About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

My go to
Storms hit this place hard - so it’s not really fair. Wind made first four difficult - imo the best here is the back nine.
Generous Course
I only play this course once a year and it’s a generous course to my handicap with its wide open fairways as compared to some other course in the area.
It’s looks better than last year the greens seems to have gotten rid of the fungus but they were super soft. Some of the tee boxes still need some TLC. The fairways are very bumpy and make sure to book a chiro appointment afterwards. It’s a basic course, decent afternoon price with a cart and if you fade or hook it’s very forgiving.
Golf
Course needs a lot of work. Fairways and greens are in very bad shape. You can loss the your ball in some fairways.
Greens have recovered
Southwick is back to very playable. The top dressing on the greens has grown in and the greens rolled mostly true. 3:30 round at 11:30
Golf in Pearland
Each time I play this course I see more dallisgrass. I bet the course manager is a tree hugger -no chemicals. The greens are trying to repair themselves from the winter still. They were very sandy and a bit slow. The fairways were holding water in spots but I didn't go there. People driving carts need to stay out of those spots. There were plenty of tire tracks. Also, the course needs to be re-sodded. I've been playing off the middle tees more lately, so my scores have been better.
Potential
Course layout was good but the course has been neglected. Fairways weren't mowed and grass was patchy.
Don't do it!
I haven't played this course in a few years, but decided to try it again. Never again! The worst course conditions that I have ever seen on a golf course. Fairways not mown, greens not cut and it horrible condition. Don't even try to line up a putt. Random wet areas due to leaking sprinklers. Just an awful experience.

Good value but lots of room for improvement
Cheap course near my home. Played it many times over the last few years. Greens were quite hairy with thick grass, very bumpy and lot of weed sprouts. I knew to expect incredibly bumpy fairways on the front, better on the back. Not sure if that will ever be fixed. Pace of play was quite slow for a Thursday morning. No rangers so nobody patrolling anything. No water coolers ever is insane for a Houston course. I believe the club was recently acquired so let’s see if the new owner will put money into it or let it deteriorate any further. I play here because it’s close and generally very cheap but a lot of things could make it better for sure.

Wide open spaces
This is a wonderful course with great value. The staff is always friendly and call you by your name. Great place to let the driver go.
