Good course spoilt by a society and slow greens
5.15hrs to get round owing to extremely slow play by a Golf society (approx 40 in group). Too much time spent looking for lost balls, time over shots and generally arsing about.
Greens were so slow, grass was too fluffy/long, that footprints would affect the line. You could leave a 2ft putt 1ft short.
The actual course is a thinking person's golf course, not always driver off the tee. Bunkers and hazards are well placed. Just ruined by taking 2hrs more than was needed!
Just another course neglected
Poor tees like chunks taken out, poor signage even tees weren't numbered so played one hole then had to go back, really poor greens like grass much too long and more bumps when you putt than a humpback bridge hence no chance of ever putting well, bunkers need more sand and to be properly looked after. Someone said that this place might be up for sale. Let's hope someone buys it and invests in it. It could be a great course as the layouts not bad, it has some testing holes and it runs through and next to nice houses, abit like in America unfortunately it's not looked after like one!!!
Not cared for
Was looking forward to playing this course. Pulled up looked great. Tee boxes heavily used. Fairways lacking grass. Greens worse I’ve played on in years. Dents grass missing. Cracks through the greens. Course has potential but needs a lot to get up to standard and needs caring for. Disappointed would of preferred to spend a little bit more money and play a good course
Fantastic course
We really enjoyed this course, it's set out really well, nice long holes and kept very nicely.
Definitely play again.
Awesome course
An amazing day. Was very impressed with the course! Will be visiting again soon with my dad. From start to finish, I loved every minute!
Average day of golf
Most of the course smelt either of bleach or some sort of waste, constantly having to make sure I didn’t step in duck poo. Greens were inconsistent, not greatly kept, course layout actually wasn’t too bad, got a little mundane after so many par 4s though. Booked on a hot deal for just over £20, wouldn’t have payed any more than that to be honest, would have been unhappy if I’d payed any more than that.
Always enjoy playing here , for the time of year it was in good condition , great terrace and bar on the 18 th
6 hour round
Absurd pace of play. Was on pace for at least a 6 hour round
Groups playing with no etiquette or thoughts for others
At one point where behind a group of 7
From th me 2nd hole onwards it’s a free for all and you are at the risk of the golfing gods
Course itself is nice but the pace detracts a lot
Get a buggy it is long
I'd Ignore The Bad Reviews
I'm not sure what people expect from a well priced course, I think middle aged men possibly have unrealistic expectations. Firstly, food and drinks were with us pre round within minutes, and tasty. The course is well set out, it's 18 holes I think most would really enjoy. I like a 90's course because they're maturing nicely and you don't get the boring up and down holes you tend to get on most older courses, and this has 18 good holes. We had millionaires golf on a Friday morning, so brilliant on that front. There's a range and good putting green to set you up nicely. The greens had obviously had a bit of blight or something, but so have a lot of courses and they were clearly being dealt with very well despite the terrible wet year we've had. Overall a great option at those prices, very happy to drive the almost 2 hours to play there again.
Excellent condition
Played this course on the 24th sep we had terrible rain for a few days prior, I must say the course was in fantastic condition. Fairways was nicely cut and greens was running beautifully the grounds people obviously working hard. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your round at our course on September 24th, especially after the challenging weather.
Our grounds staff works tirelessly to maintain the course, and it's wonderful to know their efforts were recognized. We're glad you found the fairways nicely cut and the greens running beautifully.
Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another round soon!
Get a buggy
Overall this course has brilliant potential, however on the day I played I found the fairways were way too long, the rough was ridiculously long, the greens were fair but some had big divots close the the holes.
If you are considering playing I would strongly recommend getting a buggy as although the yardage of the course is only slightly over average, there are some holes with significant walks between green and next tee
Greens issue
Absolutely loved the challenge of this course. The length was perfect. However, the greens were odd. Every time my ball rolled on them it was like a magnet for these mini mud grains. It was impossible to clean the ball and putter after each attempt. Just meant the greens ran slower.
Overall, I’d return again as was good value for money and hopefully the next time the greens run a bit better 🤗
Plus got admire this beautiful deer 🦌
Slow. Slow, Slow
Reasonable course. Some greens patchy and some tees worn. Pace of play was really slow. Positives fairways ok and local to Redditch.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review of The Abbey Golf Course! We truly appreciate your positive feedback, especially as it highlights the value we strive to offer our guests.
It’s refreshing to hear you recognize the quality of our course and the enjoyable experience we aim to provide, all at affordable green fees. We understand that some visitors may have lofty expectations, but we believe that great golfing doesn't have to come with a hefty price tag.
We're delighted you enjoyed the quick service at our food and drink facilities, and we’re glad to hear you appreciated the layout of our course. It’s great to know that you found the holes engaging and that you had a fantastic time during your Friday morning round.
We are actively working on maintaining our greens, especially given the challenging weather this year, and your understanding of these conditions is greatly appreciated. It’s wonderful to hear you’re willing to make the drive to play with us again, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another enjoyable round.
Thank you once again for your kind words!
