About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

A good choice on a Friday
The best thing about playing Southwyck? The people you meet and the staff. This course identifies with the by your bootstraps clientele of achievers who are down to earth good people. They embraced the challenge of maintaining a course that’s affordable by sodding over bunkers and mowing down to create a hard and fast links style course. Yes the greens are bumpy, challenging to read….but imagine yourself playing a links course in Scotland. This is how golf started, courses like this one. By the way, the grill is a great way to enjoy a break while watching big screen sports with friends. Friendly staff too.

Very Disappointed
Course maintenance is Badly Needed! Use to be a nice place to play and now it’s a Dump! Close a few months and get this back to one of Houston’s Best.

Recent round at southwyk
Got Lucky for a Sunday 11:30 round as never held up by group in front (never even seen them till 17th hole. and group behind us only seen them once on a par 5 when we were on the green and they were on the tee box. Greens were firm and fast but rolled true. some dried out spots but in general pleased with condition. Some wet pots on the fairways after the heavy rains we had a few days beore but that was to be expected. Bar cart was around every 3 or 4 holes. Shot one of my better rounds of the year so value for money in a even more competive market was good.

Southwyck Needs Love
A good layout, but overall poor condition. Needs Maintenance $$. Bumpy Fairways hard to drive in cart. Greens poor condition, bumpy and hard to save pars. Broken water lines on several holes making wet spots on a dry course. Bare spots in multiple fairways. Hopefully the summer will fill it in, because it is a fun course when it's in good condition. Needs to be refurbished.

There are no restrooms on course. There are no golf ball washers and drinkable water. Distance markers are absent. Several cracks in the fairway

Two things lacking.
No water coolers on the course. No bathrooms on the course and it is not convenient to stop at the clubhouse between 9&10.

Awful
This course is hanging on by a thread. You would think with all of the poor reviews they would make some changes. Do not waste your money here.

Fairway and Green need to overhaul asap.

Layout is great and fun to play. Greens had been n very bad but are improving. Staff is obviously working hard to bring them back

Tough but fun
It’s a tough course with plenty of water. Pace of play could have been better, which was surprising given there was 10 mins between tee times. The greens and fairways were in good condition, but the tee boxes were not. They were completely uneven with plenty of dead grass and unfilled divots. Not a single hole had drinking water or ball washers either.
I probably wouldn’t pay the same rate that I did, but I would still come back and play.

Solid course. Tough
There weren’t any ball cleaners or drinking water along the course, and the pace of play was a little tough based on the group ahead of us, but it was a great course overall! I’d play it again
