About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

Great for the price!
Overall, fun course. Super friendly to someone that has a natural draw to the right. Greens are in pretty good shape but fairways are beyond terrible. Never knew which crack or large dip the ball was going to bounce off of.

Overall good course
1sr time to play here, we enjoyed playing, staffs were friendly, overall it is a good course, but interestingly no bunkers appeared throughout the course.
In addition, some aspects can be improved, like no signs to indicate holes in the cart path for the second half holes (easy to get lost), no water fountain available in the course (it was a hot day!).

Used to be good value now it’s just run down
This course has to be one of the worst in Houston. You’re much better off playing at Gus wortham or another municipal course. The starting tee times are not honored. No marshalls pace of play is horrendous. You have gas powered golf carts that can barely run and the fairway is full of overgrown grass and holes. Not to mention the people that golf here drive their carts on the green. It used to be a great course but will not play here again.

One of the worst courses in houston
The course fails at everything that you would want out of a golf course not only is it in bad condition there is no staff supervision to ensure patient felt play The fairways are in terrible shape. The greens are awful.

Needs Maintenance
The fairways need a lot of maintenance. The greens were bumpy yet fast.

Fun Saturday
It was hot, but lots of fun! Pace was great, finished 18 in 3.5 hours. Course was on the dry side which led to lots of roll off the tee.

Fair course
Very friendly staff. There was a 5-some playing in front of us which slowed down our pace significantly. Conditions of the course were ok, a few of patches and dead grass spread out throughout the fairways.

Course is in awful condition. Bumpy and dry which makes you have to drive slow and therefore pace of play is bad. Not worth the money at all.

Fix it up?
I play by best rounds at this course but the course just doesn’t look good lots of weeds across the playing area. Odd not to have traps but I’m not complaining. Also why not offer 9 hole and 18 hole rates?
