The Tattersall Youth Development Center at The First Tee Chesterfield Golf Course
About
The Tattersall Youth Development Center at The First Tee Chesterfield Golf Course, as well as the First Tee of Richmond, was established to provide educational golf programs for junior players. This comprehensive learning facility includes an 18-hole golf course, a three-hole practice loop, a large grass practice tee, a putting green, and a short-game practice area. There's also a staff of qualified coaches and golf instructors that can help you improve your score no matter what your weakness is. As a learning course, it might not be what low handicappers are looking for if they want a challenge, but it's a perfect place for beginners and high handicappers to get some practice with the game. The layout is very forgiving with wide-open fairways that offer plenty of room. The greens are fast and sometimes framed with bunkers. There are several par-3 holes that will give you a chance to work on your short game.

great course for the money
Had some down time after a meeting in the Richmond area and decided to play this course. The course is an excellent course to practice on. They had several practice par 3's to use. The club house staff was not very friendly. As a matter of fact it took some time for the front desk person to come out to the register. The marshals were great especially "Bill" who gave me some insight on the course itself. Not a very long course, but definitely a good play for your short game. I used golf now and paid $12.00 dollars for 18 holes. So it was absolutely great for me. I would suggest this course for anyone who would like to work on ball placement and movement. Will definitely come back and play again.
Great fun and great memories
I haven't been to the first tee in probably 10 years but I am glad I went back. Played a lot of junior golf there and I have to say the course is much nicer now than I remembered it being then. The greens are very small so even though its a short course, it is still pretty difficult to make birdie. Overall the course was in great shape and the practice facilities are also really nice (I love that they have grass tees on the range and not mats). The staff was amazingly nice and super helpful. I would highly recommend this course to anybody that is new to the game or to anybody looking to have a little fun and have a change from their home course.
good for your money
This is the 2nd time I've played on this course. It is a great course for beginners and has a friendly staff.
Beautiful fairways!
Fun course to play. Nice greens, great fairways and challenging bunkers. Well-maintained course in a pretty setting. Very friendly staff.
Great Short Game Practice
The course is not very long which makes it a great choice if you are trying to work on your short game and or build your confidence. Don't expect valet parking it's not the country club in DC but its a good value, fairly well maintained.
Well maintained, fun course for a quick round.
We were pleasantly surprised at how well the course was maintained. There were a few bare spots around the edge of some greens, but this didn't bother us. Not crowded, also - and we played on a Saturday. Only on 2 holes did we have to wait. Overall, a nice short course that plays quickly and has some fun challenges. Great value - we paid less than $40 for 2 of us to play with carts! We will be back.
Great course for what I paid!
Booked the 12:30 tee time on a Friday.. Before and after tee times were 2x the price. Don't know why. Very nice little course. Fairways, greens & tee boxes were in great shape. Even the time spent at the beach (in sandtraps) was fine. The greens have some action to them. We've had plenty of rain, but even so, this course is well maintained. If you play this course, you know going in that it's short. I have a feeling weekends are crowded. When we were leaving around 4 p.m. it was getting real busy. I'll definately go back.
FIRST FULL ROUND OF GOLF, WAS VERY ENJOYABLE!!
GREAT FOR STARTING OUT BECAUSE SHORT DISTANCES, BUT GREAT FOR LEARNING TO SWING MY CLUBS.
Good Practice Course
Course needs some work, greens have rough areas. Good course for the family, beginners or practice round.
Short Course, Par 66, lots of Par 3's
Good place to play. Needed rental clubs, was not charged for the rentals but I would only rate the clubs as fair. Recommend that you get a cart because there is a lot of hills.
Short course but challenging small greens
Overall this course was in pretty good shape. The greens were little diseased on the fringe but they were working on them. Great course to work on your short game.
Love this place
First Tee is a great, short course for amateurs and beginners. It's very short, with many par 3's, but it is in very good shape for the price. The fringe of the greens was damaged by weedkiller, but other then that I have no complaints about the course.
Perfect Length.
This course is a perfect length for juniors and seniors, especially those that are learning to play golf, or whose skills may be limited by age or injury. From the back tees, it's a good course for anyone to hone his golf skills.
Alwasy been please, but was a little very rushed.
I have played this course many times and have always been happy with my expeirence. This past weekend was a great day for golf so of course it was busy. I feel as if the people that managed booking was clueless to how to do so. We arrived for our 12:30pm Tee time and of course the party of 4 in front of us with a child was taking their time, up to 12:36pm might i add. So by the time we go to begin our round, there is now another group directly behind us waiting for us to go. From holes 1-7 there was three parties on each hole. Not waiting patiently either. Eventually another group started to come up on us which lead to conversations about tee times. Come to find out the group that met us at the 1st green ALSO had a 12:30 Tee Time, the group ahead of us has a 12:15pm time but did not begin their adventure until 12:27pm and to top it all off the last group had a 12:40 Tee time. All I can say was that this was some poor planning. I will continue to frequent this course for however; I would hope in the future that the scheduling is managed better.
Okay for $9 in early April...
Couldn't beat $9 on Golf Now and all I really wanted to do was start up my game in spring. For that it was fine! Yes, it is April, however, the flies were overwhelming, mud everywhere, mostly bare dirt, fencing fallen down, tee boxes 80% dirt, greens were over seeded to a satisfactory condition to use. Served its purpose, hopefully if I return in the late spring early summer it will be in much better condition. Kind of fun to work on your short game, mostly par 3's from 100 to 150 yards, quite a bit of elevation change on some.
Greens in great shape. Fairways still have not greened up. Low key place to play with an extremely friendly staff.
I've always enjoyed playing at The First Tee. It's a short, par 66 , ideal for seniors or short hitters. The greens are in great shape and vary in difficulty from hole to hole. The fairways haven't greened up yet and have a few low, wet spots. The staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Sand traps are in pretty good shape, considering this is a low cost place to play.
Short executive type course. Good for tuning up your short game.
Short but challenging at times. Overall it was enjoyable. Need to have some monitoring the pace of play on the course. A twosome was holding us up the entire round and only because they were routinely taking four and five shots. Needed a marshall on the course to monitor the speed of play and take corrective action.
This course is great!
I love playing there and the staff is great and always helpful.
I really like First Tee.
I really like First Tee. The course is well maintained and the staff is friendly. The fairways are pretty wide but I can still find the trees. The greens are in good shape. It is a disservice to FT to say it is a good value for the money but it is. I prefer my walking rate over a cart but it is a nice ride too.
