A must play.
My wife and I headed away from the Canadian cold for a few days and played this great course. It was in terrific shape. Greens fast and true. We will be back
Breatiful course
Played this course as the weather in PA was not great in early April 2018. For that time of the year the course was in unbelievable shape. Greens rolled a bit too nicely that it took some getting used to. Layout is very fun and has lots of variety. While driver may seem like a good option on certain tees given the distance to the pin, you may regret pulling out the big stick. Food was great and staff was even better. Will definetly add this course to our yearly Easter golf trip.
Exceptional Conditions And A Great Layout
This time of year, golfers don’t expect prime course conditions but Maryland National is making me rethink what’s possible. I’ve always thought the conditions were good here but when compared to clubs costing just as much or more over a hundred miles south that haven’t had as much snow or freezing temps, it’s even more impressive!
The fairways are completely filled in and the greens are immaculate. Both are mowed close and smooth and really gives the whole course a luxurious feel to it. Bunkers are blemish free, though some tee boxes showed a lot of wear during my round. Still, putts roll silky smooth and true, you’ll feel like a pro when you roll in your first 17-footer.
I really love the layout here with so much variety on a property you wouldn’t expect a lot of variance from. Indeed, you can see quite a bit of the course from the elevated clubhouse and it all looks kind of the same there. But Arthur Hills did a great job with utilizing the land to the max and creating beautiful and thoughtful holes. My favorite is the 11th (pictured) because it’s one of the few blind shots to the green if you play it safe on your tee shot to the left side of the fairway. Somehow I always end up on the hillside and somehow still make par on the hole.
The facilities here are very good (food is good but pricey) and the staff is friendly and helpful as well. My only gripe is a common one in this area: if you get behind the wrong group, you’re in for a long round and so far it doesn’t look like they have a marshall on the course other than the text on the built-in GPS screens in the carts telling you if you are keeping up with the calculated pace.
For as good as the course conditions are, a greens fee under $70 is a good value and you can often find them for close to half that which makes Maryland National the only MD course worth the 2+ hour drive from my home in Virginia. Looking forward to being back up here again!

Best kept course anywhere close to Hagerstown.
Played here a few times now, the past couple of years. The course is always in amazing shape, from the tee to green. Greens are fast but I make a lot more 10-15' putts here than anywhere else. Driving range included with your round. GPS in cars is a huge help! Staff and food is always great. Played here for $37. That is an amazing deal....especially considering all of the other (less maintained) courses in the area are more expensive. Price will go up but you can usually find good deals on GolfNow. I highly recommend this course.
It had been a while
Looking back at my score history, it had been 10 years since playing Maryland National. I'm not sure why I waited so long. Fabulous course. Great condition. Almost perfect weather (could have done without the 15-20 mph wind). Only negative was the cart kept crapping out on us. We had to change it out after 9 when it wouldn't even climb the hill to make the turn. That won't keep me from waiting another 10 years though.
Great as always!
If the course was closer to home, I would buy a membership and play it again and again and..again. This challenges you but without any “cutesy” tricks. I was playing my 2nd 18 of the day and I hit a wall on the 17 which prevented me from scoring low. All good though, still a great experience. Definitely recommend to all in the DMV area. Oh, and I recommend the chicken salad sandwich, it had a little kick to it. :)
Great layout and condition.
Had a great time it was a little bit cool but that's not the courses fault everything went great
First Time Playing
This was my first time playing and enjoyed the course very much.
The course was in very good shape, especially considering the continuing cold weather.
I had contact with both the Golf Pro Shop attendant and a course landscaper and both very personable and helpful.
I am a high handicapper and found the course challenging but fair. Loved the layout. Very interesting and enjoyable course.
Comparatively challenging with beautiful surroundings.
Very nice course with nice surrounding and with excellent maintenance. Every hole is uniquely challenging...
Well maintained
The course was in great shape for so early in the season… job well done to the staff
Windy
Round was fine , cart was loosing its charge around hole 15 . Had to get off and walk last couple of hills.
Great Track
It’s hard to write a review when the weather was below 35 the first nine holes, but this course is always fun to play. The greens are always in good shape and course is well manicured.
Great course - excellent conditions for winter
The course was in very good shape for February. It's a tremendous layout & many holes require a risk/reward decision. There are some holes where local knowledge really matters (e.g., it's safest/easiest to use your 135yd club twice on #16), but the GPS system can really help. There are some beautiful vistas (take your time at the #11 tee box), and their 19th hole is a good one - some good beers on tap and friendly service.
Weekday golf
Weather was good till 17th hole then down pour course was in good shape for the time of year had the entire place to our group and had a blast for my buddy's birthday look forward to going back soon staff was great shot a decent round 78 found a ton of balls
Many ups and downs
After playing the first 5 holes, I was wondering if this course was one of those hidden gems that was grossly underrated. And that's even with having a perpendicular cart path on the second and fifth holes. After that, the course starts to deteriorate. The 6th hole is not good, 7 is a very average par 5, 8 is a completely unmemorable par 4, then 9 and 10 are unmitigated disasters. Holes 11-13 are all very good. 14 is a terrible par 3. 15 is an above average par 5. 16 is a par 4 that's indescribably bad...it's probably the worst hole I've ever played (and that's counting the holes on a par 3 course with Astro-Turf greens beside a landfill). 17 and 18 close out the round with two more bad holes. All in all, the course has 9 holes that are really good, as good as any I've played in Maryland...then it has 9 holes that are terrible. For $45 or whatever I paid it's not a ripoff by any means. It's just not a great course.
Great course
Friendly staff. The course is always in great condition.
Winter play is cart path only.
It’s always a pleasure to play here.
This course was very enjoyable
We had a great time playing this course in spite of a frost delay. The pro shop staff was great and the course was in great shape . We look forward to returning again.
