Disappointed

After looking forward to finally playing this course. We arrived to find out that it was cart path only. We can appreciate that courses need to have cart path only sometimes after much rain. The course indicated that they had received 11 inches of rain in the past week. We had been playing in the area since Saturday and had played at courses were we could see that carts on the path was necessary. After being informed that they had fairways that couldn't be cut due to very wet conditions. We didn't see one fairway that hadn't been cut. We walked a lot. Not one time while walking in the fairway or in the rough did we see any dampness around our feet. Our shoes were dry at the end of the round. The restaurant had great food with great service. There was a good practice area. I didn't love the layout, but the visual surroundings were wonderful.

This course has great variety from hills to flat holes with dog legs both ways.

Driving range balls included. Only got slowed down on last three holes but I was a single. Really enjoyed the round. Course was in great shape. Excellent, clear signage.

Conditions of greens

Those course conditions were great on the fairways. The tee boxes were pretty beat up and had just been sanded. The greens also appeared to be recently sanded and were also pretty beat up.

It is still a great layout and I will play there again.

Best Day Ever

We lucked out today. For a weekend, the parking lot was "empty" when we got there. Maybe because the forecast was for rain sometime throughout the day, so it was cloudy and temps in the 70's. Perfect conditions. Yeah, the drizzle caught up to us, tops 10 minutes. No one was in front of us and no one behind us - the other pair of our foursome asked to play by themselves. Except for carts 90*, the course was stellar. As we were playing, my partner and I talked about tee-to-green's and couldn't think of a bad hole. Great shape for first weekend in May. One knock though, the grill wasn't open because of a wedding reception later in the day. Bottom line, its worth the trip.

Always a good experience

Have played here twice in Spring & twice in Fall over the past 15 yrs. Good every time. Nice weather & still not terribly crowded. Range balls included, making the price very reasonable for a Top 10 Maryland course. Whenever a tee time is available for under $35 ..... jump on it!

One of my favorite venues, never disappoints.

Played in less than 4 hours, on a beautiful Spring day. Course is tough, but fair, many different types of holes , all 18 are different. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Compares favorably with other courses nearby that are pricier. All in all, a very good course.

Breatiful course

Played this course as the weather in PA was not great in early April 2018. For that time of the year the course was in unbelievable shape. Greens rolled a bit too nicely that it took some getting used to. Layout is very fun and has lots of variety. While driver may seem like a good option on certain tees given the distance to the pin, you may regret pulling out the big stick. Food was great and staff was even better. Will definetly add this course to our yearly Easter golf trip.

Exceptional Conditions And A Great Layout

This time of year, golfers don’t expect prime course conditions but Maryland National is making me rethink what’s possible. I’ve always thought the conditions were good here but when compared to clubs costing just as much or more over a hundred miles south that haven’t had as much snow or freezing temps, it’s even more impressive!

The fairways are completely filled in and the greens are immaculate. Both are mowed close and smooth and really gives the whole course a luxurious feel to it. Bunkers are blemish free, though some tee boxes showed a lot of wear during my round. Still, putts roll silky smooth and true, you’ll feel like a pro when you roll in your first 17-footer.

I really love the layout here with so much variety on a property you wouldn’t expect a lot of variance from. Indeed, you can see quite a bit of the course from the elevated clubhouse and it all looks kind of the same there. But Arthur Hills did a great job with utilizing the land to the max and creating beautiful and thoughtful holes. My favorite is the 11th (pictured) because it’s one of the few blind shots to the green if you play it safe on your tee shot to the left side of the fairway. Somehow I always end up on the hillside and somehow still make par on the hole.

The facilities here are very good (food is good but pricey) and the staff is friendly and helpful as well. My only gripe is a common one in this area: if you get behind the wrong group, you’re in for a long round and so far it doesn’t look like they have a marshall on the course other than the text on the built-in GPS screens in the carts telling you if you are keeping up with the calculated pace.

For as good as the course conditions are, a greens fee under $70 is a good value and you can often find them for close to half that which makes Maryland National the only MD course worth the 2+ hour drive from my home in Virginia. Looking forward to being back up here again!

Best kept course anywhere close to Hagerstown.

Played here a few times now, the past couple of years. The course is always in amazing shape, from the tee to green. Greens are fast but I make a lot more 10-15' putts here than anywhere else. Driving range included with your round. GPS in cars is a huge help! Staff and food is always great. Played here for $37. That is an amazing deal....especially considering all of the other (less maintained) courses in the area are more expensive. Price will go up but you can usually find good deals on GolfNow. I highly recommend this course.

It had been a while

Looking back at my score history, it had been 10 years since playing Maryland National. I'm not sure why I waited so long. Fabulous course. Great condition. Almost perfect weather (could have done without the 15-20 mph wind). Only negative was the cart kept crapping out on us. We had to change it out after 9 when it wouldn't even climb the hill to make the turn. That won't keep me from waiting another 10 years though.

Great as always!

If the course was closer to home, I would buy a membership and play it again and again and..again. This challenges you but without any “cutesy” tricks. I was playing my 2nd 18 of the day and I hit a wall on the 17 which prevented me from scoring low. All good though, still a great experience. Definitely recommend to all in the DMV area. Oh, and I recommend the chicken salad sandwich, it had a little kick to it. :)

First Time Playing

This was my first time playing and enjoyed the course very much.

The course was in very good shape, especially considering the continuing cold weather.

I had contact with both the Golf Pro Shop attendant and a course landscaper and both very personable and helpful.

I am a high handicapper and found the course challenging but fair. Loved the layout. Very interesting and enjoyable course.
