Cracking little course.
A friend & I played here for the first time this morning. We loved it! Really friendly welcome by the chap in the shop. Spoke to a couple of members out on the course who were really friendly and helpful. A couple of par 3s over water, a couple of 90 degree dog legs. Plenty of tee shots to consider what you hit rather than just booming driver. Course was in good nick considering the hot weather & the price was great. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks!
Terrible first cut good luck finding balls
Shame really as it's quite a nice track. Why they haven't bothered maintaining the first cut I don't know. Greens were pretty rubbish as well.. not going back basically
Young chap in club shop was great ,But!, went to what we thought was the 1st tee, which wasn’t?, not very well sign posted in fact some holes are not very well sign posted if you are new to the course, I get the housing estate being built, but more signs needed. Regards the course, aprt from the 18th green , not one green had been cut, it’s June ????, should be cut Friday for the wk end??, I do think 2-3 greens were new grass which I get not cutting , but no excuse for the others?, Course very busy which lead to hold ups ??, couple of benches dotted around some of the tee’s would be a nice addition, especially as it has a hotel on site(small things), and when we went into the bar , they had none of the main beer ?? , bit poor for a wk end, it’s a nice course , but needs a few upgrades, small add ons make a massive difference, “ you need to do better!”
Abbey golf
Greens not the best they have changed the course which I think makes it not as good some par 5 been cut into 2 holes fairways need more attention
Unusual course
Played the abbey hotel course on the 10 th June , last played it 15-20 years ago, course was just in reasonable condition with some greens quite poor in condition and speed on greens not consistent , quirky lay out having to walk past peoples front and back gardens, and the walk from the 12th to the 13th must be the longest between green and tee in the country walking past a building site , fairways ok , quite a bit of water lying around the course, so wet in some areas , thought it was ok for the price I paid, but would not pay much more
Rough
The rough around the greens needs cutting and fairways need cutting and rough just of fairways the course is a good course
Needs work
With relocation of some holes there were some poor greens.. no yardages on gps watch so no idea on yardage.. no yardage stakes to give you an idea of club usage
Nigel
Lovely course, it's a shame the layout has changed from last year. There's a bit of a bike between the 12th and 13th, Could do with 1 or 2 more par 5's. That being said, excellent value for money, I hope the prices don't go up and drive people away. I will definitely be coming back if the prices stay as they are. Hotel looks lush too. Loved it.
Layout recently changed
They’ve recently sold some land for houses and had to change the layout of the course, generally they’ve achieved this by splitting par 5’s into a 4 and 3. Unfortunately both par 3’s that have been created are poor holes. All of the new holes also have yet to bed in, the greens are basically new turf that has been laid which means they’re long, furry and slow, and the tee boxes have no paths around them so you’re walking through knee high rough to get to them. There’s also no distance markers anywhere on the course so you have no idea what distance you’re hitting into the greens, especially since the layout means what any GPS is now utterly useless. There’s a lack of clear signs for which hole you’re on, so be careful not to start on the 12th!
It’s a shame because some of the holes that they haven’t messed around with are still really nice holes but the remodel has ruined it.
Course Not Ready
The new 18 hole layout only opened on 01/05/26 but it clearly isn't ready to play on.
The course didn't look like it had been cut for sometime and at times it was hard to distinguish between what was fairway and what was rough. It was hard to find your ball on some fairways until you were on top of it..
We were told the greens were not in the best of condition, because a new irrigation system had been put in, hence the reduced rate but they were worse than expected.
There were no course maps, no yardage markers, GPS was unavailable as it was a new layout, so it was impossible to get an accurate yardage unless you have a laser rangefinder, which we don't.
The course may be nice in a month's time when all of these problems have been ironed out but for now it should not be open and even a reduced price is not worth it.
On top of this, play was very slow, we walked in after 14 holes, as that had taken nearly 4 hours. But that could be due to the 4 balls in front having difficulty finding their balls on the uncut fairways and rough.
Abit of a mess
Poor greens & rest of course just in a mess. There's crap (sorry but it's the only way I can describe it) at the back of greens, dirt tracks for a trolley path, sand in some bunkers none in others, oh and a nice 5 minute walk I think it's after the 12th to the 13th because they've sold the land off that used to be the 2nd and 3rd. Talk about ruining a course all for money and a few new houses, like there isn't enough new houses going up already. Instead of investing and enhancing the course in my opinion it's ruined even if they manage to clean the course up.
Much improved!
I’ve played a few rounds here and it has always been a slog. Today was much different! Course is back open as 18 holes. The new layout is much more appealing and they’ve done a good job with the new holes. Rough is still long and a bit of a challenge and greens do still have some cracks but this will no doubt be improved over the coming weeks. Great value for money at £25!
6 hour round
Absurd pace of play. Was on pace for at least a 6 hour round
Groups playing with no etiquette or thoughts for others
At one point where behind a group of 7
From th me 2nd hole onwards it’s a free for all and you are at the risk of the golfing gods
Course itself is nice but the pace detracts a lot
Get a buggy it is long
