Electric carts have gps, cooler, ball and club cleaner. Very challenging Highend experience
Beautiful Course & Scenery, But....
Maryland National is a wonderful course with beautiful scenery and great amenities. It's been a while since I've played it, and the Eagles Nest snack bar is a nice addition on the turn (vs. having to go inside to the restaurant). You need to take your patience on this course because every hole is different and has different challenges, especially the uneven lies, strategically placed bunkers, and mounding that can help or hurt you. The only reason I did not give the course a 5 Star rating is because the pace of play was awful--and I never saw a marshal. It was almost 5 hours and the foursome in front of us had a hole open in front of them for almost the entire back 9...and why they were playing from the tips is beyond me! They were every pace but the fairway! It makes the round miserable for paying customers behind them. For a high-end course, Maryland National needs to marshal and ensure a positive experience for all their customers. Beyond that, the course was wet from all the overnight rain (and cart path only), but it was in great shape, playable, and lush and green.
Best course in DMV
I have played courses everywhere around PA, DE, VI, NC, MD and no course comes close to this one. In my opinion the layout is perfect. The condition of the course is excellent. Beautiful scenery, high end clubhouse/ amenities. The 19th hole (shroyers Tavern) was excellent. As a hole the clubhouse staff was very nice Chris in the pro shop was a huge help. I’ve played Worthington Manor. Whiskey Creek, and Musket ridge their staff doesn’t come close to Maryland National staff. Also those courses weren’t close to the condition Maryland National is. I will say this is the best course I’ve been to anywhere. It is worth the drive.
Course costs
Maryland National Is a high end club with granite bathroom counters and very well trained personnel and was able to play for $27. Richland Golf Club which is also in Middletown MD is not so high end golf club and the Hot Deals there are over $37. They are very near my home and convenient to go there, can you bring those costs down?
Great value
Got the hot rate for $45 or so. Course was in great shape and the pace of play on the front 9 was excellent. Got a little backed up at the turn but not too bad. Nice practice facility. The bunkers were a little soggy from the previous day’s heavy rain. Challenging and lots of uneven lies but a very fun course.
MD National
Great course and layout. Very fun and a must play. Worth the drive from Baltimore
Hot and Humid
Rain for three holes , hot and humid. lightning ended round after the 16th. Players in front teeing from the championship tees. Why? Did see a champion in the group? They must have had a tough day , and costly all those balls lost. LOL Shot 85 with two doubles and counting one over on holes not played.
Surprised
Very slow even for cart path only. Group in front hit from the tips and never hit a green in regulation. Had my cigar and just set back and enjoyed a day in the sun.
Great course
Course was in great shape. Holes were challenging and fun to play. Highly recommmed giving it a shot.
Disappointed
After looking forward to finally playing this course. We arrived to find out that it was cart path only. We can appreciate that courses need to have cart path only sometimes after much rain. The course indicated that they had received 11 inches of rain in the past week. We had been playing in the area since Saturday and had played at courses were we could see that carts on the path was necessary. After being informed that they had fairways that couldn't be cut due to very wet conditions. We didn't see one fairway that hadn't been cut. We walked a lot. Not one time while walking in the fairway or in the rough did we see any dampness around our feet. Our shoes were dry at the end of the round. The restaurant had great food with great service. There was a good practice area. I didn't love the layout, but the visual surroundings were wonderful.
This course has great variety from hills to flat holes with dog legs both ways.
Driving range balls included. Only got slowed down on last three holes but I was a single. Really enjoyed the round. Course was in great shape. Excellent, clear signage.
Conditions of greens
Those course conditions were great on the fairways. The tee boxes were pretty beat up and had just been sanded. The greens also appeared to be recently sanded and were also pretty beat up.
It is still a great layout and I will play there again.
Best Day Ever
We lucked out today. For a weekend, the parking lot was "empty" when we got there. Maybe because the forecast was for rain sometime throughout the day, so it was cloudy and temps in the 70's. Perfect conditions. Yeah, the drizzle caught up to us, tops 10 minutes. No one was in front of us and no one behind us - the other pair of our foursome asked to play by themselves. Except for carts 90*, the course was stellar. As we were playing, my partner and I talked about tee-to-green's and couldn't think of a bad hole. Great shape for first weekend in May. One knock though, the grill wasn't open because of a wedding reception later in the day. Bottom line, its worth the trip.
Always a good experience
Have played here twice in Spring & twice in Fall over the past 15 yrs. Good every time. Nice weather & still not terribly crowded. Range balls included, making the price very reasonable for a Top 10 Maryland course. Whenever a tee time is available for under $35 ..... jump on it!
One of my favorite venues, never disappoints.
Played in less than 4 hours, on a beautiful Spring day. Course is tough, but fair, many different types of holes , all 18 are different. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Compares favorably with other courses nearby that are pricier. All in all, a very good course.
