Maybe they should shut the course when the greens freeze?
I played the course on a cold day. I expected that the weather was just warm enough that the greens wouldn't freeze but I was wrong.
I was surprised that I was allowed to go out. When the greens started to thaw they revealed a load of footprints where the grass had been killed and only mud remained.
A bit odd. Par 3s were a real stand out on the course. I imagine this place is a great round in the summer, but there are better places to go in the area.
Great condition for middle of winter!
First time playing the course with my brother on New Years bank holiday. Fabulous condition given the weather that we’ve had. Holes 2 and 5 were closed due to maintenance - no issues. Saw more green keepers tending the course than anywhere else I’ve played.
Driving range, pro shop and putting green also great.
Looking forward to playing again soon and in the summer!
Not bad for the money
Not a bad course shame about the greens very patchy making putting difficult and bunkers needed more sand but apart from that ok for the money
Wet weather
Have played this course many times
However yesterday the conditions weren’t fit to play
The course was far to wet with bunkers full of water. Standing water around most greens and in some really bad areas mini ponds had formed.
The y should have waited a lot longer allowing course to start drying out more or to slow the green keeping staff put sort out the front 9
Ruined a perfectly beautiful day for golf
To busy
This is a challenging course and for £26 would appear excellent value for money. However, the gap between tee-times is too short, so there are far too many people on the course, leading to very slow rounds (ours took over 5 hours, ridiculous).
The price point attracts too many hackers, for whom the course is miles to difficult. We were following two blokes in a buggy, who failed to get the ball more than 50 yards off the tee on numerous occasions but would not let us through.
Decent
Nice course. Played the last few holes with some friendly locals. A few quirky holes to make you think, with a few up and down in the middle. Signage could be better for the first and transitions between the estate and course.
The course it’s self is nice but the bunkers where like concrete almost Unpliable the greens where a little boggy in places
Wouldn’t rush back to play here there’s better courses around the Area for nearly half the price and there should be a discount for County club card holders even though they’re on the list of clubs that are supposed to give discounts they don’t and even seem unaware that there on the list.
Nice course, shame about the pace
I enjoyed the parkland course, it’s well kept and in a nice setting, unfortunately we were waiting on every shot for the entire round which was a bit annoying.
Enjoyable Course
Really enjoyed the course and will definitely play again. Only criticism was, that as first time players, the signage between green to next tee is poor to non existent.
We will know for next time but there were several times we were unsure where the next tee was. Wouldn’t take much sorting out!!
Abbey Golf
Whilst rhe course itself was in fairly good condition, it needed a good sprinkling as greens very dry and hard. But the worst part were the bunkers, barely any level of sand made it almost impossible to play out of the green side bunkers disappointing given its the easiest thing to maintain.
00000
Never in all my years of playing golf 45 years,,have l ever been held up by a five ball absolutely disgraceful, people need to know the rules before they play any sport, even when a member of staff came out to the 17th hole he did nothing to the people playing as,a 5 ball,,
The Abbey is a tree lined parkland course with plenty of undulating fairways but easy walking all the same.
Lots of interesting holes, nice par 3's and decent greens.
The only area the course should be improved on is the tee boxes, which are not befitting of a decent track.
Good off course facilities.
Scruffy
If you haven't played here before the directions are a bit rubbish, the tee numbers are a little postage stamps, Plus there is no way on earth this is a championship course, the fairways are scruffy, do they own a mower,
Had to ask 2 people for directions to the first tee,
Not worth the money they charge, and the buggys are a rip off.and the pro shop is rubbish
All in All very poor. Needs some money spending on it, alot.
Worse than a municipal
Terrible condition. Questionable whether they have any green keepers at all. Very busy and extremely slow play on the back nine. Little to no signage to know where the next tee is throughout the whole course. Seemed like a low class of golfers to, a hackers course. The clubhouse is tatty and run down. Needs some serious investment.
