Excellent condition

A fantastic day at Aldwark Manor on Monday. On checking in we were expected & warmly welcomed, as this was our 1st time there the course layout was explained.

The course itself is in excellent condition, receptive greens & well maintained fairways & bunkers(I only experienced 1 or 2!!), with some really interesting holes, 14 in particular.

One of my favourites of this year so far.

Not all that great

The hotel looks fabulous, but the course was disappointing. I know it's been a dry summer but I don't this has seen water since 1976. Quite a few nothing holes and then you get to the 14th. Driver over the river to a fairway you can't see and I couldn't see a pole to give me a line either so I bypassed it. I might have missed the marker pole but it certainly didn't stand out to my old eyes. I played it because I am moving to the area and was considering joining, but I will be looking elsewhere. Pity because the spa might have helped me convinced my wife it was a good decision

Beautiful scenery, newly refurbished course

I played Aldwark Manor a few years ago and it was immediately obvious that there has been some work done. The course plays from the new clubhouse with an interesting par 3, then you cross the road to the older part of the course for a second par 3. From there the course is a real mix of long par 4’s, reachable par 5’s all set in beautiful countryside with the river running through it. There are plenty of hazard for the wayward tee shots to find and a mix of very narrow fairways to some very open ones.

The course has been thought through well with some carefully placed bunkers to challenge golfers of all ability. Crossing back over the road the course feels new again with some newly landscaped holes. A short par 3 17 offers a good chance for a birdie, followed by a challenging par 4 18th with a massive bunker to navigate.

All in all it’s a great course, set in the most beautiful part of Yorkshire but it comes at a price. Nearly £50 a round is, in my opinion, top tier pricing for a pay to play course. There are others close by that offer better value.

Terrible waste of money

First time and last time playing at Aldwark.

All I can say it was the worst course I have ever played, like playing in a field. Slow play all the way round, so ended up walking off after the 13th hole. The course layout was terrible and the back holes might as well be fields. No imagination whatsoever.

The biggest waste of £40 I have ever spent on a golf round.

I have never not enjoyed playing around as much as here, and I was playing well, just thought the course was rubbish.

Quietly maturing course.

Played this course quite a few times and love it every time I play despite the fact it’s still a new maturing course. A mixture of fairly straight forward holes and some very challenging ones.

Positives;

1) Excellent course lay out.

2) Beautiful countryside lay out

3)Very interesting, varied holes

4) A number of very challenging holes

5) Rough kept under control well

Like all maturing golf courses, time will be needed to develop its condition. Overall, a very enjoyable challenge in beautiful countryside surroundings. The par 5 14th over the river is an absolute gem and par is a good achievement.

Good course, testing in parts, nice layout, conditions during the drought made difficult, interesting start with 3 par 3’s in the first 5 holes, ideally spread more apart.

The challenge of water

A beautiful, peaceful course with stunning scenery and a real feel good factor. Some challenging holes next to & over water which were a surprise as we had not played there before so a few balls went in there !

Some interesting holes that needed tactical play so will remember that for when we play again .

A nice drink in the sports bar on return , we had the course practically to ourselves, so no rush , a lovely day out .

Lots of works and a strange layout

I played Aldwark several times in the past with the previous course layout and I preferred it to the new course. If the 17th is anything to go by, then is a bang average course and although I enjoyed it over the river for the majority, it is spoiled by the amounts of works going on currently. I look forward to returning once the works are complete, although I get a sense they will begin to over charge at that point. It has an air of Rudding Park about it. Overall, average course, well maintained and great greens, relatively challenging holes, with a few poorly laid out holes. 3-4 stars.
