About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

course is in great shape
Southwyck is in great shape right now. Had a nice round. Only negatives are no water on the course and the snack bar had closed when I made the turn (before 3pm).
Slowest Round
There was too many single a twosomes sent out after us. It would have been rude not to let them play through. Round lasted six hours.

Christmas Eve Outing
I had passed this course several times with my in laws living in the neighborhood. Decided to give it a go the day before Christmas and ended up in a 5 some. Decent pace of play for a holiday round. Course was in good condition for December. The only draw backs I could mention where the lack of bathrooms on the course and the distance between holes as the course weaves through the neighborhood. I will be playing it again the next time I'm in the area.

Greens are really good
This is my go to course on most fridays when courses near me are either booked up or a bit expensive. Hole number eight drives me nuts. It’s a short par 3 that I find awkward. My favorite is the par 5 14th which has a creek about 110 yards from the green.which is small. The staff is welcoming and the grill makes a great cheeseburger.

Slow pace of play
I’ve played here before and had no issues. But we went out yesterday afternoon and we’re stuck in a long line behind some groups of 5 or 6. Having someone out there to regulate the pace of play would have been nice. We got through 4 holes in an hour and decided to go back a couple of holes and play them again since it was the end of the day.
Other staff were great. Good course. Still planning on coming back.

Great layout; back nine has 3 short but challenging holes
Great layout:
(1) Number 9 par 4 dog leg right around water; playable and challenging
(2) Back nine 14, 15 & 16 are short but challenging holes

The standard markings for distance n hole identifications where missing. That should b there regardless time of the year.

Go to course when others booked
My only double bogey came on the last hole when my third shot approach caught the far left part of the huge green, leaving a three putt. Otherwise I played well. Greens continue the recent trend of being great. Glad they saved money sodding over the bunkers. Sand traps are overrated anyway. Friendly staff, cart girl made frequent checks…I needed the extra ice on an 85 degree day. There was some ground under repair around the 9th tee…gold black and gray were moved up…not complaining. I was able to sink a long putt for par on a hole that normally plays like a par 5 as it bends around a good sized pond. This course rewards those who are successful on risk taking. A fun links style layout. The best part of this course are the people working there and those who I play alongside. A great value.

Course is playable but fairways need work.
Still bumpy as always do drive slow!!! Sand traps are gone, I don’t miss much-even more difficult around greens. Greens are in good shape except for some sandy spots.
